Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 465: Daddy, Stop Looking Grumpy!
CHAPTER 465: CHAPTER 465: DADDY, STOP LOOKING GRUMPY!
"She was with a young man. They went to the pharmacy across the street. She didn’t seem well, so he escorted her. They seemed like just friends. Nothing intimate about it," the server added quickly when he noticed Daniel’s expression darken.
Daniel walked out of the cafeteria immediately and headed toward the pharmacy, looking like he was ready to tear someone apart.
"Daddy, stop looking so grumpy! How are you going to find Mommy like that?" Steph said, using her tiny fingers to lift the corners of Daniel’s mouth into a forced smile.
"Hurry up! Let’s go see Mommy!" Kane urged them.
"I saw a wound on Mommy’s back when she was getting dressed this morning. Do you think it might have opened again?" Railer guessed as they rushed down the hallway.
When they reached Old Mr. Nelsen’s ward, Kane saw Chantelle sitting in a chair with her face completely pale.
"Mommy!" he cried as he ran into her arms. "Are you alright?"
Chantelle had just gotten her period, and the cramps were causing her intense pain. Alexander had taken her to the pharmacy to buy painkillers, but nothing seemed to help.
"Hey, why are you all here? Have you eaten?" Chantelle asked weakly. She talked to Kane, but her eyes were on Daniel. She was a little upset that he had taken the kids away instead of handling the engagement party. It was already late in the afternoon, and growing children should not be skipping meals.
"We already ate, Mommy. We brought some food for you, too," Railer said. He took the paper bag Daniel was holding and placed it beside her.
Chantelle shook her head softly. "I don’t feel like eating right now. Why don’t you all go home with Daddy first?"
"What are you doing here?" Daniel asked. It hurt him to see her this way. He wanted to hold her and comfort her, but he knew she was keeping her distance.
If he tried to force anything, it would only make things worse. He still remembered clearly what she had said to him during the car accident last night. He had promised himself he would never make decisions for her again without asking her first.
"Something came up," Chantelle answered shortly. She did not really understand the situation herself, but the three Nelsen siblings had asked her to stay and discuss something with Old Mr. Nelsen. She could not refuse them. And honestly, she was also worried about the old man’s condition.
Daniel’s eyes darkened for a moment, and Chantelle thought he was going to make a scene and carry her away again. But instead, he simply sat beside her without saying a word. He opened the food container, scooped up a spoonful of soup, and held it to her lips.
Chantelle wanted to say she had no appetite, but her mouth opened instinctively. The hot, savory soup warmed her stomach.
After feeding her that first spoonful, Daniel realized he might be pushing her again. He looked at her carefully to see how she felt. He felt relieved when he noticed her showing interest in the soup. Overjoyed, he offered her another spoonful.
Chantelle was enjoying the soup when she suddenly noticed Daniel watching her with soft, gentle eyes. Her face heated up, and she ended up choking.
"Are you okay?" Daniel asked, patting her back quickly.
"I’m fine," Chantelle said, placing her hand on his arm for support.
"Drink slowly. No one is fighting you for the soup," Daniel said softly, almost coaxing her the way someone would comfort a child.
Chantelle felt the heat rising in her cheeks again. She focused on drinking the soup and did not dare look up at him.
Maybe it was the soup, or maybe it was seeing her children, but her stomachache had lessened.
The triplets watched their parents slowly reconcile, then secretly glanced at one another. While Chantelle and Daniel were busy they sneaked toward the ward door and peeked inside through the crack. They saw Old Mr. Nelsen on the bed, while the three Nelsen brothers were kneeling beside him.
"Are the uncles in trouble?" Kane asked. He tried to lean closer to listen, but he leaned too hard on the door, lost his balance, and hit his head against it, which immediately alerted the men inside the ward.
Old Mr. Nelsen turned his head and saw the three children standing at the door looking guilty. His anger at his grandsons faded immediately. He looked at his great-grandchildren with nothing but affection, finding all of them sweet and lovable.
"Get up. Call your sister to come here," Old Mr. Nelsen ordered the three brothers who were still kneeling.
Rowan glanced at the ECG monitor connected to his grandfather. Seeing that his vitals had mostly stabilized, he thought it was okay to allow Chantelle to come. However, when Rowan saw Daniel had followed Chantelle into the room, Rowan blocked his way. "Mr. Wilson, it’s not a good time for Grandfather to see you right now."
"I go where my wife goes," Daniel said directly. He had never liked the Nelsens, and he was not going to let them interfere with his relationship with Chantelle.
"Why can’t Daddy come inside?" Steph complained, clearly unhappy with Rowan.
"Because Grandpa has something private to discuss with your mommy," Rowan explained gently to her.
"We’re one family. There’s nothing private between us," Steph said seriously, pouting to show her displeasure.
Kane and Railer immediately moved to stand beside Daniel. If their dad wasn’t allowed inside, they wouldn’t go either.
Rowan looked at Chantelle with a helpless expression, silently asking her to help.
Based on Daniel’s past experience, Chantelle would usually side with Rowan and tell him to leave. This time, Daniel had no intention of going anywhere.
"I’m not very close with Old Mr. Nelsen. I don’t think there’s anything my family shouldn’t be allowed to hear," Chantelle said calmly, surprising Rowan.
Daniel could hardly hide the surprise on his face. He had thought Chantelle was still angry with him and would keep her distance. He never expected her to openly admit their relationship in front of Rowan.
"Well... come in then," Rowan murmured. Since Chantelle had spoken, he could no longer stop Daniel.
Old Mr. Nelsen’s face lit up the moment he saw Chantelle and the children. But his smile vanished the moment he noticed Daniel had entered the ward with them.
