CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: I’VE ARRIVED IN PALOVA TOO

Julian Fairchild’s pupils constricted intensely.

His heart almost leaped out of his chest.

Maeve Lane’s body moved faster than her mind, and by the time she realized what she was doing, she didn’t push him away in a panic, but instead met his gaze, calmly lowering her hand.

All background noise seemed to vanish, Julian furrowed his brow, his gaze locked firmly on her figure, as if questioning why she was doing this.

In the afternoon sun, Maeve’s pink little face was flushed with a bewitching blush, whether from the sun or a reflection, it was hard to say.

Facing Julian’s probing gaze, a mischievous thought sparked in her heart, she playfully raised her delicate eyebrows, her small tongue teasingly licking her moist lower lip.

Julian’s gaze tightened at the sight.

Maeve’s charming foxy eyes were full of mischief, "Why are you looking at me like that, do you want me to take responsibility?"

Julian adjusted his breathing, sternly said, "Don’t do that again in the future."

It was uncertain if the girl heard him, he heard her casually respond, "Mhm."

"Let’s eat, I’m starving," Maeve left him with a profile view as she walked straight toward the nearby restaurant, "I lost my phone, can you lend me some money? I’ll pay you back."

Though she said she needed to borrow money, Maeve showed no sign of asking for a favor, as if certain he would lend it to her, or that she always had a way to make things work out for herself.

He wasn’t her only option.

Julian lifted his eyelids, secretly pondering, becoming more attached to Maeve was not a good thing for him.

For Maeve, it should be something like affection, otherwise, how would a girl like her lower her proud head to pursue him.

Especially since she refused to give up despite being rejected by him time and again.

Yet Julian could never seem to understand Maeve, unlike those other girls who chased him, whose eyes carried infatuation and shyness.

Maeve’s eyes were always calm, without any ripples.

Maeve felt someone watching her, her steps slowed slightly, her head turned a bit, just in time to meet Julian’s gaze, she paused, then habitually lifted her lips into a smile, "What is it? Let’s go?"

The tall, handsome man stood there, a sight to behold in his own right.

Julian remained silent, paused for a few seconds in place, then finally stepped forward to follow her.

Maeve raised an eyebrow slightly.

What happened to him?

Could it be that the kiss left him dazed?

This thought popped into her mind, making her laugh to herself, a faint sound scattered in the wind, "Speaking of which, that was truly my first kiss."

If it weren’t for that incident a few months ago.

Maeve’s eyes dimmed, her gaze suddenly cold to the extreme.

She pulled a pill from her pocket, tossing it into her mouth with ease, its bitter taste spreading quickly.

Just then, Julian passed by, noticing Maeve frown, he turned his eyes away and asked, "What’s wrong?"

After walking for so long without water, Maeve’s throat was already dry, much less having swallowed the pill directly, now her voice was a bit hoarse, "Nothing, just low blood sugar."

He looked down, seeing that what she held indeed resembled candy wrappers, so he lightly acknowledged with an "Mm," and slightly raised his chin, "How about that place?"

Ahead stood a classical building with intertwining pavilions, surrounded by natural streams and mist, adding to its ethereal air.

Aurelia’s autumn sun was still relentless, and Maeve had set her sights on this place, "Alright."

At that moment, Maeve heard Julian’s phone ring.

He answered, "Hello?"

A carefree, hearty male voice came through—

"Julian, where are you now? I’m in Palova too."
