Chapter 120: She Won’t Know Her Place Until She’s Taught a Lesson
CHAPTER 120: CHAPTER 120: SHE WON’T KNOW HER PLACE UNTIL SHE’S TAUGHT A LESSON
Ethan Sterling drove the car, keeping his gaze on Seraphina Redgrave, observing her actions.
Watching her hold the candy in her hand in a daze, she didn’t actually discard it, her expression finally softened a bit.
Not too foolish.
As the largest conglomerate in Z Country, the Sterling naturally occupies the most central location in Sovereign.
The top floor CEO office is decorated in dark tones, creating an indescribable somber feeling.
Ethan Sterling stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the entire city. Everything within sight belonged to the Sterling’s property.
Even just standing there, his silhouette exudes an intimidating aura.
On the computer screen of his desk, a surveillance video is playing, clearly showing a certain funeral home.
Seraphina Redgrave, in a black dress, holds Nanny Lynch’s urn with no expression, yet the sorrow in her eyes surpasses a thousand words.
The sound of knocking interrupts.
The next moment, Nathan Ayers’s voice comes from the doorway: "Young Master Sterling, there’s a document requiring your signature."
"Come in," Ethan Sterling replied expressionlessly.
The door from outside opened, Nathan Ayers pushed it and walked in, placing the document in his hands on the table, and said, "Young Master Sterling, the proposal for the Haoxing Project, for your review."
As Nathan spoke, he took a high-end custom steel pen from the pen box, twisted off the cap, and upon raising his head, the scene on the computer screen made him quiver.
After being recorded at the police station, Nanny Lynch’s body was claimed back, and the young lady organized a funeral for Nanny Lynch.
The computer screen now plays footage of that film.
In the video, Seraphina Redgrave holds the urn, seemingly intending to personally see Nanny Lynch off for the last journey.
Why is Young Master Sterling watching this?
Ethan Sterling turned around and walked to the desk, giving Nathan Ayers a cold glance, then picked up the document to start reviewing.
Nathan didn’t dare to look further nor speak again, as Ethan Sterling signed his name at the end of the file before handing it back to Nathan.
Nathan Ayers was about to leave, only to be interrupted by Ethan Sterling: "Report on Seraphina Redgrave’s recent activities."
Ethan Sterling gently tapped on the computer screen where Seraphina appeared, using his pen.
Nathan Ayers stared at the screen, puzzled by Ethan Sterling’s intention.
Recently, if not at the company, Young Master Sterling was at Hibiscus Garden; how come he suddenly asks about the young lady’s current situation?
But since Young Master Sterling asked, Nathan had to respond.
"Ever since she stirred trouble at the Lynch Family, the young lady has been staying at Hibiscus Garden, except for going out to jog, she hasn’t been out otherwise, today’s her first time stepping out."
Nathan Ayers answered.
"Don’t you think she’s been unusually quiet these days?" Ethan Sterling leaned against the chairback, eyes coldly fixed on the serene girl in the video.
"Quiet? I haven’t paid detailed attention to the young lady’s situation."
Nathan again responded.
How could he meticulously pay attention to Seraphina Redgrave’s quietness every day? If he did, Young Master Sterling would immediately show him the consequences of such attention.
Ethan Sterling flicked the pen in his hand, leaving a lingering shadow: "She has avenged, put yourself in her shoes, what would you do now?"
Nathan Ayers stood before the desk, suddenly recalling the previous incident when Young Master Sterling returned abruptly from A Country while discussing business, worried that Seraphina would escape, thus he replied: "Do you think the young lady plans to run?"
"She’s too calm."
Looking at the slender figure on the screen, Ethan Sterling spoke.
These days, Seraphina Redgrave obediently stayed by his side, awfully compliant, showing no sign of resistance.
This unsettling calmness raised his suspicions.
"But I don’t think so, Granny Coleman said after the burial today, the young lady plans to take her to eat, then go to school, mentioning she hasn’t attended for ages."
Nathan Ayers suddenly recalled Granny Coleman’s earlier tales.
Everything afterward seemed planned out, not appearing as if she intended to run.
Upon hearing this, Ethan Sterling’s gaze instantly chilled, he slammed the table, voice hoarse: "When I was in A Country, she already planned to take Nanny Lynch and Granny Coleman away."
Apparently, she’s attempting the same trick again.
"But the young lady didn’t escape last time?"
Nathan was somewhat puzzled.
"That’s because she drank poison."
Ethan Sterling looked at him, face gloomy.
Upon hearing this, Nathan finally realized Seraphina Redgrave wasn’t unwilling to run, but an unexpected event disrupted her plan.
"I’ll immediately arrange a team to keep an eye on the young lady."
Nathan quickly became serious, ready to organize the matters.
"No." Ethan Sterling leaned back in the chair, stopping him.
"No?" Nathan showed concern, "I’m worried the young lady might already have plans to evade previous guards, without adding people, she very possibly could..."
Seraphina Redgrave, given her skills, ditching a few bodyguards isn’t a problem.
"I meant, don’t stick close to her." Ethan Sterling said, "Use more people to form a large encirclement, trapping her inside, the moment she makes a move, tighten the circle, she surely won’t escape."
"Huh?"
Keeping close seems safer, right?
Nathan didn’t comprehend.
Ethan Sterling sat in the chair, his handsome face devoid of expression, only his eyes brimming with calculation.
After a long while, he tapped his fingers lightly on the desk, coldly chuckling: "If she doesn’t experience it, she won’t know the vastness of the sky."
Nathan remained silent.
"Get that wheelchair out, prepare it in advance, if she dares to run, I’ll break her legs."
Ethan Sterling said coldly, showing no hint of compassion for Seraphina Redgrave.
"Understood, Young Master Sterling."
Nathan dared not say more, turned and left the CEO office.
If Seraphina Redgrave dared to run, and he couldn’t catch her, the one with broken legs might be himself.
Ethan Sterling sat before the computer, rested his chin on his hand, staring at the girl on the screen.
At that moment, Seraphina Redgrave already sat in the car with the urn. Her black dress made her face appear even paler.
She showed no expression, nor did she cry, yet was more sorrowful than anyone.
Ethan Sterling raised his hand, gently touched the screen displaying the girl, his gaze hard to describe as gloomy: "My rose, be obedient, I don’t wish to see you become a cripple."
The sun outside was at its peak, yet he was surrounded by a chilling aura.
Nanny Lynch’s funeral was simple, only attended by Granny Coleman and Seraphina Redgrave hosting it.
Seraphina Redgrave bought the cemetery’s finest spot, but she knew, no matter how much she did, Nanny Lynch never would see it.
On the top floor of Sovereign’s largest hotel, were several of the hotel’s best private rooms.
In the innermost room, two women sat at the table, with a large spread of dishes, yet had set three sets of cutlery.
Granny Coleman cried more in sorrow, watching a set of opened yet unused cutlery: "How could this be, we were arguing just days ago, how sudden to be gone."
"Everyone’s end is death, whether early or late they’ll die."
Seraphina Redgrave spoke with little emotion, taking a bite of rice.
Granny Coleman looked at Seraphina, "Young lady, how could you speak like this."
Seraphina Redgrave truly lacked comforting words.
