CHAPTER 61: CHAPTER 61: WHAT IS THIS

"When I left the office last night, I saw your necklace was still on the table. Hmm, how could it be missing?" Serena Sullivan pondered the question seriously, then her eyes lit up as if she had thought of something.

"I’ve got it."

She smiled at Zoe Quinn and said earnestly, "It must have been taken by the first person who came in this morning."

"When I arrived, you all were already here."

Upon hearing this, the sarcasm in Zoe Quinn’s eyes grew more intense. She had expected a better explanation but was disappointed by such a lame excuse.

"It wasn’t me!"

Before Zoe Quinn and the others could speak, Designer Cheney blurted out anxiously.

All three people in the office looked at Designer Cheney, whose face was flushed as she defended herself again, "When I came, there was no necklace on Miss Quinn’s desk."

"I didn’t take it."

She was aware that Zoe Quinn’s necklace was quite expensive, and now that it was claimed to have been taken by the first person to arrive, she was nearly in tears.

"Oh!" Serena Sullivan dragged out her response, seemingly lost in thought, as if she were genuinely considering where Zoe Quinn’s necklace might have gone.

"If it wasn’t me and it wasn’t you, did the necklace grow legs and run away by itself?"

She raised her head to look at the surveillance camera in the corner at the front of the office.

"The surveillance in our office has a problem; nothing was recorded from yesterday to today," Zoe Quinn explained to Serena, pursing her lips and speaking in a flat tone, "It would be better if the surveillance was working."

Indeed, if the surveillance were functional, this matter would be much simpler.

"Since you all claim you didn’t take Miss Quinn’s belongings, let’s conduct a search," Shannon Shaw suggested, eagerly moving towards Serena Sullivan.

"Mrs. Grant, forgive me." She spoke as she reached to move Serena Sullivan’s wheelchair, but Serena grasped her hand.

"To keep things fair, it’s better to call security."

"You’re part of this office too."

"How could I possibly take Miss Quinn’s things?" Shannon Shaw cried out anxiously, "Mrs. Grant, you claim you didn’t take it, so why won’t you let me search? Unless you want to alert Mr. Grant? So he can protect you!"

If Ethan Grant came here now, even if the necklace were found, he would say it had nothing to do with Serena Sullivan.

Even if the necklace was found and evidence presented, Ethan Grant’s arrival wouldn’t change anything.

"Alright then." Serena Sullivan said, feeling resigned.

Zoe Quinn moved closer, fearing that Serena might complain to Ethan Grant or Yvette Sterling right under their noses.

Shannon Shaw, lacking patience to deal with Serena, quickly freed her hand and fiercely pulled Serena out of the seat.

With the force exerted by Shannon plus Zoe’s push on the side, the wheelchair rolled backward in the aisle. Seeing this, Designer Cheney hurried over to grab one side of the wheelchair to steady it for Serena.

"Search if you want, but why be so rough?" Designer Cheney muttered in discontent.

Serena smiled at her, "Don’t worry, it’s okay."

Serena was particularly mindful of those who treated her well, and with Designer Cheney speaking up for her now, Serena took note.

Shannon Shaw rifled through Serena’s area in a chaotic manner. She pulled out each drawer and emptied its contents. When she opened the last one, she saw something shiny inside, which made her eyes sparkle.

"What’s this!" Shannon Shaw stood up, looking delighted, as she questioned Serena Sullivan.

It was indeed Zoe Quinn’s necklace!

Serena Sullivan stared at the necklace found in her drawer with disbelief, her face turning pale with shock.

"Impossible!"

"I didn’t take her necklace."
