CHAPTER 46: CHAPTER 46: MIA REDGRAVE KOWTOWS

"Miss Redgrave is quite capable, offending our esteemed guest, Miss Shaw."

"Miss Shaw?"

Jonathan Redgrave, puzzled, turned his head. The wretch sitting in the chair was clearly Seraphina Redgrave.

"Miss Shaw saved the life of the Shaw Family’s leader. She is our benefactor, yet this Miss Redgrave had the audacity to publicly make things difficult for Miss Shaw and still shows no remorse afterward!" President Fuller said with an icy expression.

Saved the life of the Shaw Family’s leader?

Jonathan looked at President Fuller, whose face was filled with certainty, making it clear that this was an established fact. But...

He instinctively looked at Seraphina and saw that her wrist wasn’t adorned with any restricted zone handcuff, but rather an exquisite jade bracelet.

Three years ago, he had personally seen Seraphina being handcuffed, and how could restricted zone handcuffs be easily removed?

Could this girl really not be Seraphina, merely sharing her looks?

Jonathan hesitated.

The Shaw Family wasn’t something he, a mere councilor, could afford to offend.

This matter had to end here.

Thinking of this, Jonathan smiled apologetically, nodding and bowing to Seraphina: "Miss Shaw, I’m terribly sorry. My daughter has been spoiled by me. If there’s anything offensive, please be generous and forgive us."

Seraphina couldn’t help but laugh coldly inside, thinking what a good dog he was, willing to do anything for power.

Jonathan looked at Mia Redgrave, who was being pressed to kneel on the ground: "What are you waiting for? Apologize to Miss Shaw."

"Daddy?" Mia was dumbfounded, her voice trembling with genuine emotion: "What are you saying? How could I possibly apologize to this lunatic?"

Seraphina deserved her apology?!

Without another word, Jonathan slapped Mia across the face.

Mia let out a loud cry, struck speechless, as a bright red mark appeared on her pretty cheek.

She turned her head, only to see Jonathan’s even grimmer face: "If you don’t apologize, do you want the whole nation to know that the Redgrave Family raised such a spoiled daughter like you?"

"Daddy!"

Mia looked at Jonathan’s unyielding expression and finally gave in, turning her head to Seraphina with a voice weak for her own dignity, and said, "Sorry."

"That simple?" Seraphina twirled the jade bracelet and spoke lightly, "Has Miss Redgrave already forgotten her promise? Or does Miss Redgrave simply not want to kowtow to me?"

"Not a chance!"

Mia’s eyes reddened with anger.

She would never kowtow to that wretch in front of so many people!

Even though Jonathan was a councilor of Z Country, and his daughter was a carefully crafted heiress, kowtowing and apologizing now was a slap to the Redgrave Family’s face: "Miss Shaw, this..."

"What?" Seraphina still maintained that faint, smiling expression, "Does Mr. Redgrave want to fulfill the promise on behalf of Miss Redgrave?"

Jonathan’s face instantly turned ugly.

He was now certain this girl wasn’t Seraphina; the Seraphina he knew would tremble just under a second of his gaze, completely unlike the calm demeanor she showed now.

"Miss Shaw may be in the right, but isn’t such a demand too much?" Jonathan said, forcing a smile, his face looking awful.

"Since Mr. Redgrave insists on interfering in disputes between us youngsters, I’ll have to call Hector Shaw to assist me," Seraphina said calmly, smiling.

It seemed she wasn’t backing down each way.

Jonathan thrived on dealing with the powerplay of various families, and losing the support of the Shaw Family over such trivial matters would be more than unfortunate.

Jonathan was unwilling to let a mess caused by his daughter ruin his own career, so he turned away, displeased: "I won’t interfere in you youngsters’ matters anymore. Just do what needs to be done."

"Daddy!"

Mia was distraught. How could Jonathan, who always loved her dearly, abandon her like this?

"Get on with it." President Fuller urged impatiently.

Mia looked at Serena Lowell, lying hopeless on the ground, and then at the rich second-generation watchers around them, who used to be her followers or admirers, but now not even a squeak from them.

She looked at Jonathan but saw no trace of familiar affection on his face—only disgust and hatred.

Mia turned her muddled face towards Seraphina, high and mighty above.

That position should have been hers, yet it was Seraphina sitting there, while she was humiliated and kneeling here.

It hadn’t been this way before.

Mia swallowed all her resentment and shame, her tearful eyes on the verge, her whole body shaking.

In the end, she bowed her head.

"Miss Shaw, I’m sorry." Even her voice carried a sob.

"Why does it seem like it’s not from the heart?"

Seraphina chuckled lightly, taking the cake President Fuller handed her and eating the strawberry on top.

Mia knelt there, her complexion pale, devoid of any expected heiress dignity: "Miss Shaw, I was wrong before; everything was just me being unreasonable. Please forgive me."

Mia knelt on the floor, trembling all over, whether out of anger or embarrassment.

The entire hall was deathly silent, everyone merely watching in silence, none daring to speak up, only occasionally hearing Mia’s involuntary sobs.

"Miss Shaw, are you satisfied with this outcome now?"

President Fuller didn’t even look at the limp Mia on the ground and cautiously watched Seraphina.

Seraphina gently placed the cake she held down, the slight noise like it weighed a thousand-meters, pounding everyone’s heart: "This Miss Redgrave called me a thief, a beggar, even said I came from the restricted zone, and asked me to strip in public. Can I let her off so easily?"

Oh my!

This Redgrave Family’s young lady even committed such abominable acts!

President Fuller glared at Mia, even Jonathan couldn’t help but want to scold her. But now wasn’t the time, all he could do was let her continue bowing.

Foolish girl, even if this girl was indeed Seraphina, why couldn’t she handle things better on the surface, waiting for him to bring help?

Mia no longer dared to look up at the people’s eyes, her tears flowing uncontrollably, just as she was about to bow again, a pair of elegant high heels approached her slowly.

Mia was startled; one high heel lifted to touch her chin.

Mia’s eyes widened, the next second, her chin slowly lifted; she’d even forgotten to blink, seeing Seraphina gazing smilingly at her, and she felt like this scene had happened sometime before.

Only back then, their positions were reversed.

Seraphina sat on what was her throne, casually saying, "Miss Mia Redgrave, I was invited to your birthday party, originally to bring you blessings, but I didn’t expect such things to happen. Since you’re so unwelcoming, forget it."

President Fuller discerned Seraphina’s unsaid words from her demeanor; Seraphina didn’t want to see Mia holding any birthday parties anymore.

"Tear it down, hurry and demolish everything here fast."

Mia knelt there, her mouth half-opened, but finding no words to say.

"Bang!"

It was the sound of the sign being smashed, Mia’s angelically beautiful photo shattered into pieces.

"No!"

Her sign! Her birthday! Her dignity! All was destroyed!

Mia was almost losing her mind, staggering to stand, only to be pulled down again, clumsily kneeling onto the floor.

Seraphina’s amused voice sounded: "Where do you think you’re going?"
