Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 440: If You Lay A Hand On Her, I’ll Kill You
CHAPTER 440: CHAPTER 440: IF YOU LAY A HAND ON HER, I’LL KILL YOU
Chantelle looked into the rear-view mirror. There was indeed an Audi behind them. Then she noticed something else. Four identical Audis were following them.
Each Audi moved into position and blocked them from the front, the back, and both sides. Their car was completely surrounded.
Chantelle signaled Jacob to make several turns, but it tightly tailed behind them. When Jacob tried to ram one of the Audis, it swerved away and crashed into a flower bed instead.
It looked more like they were protecting them than trying to hurt them.
"Ms. Chantelle, there’s a sharp curve ahead. I can speed up and shake them off," Jacob said, adrenaline rushing.
This road was the route from the suburbs back to the city. If Jacob sped up too quickly on that sharp turn, some of the Audis could go straight off the cliff.
"It’s alright. They’re not here to harm us," Chantelle said, stopping him.
Jacob was confused, but he still pulled over as she instructed.
Just as Chantelle expected, all the cars stopped at the same time. No one got out. They waited patiently.
Chantelle opened the car door, planning to talk to them.
Jacob got out too, nervous and alert. He was holding a small weapon Kane had given him. It was a small, finger-sized crossbow that could shoot a sharp dart with a single click.
The arrow was small, but it was deadly. One shot to the throat would penetrate directly.
The moment the men from the four Audis saw Chantelle step out, they all got out of their cars. They lined up neatly and called out in unison, "Hello, Mrs. Wilson!"
I knew it. They were Daniel’s men.
Chantelle turned around angrily and got back into the car, telling Jacob to drive.
Jacob snapped back to reality and stepped hard on the accelerator.
At the same time, in Rose Castle, Joseph stood weakly in front of the window. The room was dark, and he hadn’t turned on the lights. A figure walked up behind him.
The person said in a hoarse voice, "You’re still sick. Don’t stand by the window. You’ll catch a cold."
The person’s tone was gentle and caring.
Joseph let out a cold smile. He turned and looked at the person behind him with an expression full of sarcasm.
"Aren’t you the one controlling my health now?"
He couldn’t see the person clearly, yet that piercing stare was fixed on him.
"If you hadn’t been so indecisive, why would I have to do this?" the person replied. "You should know this by now. Anyone in this world could harm you. I am the only one who treats you without conditions."
The man’s voice rose, and Joseph could feel his breath on his face.
He stepped back in disgust to put some space between them and scoffed, "Don’t use me as an excuse for whatever you’re planning."
"You! Your mind is being controlled by that bitch! If you can’t tell who’s truly on your side, I’ll just capture Chantelle for you immediately!"
"If you lay a hand on her, I’ll kill you," Joseph said in a voice filled with rage.
At that moment, he didn’t know if he was protecting Chantelle because of their previous relationship, or if he simply refused to obey the man standing in front of him.
"Okay, fine! Now you’re even bold enough to talk to me like this because of her. What’s next? Are you going to fight me for her, too?"
Joseph regained his composure. "I’ll get you what you want. But Chantelle is useful. Getting rid of her won’t benefit you."
The man in the dark let out a cold snort, clearly not convinced.
Joseph didn’t explain further. He simply reminded him, "Fred isn’t loyal to you. Everything he’s done was for his own gain. If something happens one day, he’ll be the one to kill you."
"I know that myself. You don’t need to worry about me."
Joseph rolled his eyes in the dark and didn’t bother replying. The man let out a sigh and left.
The next morning, while Chantelle was sending her three children to school, she saw the news about what had happened at Rose Castle.
The report didn’t mention Rose Castle. It only said that a deranged human trafficker had attempted to sell over a dozen women to a remote mountain area.
The news spread quickly online, and everyone was furious, cursing the human trafficker.
Not long after the incident, a video began circulating online showing the victims giving a pennant to the police to thank them. People started praising the police and soon forgot about the human trafficker.
But some people questioned the traffickers’ real intentions. They found out that most of the victims came from well-known universities, and they were all above-average in appearance.
It didn’t make sense that the traffickers would sell them to some remote mountain. Traffickers usually aim for the highest profit. The situation felt suspicious to them.
Before long, public attention shifted to the ghost story connected to the case. Someone uploaded a video of Chantelle hanging the fake Daniel from the ceiling.
Some of the victims even confirmed that a ghost had appeared, claiming that it was the reason the traffickers failed to harm them.
The supernatural video caught everyone’s attention, so no one continued questioning the traffickers’ intentions.
Chantelle let out a cold snort. She originally planned to have Jacob upload the footage from Rose Castle that night, but the driver said, "Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Wilson said he will take care of it. Please don’t worry."
"I don’t need his help." Chantelle frowned. She was annoyed that Daniel had sent people to protect her, and now he wanted to handle the situation too. That was unacceptable.
Chantelle then quickly dialed a number, and once it connected, she asked, "Did you organize the materials from last night? Release them one by one according to what I told you."
"Ms. Chantelle, you should check the news online now. It looks like we don’t need to do anything anymore."
Chantelle ended the call and went online. She saw that Daniel had already made Joseph expose Fred’s crimes, and he had taken down everyone involved in the incident.
He had collected solid evidence, so the police could arrest all of them without needing to investigate further.
With that amount of proof, the authorities acted immediately. Fred’s group was almost completely wiped out.
