CHAPTER 38: CHAPTER 38: SHE SEEMS TO BE ACTING CUTE (SECOND UPDATE)

Henry Hughes’s voice is very unique; once you’ve heard it, you remember it. Just like him, he leaves a lasting impression, unforgettable at first sight.

Julian Fairchild stood by the roadside talking, with dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves onto him. Even his perpetually stern expression seemed to soften slightly, shedding a bit of age-old maturity and exuding a youthful vigor befitting his age.

Quite a few people were already sneaking glances, and some bold girls seemed eager to get to know Julian Fairchild.

This guy really doesn’t let people relax.

Maeve Lane cast a glance around; their intent was all too obvious.

Thinking this, she quietly moved a bit closer to Julian Fairchild, maintaining a respectful distance that he could accept but looked intimate to outsiders.

As she moved over, she caught sight of a few girls’ unwilling glances out of the corner of her eye.

A faint smile appeared in Maeve Lane’s eyes, and she raised her eyebrows challengingly. Those girls, with blatant jealousy, glared at Maeve a few times before leaving.

What Maeve didn’t notice was that many passing boys were also secretly eyeing her, their eyes practically glowing.

Julian Fairchild finished his call, "Henry Hughes is coming. I sent him the address; let’s wait for him here."

Maeve Lane pressed her lips together, "Hmm, how long will he take?"

"Half an hour."

"Alright."

The restaurant in front of them was called "The Sandalwood Hearth."

It had become a must-visit spot for tourists on Palova.

The "Gods Jumps Over the Wall" dish was a renowned specialty, even ranking in the top ten of local delicacies.

It was supposed to be a team building event, but it was really just a hike and then a meeting back at school. Besides following Julian Fairchild, a big reason Maeve Lane came was to taste the dishes at this restaurant.

Because of its fame, there were many people in front of the restaurant. Maeve went to get a waiting number, her voice shaky when she told Julian Fairchild, "Number 322."

"What number are they at now?"

"Number 222."

"..."

With a hundred people ahead, who knows how long this would take.

Even the usually calm Julian Fairchild was slightly perturbed, "Let’s go to another restaurant."

Maeve Lane was very hungry now. The climb up hadn’t felt like much at the time, but standing in front of the restaurant, her stomach protested continuously. She complained, "But I really want to eat here."

Who knows when they would come again next time.

She felt she wouldn’t climb a mountain thousands of meters high for someone again because it was just too exhausting.

Julian paused.

She might not have realized, but her voice sounded almost like she was whining.

An inexplicable protective instinct surged from his chest. Julian Fairchild forced himself to ignore the feeling and looked away, "Let’s wait then."

Maeve Lane’s lips curled into a light smile, "Alright."

"But there’s quite a crowd now; let’s find somewhere to rest for a bit."

The air at the mountain top was indeed refreshing, but the wind was also really strong, and standing still for long made it quite cold.

She was wearing a daring midriff-baring top, and the black arm sleeves offered no warmth at all; the wind blew right through them, chilling her. "Let’s take a walk; there are so many people, we’ll probably have to wait at least an hour or two."

Walking around wasn’t so cold.

It was now half past twelve, and dining would probably extend to two or three in the afternoon. Fortunately, the restaurant had a large capacity; otherwise, the wait could have been even longer.

Julian Fairchild had no objections.

Maeve Lane walked over to the map at the scenic area, her eyes lit up, "Let’s head this way; it looks like there’s rock climbing."

He stepped closer to see—

"Valemore Cliff."
