CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31: MAEVE LANE: AM I AWESOME OR NOT?

The room fell silent, and Julian Fairchild furrowed his brow in deep thought.

Maeve Lane’s gaze, which had been fixed on Julian, stood out in particular.

Professor Finch cleared his throat, "The girl who’s been staring at her deskmate, how about you answer this question?"

Julian turned his head, his eyes as dark as an icy pool meeting Maeve’s light brown eyes.

Her beautiful eyes were like a clear spring.

Maeve was not flustered at all; there was even an air of calm confidence as she stood up.

"Student, what’s your name?"

"Maeve Lane."

The moment the name was mentioned, whispers spread throughout the classroom, with many showing expressions of shock.

The person who had been by Julian Fairchild’s side all this time was actually Maeve Lane!

"Nice name." Professor Finch nodded, smiling as he asked, "Do you know the meaning of ’Chong Er’?"

Julian furrowed his brows.

Maeve’s lips curved slightly, "’Chong Er’ isn’t actually ’Chong Er’; instead it’s ’Feng Yue’, it’s actually ’Wind and Moon’ removed from its context, meaning ’Boundless Wind and Moon’."

The mystery unraveled.

Many people in the room looked at Maeve in astonishment.

Even in Julian’s eyes flashed a hint of surprise.

Maeve’s numerous rumors often caused people to overlook that she had genuinely earned her admission to Aurelia University.

Professor Finch displayed a satisfied smile, "Not bad, you’re quite clever, young lady."

"Thank you, teacher."

"Have you heard anyone mention it before?"

Maeve answered honestly, "No."

Professor Finch regarded Maeve with a different expression, "Then tell me, what is ’Feng Yue’?"

She fell silent for a bit, even the smile on her lips faded some, "The mountains lose their credibility, wind and moon are boundless."

Professor Finch studied Maeve and Julian thoughtfully, and with a sigh out of sight, "And what does your ’wind and moon’ mean?"

"The difficulty of wind and moon is that the person in front of you is as unreachable as the moon in the sky."

"..."

The two conversed like solving riddles, discussing everything under the sun.

Despite her young age, Maeve was able to hold her own in conversation with Professor Finch, and as things progressed, his eyes glowed with appreciation resembling that of an encounter with an old friend, "What do you think those who cherish memories should do?"

Maeve answered quickly and with dignity, "There’s nothing wrong with cherishing memories, but clinging to them is a big mistake."

So, was Henry Hughes referring to this when he said that Maeve Lane never goes back to someone she’s left?

Julian thought of what Henry Hughes said yesterday, a thought appearing at an inappropriate time.

He lightly tapped his index finger on the desk, his gaze thoughtful.

The things Maeve said didn’t sound like something a first-year college girl would say.

What has happened to her?

Professor Finch asked Maeve a few more questions, and if it weren’t for it being class time, he would have been reluctant to stop the conversation.

He let her sit down reluctantly, his gaze full of admiration, "Not bad, which class are you in?"

"I’m a first-year in the Finance Department."

The professor glanced at Julian.

Julian was well-known as always taking first in his grade, excelling across various competitions, collecting awards effortlessly.

The purpose behind first-year Maeve’s presence couldn’t be more obvious.

Professor Finch was pleased with the notion, as he liked both of them, imagining how smart their offspring would be.

Maeve surely hadn’t anticipated that Professor Finch had already started imagining how their children with Julian Fairchild would look. As she sat down, she couldn’t resist teasing Julian a little, "So, what do you think, am I impressive?"

Julian’s gaze was calm and deep, he looked at her steadily for a while before suddenly replying, "Mm."

Maeve was stumped for a second; she seemed to hear Julian respond just now??
