CHAPTER 725: IN THE MOMENT OF DANGER, HE PROTECTED HER BY SHIELDING HER WITH HIS BODY.
"Let’s go, it’s almost noon, we should head back too." Felix Shaw had no intention of putting Mia Foster down. Bringing her to the construction site was not a spur-of-the-moment decision. Rather, he wanted to probe for something from her.
Who knew this woman could be so clever, always playing Tai Chi with him.
Turning to the engineer beside him, Felix Shaw gave a few more instructions, then carried Mia Foster towards the exit of the construction site.
It wasn’t yet lunchtime, and the workers were all busy at work. Seeing the big boss holding a woman, they couldn’t help but glance over curiously while continuing their labor.
Mia Foster was open-minded, but she still felt it was rather inappropriate to be held like this by Felix Shaw under such public scrutiny, especially considering Felix’s status. With a burning cheek, she whispered, "Felix, the path here is clear, put me down, lots of people are watching."
Felix Shaw looked up and, without saying anything, put Mia Foster down, who then straightened her work clothes and followed beside him towards the entrance.
The construction work required a lot of building materials, and trucks were passing by one after another.
The workers in front were neatly stacking the freshly unloaded hollow bricks. They all cast a curious glance when they saw the two passing by, as it was rare to see a woman on the site, and Mia Foster had just been in Felix Shaw’s arms.
A worker was shifting bricks while watching them and smiling, only to trip and lunge forward with a stack of bricks in his arms.
The direction in which the worker toppled was towards a newly built brick wall, and Mia Foster and Felix Shaw were passing right by it at that moment. A nearby worker shouted "Watch out!" and dropped his stack of bricks to try and grab the falling worker, but it was already too late.
Mia Foster, walking beside Felix, didn’t dare to look up because of his earlier actions, with many eyes on her. Hearing that shout, she looked up puzzled and saw the falling brick wall, forgetting to react.
As the hollow bricks tumbled towards her, she felt a tightening around her waist and suddenly fell to the ground.
She was in pain, but not from being hit by the falling hollow bricks. It was the sudden impact with the ground.
Her body was being shielded by a towering figure, lying in the dirt, with her safety helmet still tightly secured on her head. Amidst a chaotic rush, Mia Foster was helped up by the workers, trembling as she stood up, only to realize that at that dangerous moment, it was Felix Shaw who had shielded her with his body.
"Boss, are you okay?"
"Boss! Boss!"
Felix Shaw had already been helped up and was sitting on the sandy ground, surrounded by workers, uncertain of the extent of his injuries.
"Felix, how are you? Where does it hurt? I’ll call an ambulance," Mia Foster hurried over and pushed through the workers surrounding Felix, squatting down to ask with concern.
"I’m fine," Felix Shaw shook his head slightly, his eyes closed but his brows tightly furrowed.
"Felix..." Mia Foster called out again, then turned to look for her bag. Seeing Mia Foster kneeling on the dirt, rummaging through her bag, Felix Shaw said with a furrowed brow, "Mia... no need, I’ll be fine after a rest..."
"Are you really okay, Felix?"
Mia Foster ran back, squatting in front of Felix, her face pale with shock.
"I’m fine," Felix Shaw smiled. Nearby, the construction foreman had already rushed over and was now sternly scolding the worker.
"Come on, help me up." Felix Shaw reached out his hand, and Mia Foster instinctively held it, using her strength to help Felix rise while supporting himself off the ground. Turning to the foreman, he said, "That’s enough, back to work. It wasn’t intentional, just be more careful next time."
