CHAPTER 25: CHAPTER 25: ARE YOU AFRAID MAEVE LANE WILL EAT YOU OR SOMETHING?

Maeve Lane, Julian Fairchild, and Henry Hughes seemed to have flipped a switch after meeting once in that alley.

According to Henry Hughes—

"Why does Maeve Lane seem like she’s fitted you with a GPS tracker?"

He was sitting in an empty classroom, as there were no classes in the afternoon, leaving only Julian Fairchild and Henry Hughes there.

Just as Henry Hughes finished speaking, a delightfully pleasant voice drifted in from outside the classroom—

"What are you saying about me?"

Julian Fairchild’s brow furrowed slightly.

He was sitting in the second row, a particularly convoluted textbook in front of him, while Maeve Lane leaned against the doorway, smiling at Julian Fairchild.

Henry Hughes felt like a massive third wheel, chuckling, "Well, I’ll take my leave, Julian. The counselor wants to see me this afternoon."

Julian Fairchild exuded a chilling aura, making the very air seem to freeze.

After Henry Hughes left, Maeve Lane naturally took the seat he had just vacated.

Without saying a word, she propped her head up with her hand, her lips curving upwards silently as she stared at him.

Her gaze was so unreserved that Julian Fairchild couldn’t ignore it even if he wanted to.

He turned his head to glance at her, speaking coldly, "Didn’t I make myself clear last time?"

Maeve Lane laughed, "You did, I’m not deaf."

Looking into her attractive eyes, Julian Fairchild said, "Then stay away from me now."

Maeve Lane raised an eyebrow, not offended, and pulled a textbook from her bag, placing it on the desk. Her red lips parted, "But, you see, liking you and you not liking me are two separate things. Anyway, since you’ll be my boyfriend sooner or later, why not get familiar now?"

Julian Fairchild thought that every time he spoke with Maeve Lane, she always left him exasperated yet amused.

"You’re this confident?"

The weather had cooled, and Maeve Lane wore a black hoodie, her long curly hair cascading behind her. From Julian Fairchild’s view, he could see the girl’s elegant swan-like neck.

Her smile remained gentle, "Yes, after all, I’ve never missed before."

Julian Fairchild frowned a bit more, "This time, you might be disappointed."

"Really?" Maeve Lane suddenly leaned close to his ear, her voice slightly earnest, "Would you really turn me down?"

This scene replayed itself in Julian Fairchild’s mind over and over during the days they weren’t together.

It even became his nightmare.

If he could foresee the future and know just how much he’d come to like her.

He would definitely have held her firmly in his arms, never letting go.

But he didn’t.

At this moment, Julian Fairchild scoffed slightly, "I hope this is the last time I see you."

Finishing that, he packed up his things from the desk and walked straight out of the classroom.

...

Julian Fairchild originally thought Maeve Lane would give up, yet the next day, when he saw her, she acted as if nothing had happened.

Maeve Lane knew Julian Fairchild had a habit of eating in the first floor cafeteria at Tessera, and she could always spot him in the crowd with pinpoint accuracy.

"Julian Fairchild! Over here, I’ve saved you a seat!"

It was the crowded post-class period, and Maeve Lane inwardly lamented herself, was it easy chasing someone? Clearly, the third cafeteria was closer to her, yet she had to rush to the first cafeteria to find Julian Fairchild after class.

It was so difficult.

Henry Hughes spotted Maeve Lane in an instant, waved to her, then said to Julian Fairchild beside him, "Maeve Lane’s here, let’s have lunch with her."

Julian Fairchild’s expression showed a hint of annoyance, turning to decline, "No, I’ll find another seat."

Henry Hughes quickly grabbed him, teasing, "What seat? The young lady saved one for you, are you afraid Maeve Lane will eat you up?"
