CHAPTER 78: CHAPTER 78: EMERGENCY PROGRAM RESCUE

Susie Sommers listened to Ann Vaughn speak, while Sawyer Jennings silently wheeled himself over to the medicine cabinet and started memorizing it carefully.

Ann Vaughn’s gaze fell on his legs. Although recent treatments had been slowly helping his legs recover, walking normally was still a far-off achievement.

So, he’s still in a wheelchair.

Unexpectedly for Ann Vaughn, Sawyer Jennings had an exceptionally good memory, not only remembering the names of the medicines but accurately recalling their locations and effects.

"Sawyer, you’re amazing." Ann Vaughn walked over to Sawyer Jennings, patted his head, and smiled, "Staying home all the time wastes your talents."

Sawyer Jennings pursed his lips without speaking, but his face turned red.

A thought quietly arose in his mind.

Just then, Ann Vaughn’s phone rang, interrupting her. She glanced at the phone and answered, "Susie, what’s up?"

This young lady had been extremely busy lately. Why would she suddenly call to joke around?

"Annie! Sweetheart! You’re the only one who can save me!" Susie Sommers wailed, sounding pitiful from the other side.

"What happened? Speak slowly." Ann Vaughn thought something major had occurred and quickly told her to calm down and explain what had happened.

It turned out that Susie Sommers was responsible for a Chinese medicine program, but the doctor had been found to have a black history with serious issues. Just as the show was about to start, this doctor escaped!

He left a mess behind, making Susie Sommers extremely anxious, especially since the show was about to air. Contacting a new doctor and ensuring everything took too much time, it was impossible to make it.

Susie Sommers then remembered that Ann Vaughn was a student at The Herbalist Hospital. Although she hadn’t seen Ann Vaughn’s medical skills, besides Ann Vaughn, no one around her worked in this field at the moment.

After listening to her, Ann Vaughn pondered for a moment that this might be an opportunity to turn the situation around for the little clinic and for Chinese medicine.

"Alright, I’ll go."

After hanging up the phone, Ann Vaughn prepared to catch a ride to the TV station, but as she turned around, she met Sawyer Jennings’s silent gaze, suddenly thinking of an important issue.

This little guy, what should be done?

-

Half an hour later, Ann Vaughn arrived at the TV station with Sawyer Jennings. She initially intended for the little guy to play in the library for a while to prevent him from getting bored.

But he insisted on following, so Ann Vaughn had to ask Susie Sommers to look after Sawyer Jennings for a bit.

Due to the haste, Susie Sommers briefly explained the program’s general process while Ann Vaughn was getting her makeup done.

Because it was a live show, surprises create highlights; therefore, there wasn’t a script, requiring Ann Vaughn to perform spontaneously.

"Move quickly, there’s still fifteen minutes left, has the lighting on stage been confirmed?"

"Where’s Susie? Come over to confirm if there’s anything that needs changing for the final process."

"..."

The scene was bustling, and even though Ann Vaughn was called in last minute to save the day, she also felt a bit nervous.

Five minutes before the show started, Susie Sommers watched Ann Vaughn sitting on stage, her palms continuously sweating.

At that moment, a cold sneer came from nearby, "I thought you were capable of getting some famous doctors. Looks like you couldn’t find a solution, so you just got a pretty face to catch attention?"

"Why, did The great Miss Linden, who got her job at the station through connections, turn into a jealous lemon?" Susie Sommers was most annoyed by people speaking badly about Ann Vaughn and retorted immediately, "The show hasn’t even started yet, aren’t you afraid you’ll get slapped later by your lofty words, The great Miss Linden?"

She really didn’t understand where Vivian Lynch got the nerve to speak ill of her Annie; she’s no better herself, always keen on going against her.

Vivian Lynch glanced at the stage and then sneered, "Well, I’ll watch closely then. Maybe this will be your last episode."

After speaking, Vivian Lynch strutted off in her high heels.

Susie Sommers rolled her eyes at her retreating figure, then held her breath and looked at the stage as the live broadcast began and entered the Chinese medicine knowledge quiz segment.

The host knew Ann Vaughn was called in last minute and saw that she was so young, hence doubting she had knowledge, developing a sense of disdain.

The questions were increasingly tricky and harsh. Whether they were answered correctly was one thing; even having heard of them was another.

Not to mention, the host wanted to generate highlights from her reactions to attract the audience, thus showing no mercy.

If Ann Vaughn faltered or became disheartened over not answering correctly, the host’s goal would be achieved.

However, Ann Vaughn had studied medical books deeply since childhood, and these challenges weren’t really tests for her; after a slight pause, she’d provide the correct answers.

Ten questions in a row, each answer was so precise that no one could find fault with even a single point.

The host was taken aback, looking at Ann Vaughn’s faint smile, realizing he underestimated her, and couldn’t help but become serious.

"Our program invited three patients separately, saying that Chinese medicine emphasizes looking, listening, questioning, and feeling the pulse—without instruments, one can know the patient’s symptoms. Can Doctor Vaughn show everyone this ability?"

"Of course." Ann Vaughn nodded, and soon, the three patients were invited on stage.

"Doctor Vaughn, please examine these three patients and tell us their conditions." The host spoke as he was about to invite Ann Vaughn to diagnose the patients.

Unexpectedly, Ann Vaughn shook her head, "No need, can I start talking now?"

She hadn’t even begun feeling pulses, what was she going to say?

"...Please." The host’s expression was somewhat cracked, initially thinking Ann Vaughn was a talented doctor, only to find her arrogance was overwhelming.

Who knew—

"The one on the right has a slight rib fracture. The one in the middle has a sallow complexion and dark lips—signs of dual deficiencies in qi and blood. If I’m not mistaken, you have a liver problem."

Ann Vaughn’s gaze moved from right to left, finally stopping on the slim middle-aged woman on the left, pausing, "I suggest you go to the hospital for a detailed examination soon."

The host’s expression shifted from disdain to surprise, and then to perplexity—truly an amazing range.

Because except for the last patient, Ann Vaughn was completely correct!

If the host wasn’t sure this show had no script, with questions being kept secret, and these patients were directly invited to the TV station she hadn’t met before, she’d genuinely suspect Ann Vaughn was cheating!

How could she merely glance and be so accurate?

"Doctor Vaughn truly opened our eyes, but unfortunately, the last patient only has a cold, with no other health issues. This question, Doctor Vaughn got it wrong..."

"It’s definitely not wrong." Ann Vaughn looked at the woman, her clear brows steadfast, "I sincerely suggest you have a detailed check, don’t wait until it’s too late before regretting."

The middle-aged woman didn’t take it seriously initially but somehow felt a bit uneasy after Ann Vaughn’s statement.
