CHAPTER 26: THE GIRL IS TOO CONCEITED

With a towel in hand, Hilla carefully wiped away the blood coming out of his nose.

She could not help but grumble in her heart.

If this happened a few more times, instead of being stimulated to recover, Bruce would be over-stimulated to death!

"I’m so sorry. It wasn’t intentional," said Hilla softly as she cleaned Bruce’s face thoroughly.

She knew that the person could not blame her, yet she still felt guilty.

"I’ve already apologized. You’re a grown man, so you can’t be petty and blame me. If you’re not saying anything, I’m treating it as you accepting my apology."

After saying that, she felt less guilty. She propped her chin on her hand and smiled. She said, "The things I said earlier was just to get you riled up. In the end, I still think that you’re more handsome.

"Aren’t you touched?"

Hilla blinked and suddenly, a naughty smile appeared on her face.

She opened the window to the balcony. A cool breeze came in, ridding the room of the remaining summer’s heat. It was already the start of autumn, and the wind was already getting cooler.

Under the illumination of the crystal chandelier, Hilla paid full attention to the man next to her and examined him. Her fingers carefully traced his brows.

For two months, she had been doing the same action numerous times. At first, she was doing it discreetly, and later on, it became natural.

When her finger reached his brows, she paused. She could not stop herself from coming closer to him and said, "Bruce, you have such long eyelashes."

How could a man’s eyelashes be longer and curl up more than hers? It was not fair!

"Sigh... Horton said that I should stimulate you more to make you wake up sooner. But I’m torn in between wanting and not wanting you to wake up. Just what sort of mindset is this?"

Whenever she saw Orlenna, her eyes were always filled with anticipation of her son waking up. When she thought about how Rudi Anderson mistreated her and her mother- in-law and when she thought about how others would tease Bruce about him being a comatose patient, she was always filled with annoyance. For some reason, she was always angry.

When that happened, she genuinely hoped that Bruce would open his eyes and wake up.

However, when she calmed down and the two of them shared a quiet time together in the room and she talked to him softly, she hoped that Bruce would not wake up.

Perhaps she was not mentally ready. Perhaps it was because the Bruce Anderson she knew right from the start was this quiet Bruce, so how was she supposed to get along with him in the future when he woke up?

Would their hobbies be the same?

Would their values be the same?

Would he protect, love, and pamper her?

Would he hug her tightly in his embrace and console her when she was upset?

Would he... like her?

Hilla did not know whether all of her thoughts would be turned to dust when Bruce Anderson woke up.

She was both anticipating and afraid of the day he woke up.

She kept on thinking as she lied on Bruce’s body and fell asleep. The gentle autumn wind seeped into the room, causing the married couple cuddling with each other to draw closer to each other.

Hilla hummed in her sleep before she curled up. In the dark, a large hand slowly landed on her shoulder under the warm light, and gently, he embraced her.

"Achoo! Achoo! AAAAACHOO!"

Lily turned to look at Hilla in disgust after Hilla sneezed consecutively early in the morning. Then, she handed her a small pack of tissue.

She drew away from her to avoid as she said, "Miss Holt, perhaps someone misses you dearly."

"No. I just caught a cold."

Hilla did not bother to turn to her as she replied. After speaking, she sneezed a few more times. She grabbed a tissue and blew her nose into it before discarding it into a trash can next to her.

She had no idea how she ended up on top of Bruce’s body when she slept last night. She had also forgotten to close the balcony door. To make things worse, she had slept without a blanket over her, causing her to be exposed to the autumn wind for an entire night. It would have been strange if she did not catch a cold.

Lily looked at how Hilla continued her crude antics. With disgust on her face, her lips twitched as she said, "You’re the most beautiful woman on campus. Could you please act accordingly and behave like an idol? Could you at least wipe your snot a little more... gracefully?"

Hilla lifted her head. Her eyes were tearing up. With a dizzy head, she pointed at her own nose that was becoming redder by the second because of how she had been tugging at it and said pitifully, "I’m already like this. How am I supposed to look more appealing?"

No matter how gracefully she could wipe her nose, the act of the campus beauty

wiping her nose was still an unsightly look. She found it hard to believe that other women at other campuses would look any better at wiping their noses when they were as sick as she was.

Lily waved her hand in resignation. Feeling powerless, she said, "I forgot that you were born beautiful. Forget about wiping your nose, even if you blow a fart, your suitors would treat it as the best perfume in the world."

Hilla took an antipyretic sticker and stuck it to her forehead. She mumbled, "You stink."

Lily replied with a fake smile and waved in Hilla’s general direction as if she was chasing away flies. "If I stink, then get away from me. I haven’t finished this month’s design draft so please, don’t spread your cold to me!"

"It’s not viral. You won’t get it from me."

That being said, Hilla still grabbed her chair and scooted to the side. But she was not dexterous at that moment, so the chair accidentally leaned too much to the side, and her entire body fell to the back.

Fortunately, a pair of warm hands appeared and supported her back. Then, she was pushed back properly. "If you’re sick, don’t be here spreading your sickness to others."

Hilla felt grateful for the help and turned around to thank her savior, but before she could say thanks, she had all her gratitude extinguished because of what Rigel said.

In that instant, all feelings of gratitude vanished. This upperclassman was just too toxic!

"That’s right! Hilla, you’re sick. You should go back and rest!"

Lily gave a profound smile. There was a clear message in her eyes: Go back and be with that comatose husband of yours and rest! Don’t bother me while I try to deepen my relationship with the upperclassman.

Hilla could already read what Lily was trying to convey and frowned. "I’m not finished with the pictorial board yet."

"Are you sure you could even do it?"

Rigel Richards arched an eyebrow, giving her a teasing look, and it was enough to send Hilla to the pits of hell. She had felt a chill down her spine just now when she saw him, and now, that chill became stronger.

She was feeling extremely dizzy, and her legs were weak. Her eyes were tearing up, and her nose was oozing with snot. Forget about the pictorial board, she could not even hold a brush properly.

"I’ll go back then. Also, please request a day off for me."

Hilla gave Lily a look, saying that she should not be worried about her. After that, she took her bag and left.

She staggered about, and every step she took felt like she was stepping in clouds.

Lily looked at how Hilla was walking and felt worried. "Could she even drive? I hope she won’t get into an accident."

By the side, Rigel glanced outside the window and frowned. He picked up his own bag and went out the door.

"Rigel! Wait! The president will be here shortly—"

"I’m taking a day off!"

Lily looked at the aloof and tall figure leaving and gave an adoring smile. "Ah... He’s so cool..."

The Anderson mansion was on the outskirts of the city. To reach it, one must drive a long, mountainous route.

Before she could even go up the mountains, Hilla sneezed hard and slowed down the car. Her tearing eyes suddenly picked up a large boulder in the middle of the road, and she quickly hit the brakes.

The tires screeched to a stop, and Hilla went down to check the condition of the car. Before she had the time to check it, she heard the sound of car doors being opened and closed from behind. She turned around and was shocked when she saw who was coming toward her.

...

The mountainous route was made wider by the Andersons so that it became easier to drive on. There were the occasional boulders on the route that came from the higher ground due to heavy rain.

Hilla was standing in front of a large boulder, frowning. She looked upwards at the slope. There were no signs of it coming from the hill, nor were there any gravel anywhere near it.

This meant that the boulder did not roll down on its own. Did it drop from the sky or surface from the ground?

Or did she actually stumble upon a mythical rock from the heavens?

Hilla laughed coldly and looked around. She saw another car drive up to her.

It was a black car emitting some kind of hostile aura. The car stopped rather abruptly, and three burly men came down from the car swiftly. She did not know them.

"Are you here to move the boulder away?"

Hilla greeted the three men coming up to her with a charming smile. The mole beneath her eyes only added to her charm. This was a face that could bewitch men, and it was a face that was too beautiful and dazzling.

The three of them had a shock. They turned to each other in tacit agreement and gave each other a look. The strong, brash aura they gave out before turned malicious.

"We’re not here to take care of the boulder. We’re here to take care of you!"

One of the three men walked forward. As he watched the young, beautiful lady who was as beautiful as a vixen, he held his breath.

When he saw her picture, he just thought that she was beautiful, but who knew that the real person was such a sight to behold? That smile she gave out earlier was so enticing that it could have killed him.

This business deal was good. Not only could they earn cold, hard cash, they could also enjoy the delectable lady in front of them.

With that thought in mind, their gazes became even more licentious as they looked at Hilla.

Hilla looked at the three men approaching her. The look in her eyes grew colder by the second, and the smile on her lips became more and more beautiful. It caused the men’s eyes to light up.

She was truly beautiful. As expected of the top socialite in New Island. Even the scent that came from her was sweet and fragrant.

"Who asked you to come and get me?"

Hilla’s calm and composed behavior threw them off -guard. They had never expected a little girl like her to have such courage. Any other normal person in her situation would have started to panic when the men approached them.

Hilla was acting differently. Instead of panicking, her smile grew sweeter.

Was she trying to seduce them? Perhaps she knew that she could never escape from them, so she took the initiative to appeal to their good side and wanted them to let her go.

The three shared the same thought. If she were willing to obey them, they would not mind being gentler to her while they had their way with her.

"Girl, you should know our rules. We can’t give you the information of the people who bought our services and asked us to do their bidding. We’re still going to do this for a living in the future."

’I see. So, someone paid them to commit a crime.’

Hilla smiled in understanding. Her voice became really pleasant to the ear on the quiet road.

"Did the person who bought your services tell you about my detailed information when they looked for you?"

"Of course!" the man in the lead said. The others behind him drew closer to him and said, "Bro, be careful. I think she’s trying to stall for time. If someone else comes over, it’ll be bad.

No matter what, they would have to drag her into their car. It would be much safer for them if they just threw her back out once they were done with her.

"Girl, you look really weak and fragile. Do you want to get into the car yourself, or do you want us to drag you in?"

Hilla chuckled and said coldly, "You can keep that car for yourselves. I would not take a ride in a car that is worth under a million dollars!"

She might sound really boastful, but she was still carrying the title of the top socialite in New Island. Even when Holt Corporation was bankrupt, she was still once a rich lady whose family ran a Chinese Hemlock business. She could still afford to ride or sit in a million-dollar car.

The three men were stunned. The one in the lead had a ruthless look in his eyes. All the playfulness was gone. "I don’t think you’re in the position to make the decision, girl."

The three gave each other a certain look and in the next instance, all of them surrounded her.

She was so thin and small. What could she do in the face of three strong men? Even one of them could easily best her.

One of them braced his courage and jumped the gun. He charged straight at Hilla.

His direction made it clear that he was aiming at her chest.

Hilla’s eyes turned cold. She spun her waist and kicked the back of the man’s knee. Then, she reached out and seized the man’s biceps. Her fingers tensed up, and with a flick, a loud "pop" was heard. The man screamed and fell to the ground.

The other two men had not approached her, and they were stunned. They looked at Hilla in surprise.

Hilla smiled, making her look as charming as a fairy. She lowered her voice into a whisper. "I’m afraid your client did not give you enough intel on me. I’ll only follow someone into their car if they bring out a carriage that is carried by eight people and carry me over. You only have three people. That’s not enough."

What a conceited girl!

"Bro, that girl knows how to fight!" The man on the ground was holding his broken arm as he struggled to get back up on his feet. But when he finally got his footing, he immediately fell to the ground. It was only then did he realize one of his legs was broken.

It was just a short moment and none of them saw what Hilla did, but by then, Hilla had already broken an arm and a leg.

The other two immediately became alert. No wonder the girl had remained so calm!

She was a fighter!

"Parker, get them out."

The girl’s movements were too quick. If she got close, they might break a bone or two.

Very soon, they were equipped with a wooden bat and a short dagger.

The leading man said, "I didn’t want to hurt you. If you don’t want to regret this later, be good and get into the car, right now! The knife in my hands isn’t for show!"

Hilla sneezed. She waved her hand, took out a piece of tissue, and blew her nose. She felt like her eyes were about to spill out along with the tears. Her watery eyes should have inspired men to pity her, but at that moment, it just caused them to feel chills down their spines.

"Stop talking. I am not going with you. Let’s finish this. I want to go home and sleep this off."

She had a cold, and she needed rest.

The men gritted their teeth, and the pair lunged at her. Hilla dodged the incoming dagger with a spin, but she was struck in the back by the wooden bat.

She was pissed. If her cold had not slowed her movements, she would not have been hit at all, considering she only had three opponents.

Hilla removed the high heels she wore and used the heel to hit one of the man’s elbow joints, which immediately made a loud "crack".

The other man was stunned. The bat in his hands was dropped, and he dared not take another step forward.

Was she even a woman? She was even scarier than a banshee! With just a few moves, she had already broken two men’s limbs.

The three men dropped everything and decided to run away, leaving Hilla holding her dizzy head in a hand. She said in resignation, "Could you at least move that boulder away before you leave...?"

But she had literally broken their arms and legs, how could they even move a boulder?

Not far away was Rigel Richards, who had rushed over and watched the entire scene quietly. He frowned.

He could not even play the hero and save the damsel in distress. The damsel’s ruthless performance had left him in awe.

When Hilla got home in a hurry, it was already dark. Orlenna was sitting on the sofa in the living room and when Hilla came in, she immediately went over and asked, "Why are you so late?"

"There was a boulder on the road, and I had to get people to clean it up."

Hilla replied casually, and Orlenna relaxed. After giving one or two instructions, Hilla returned to her room.

The crystal chandelier illuminated every corner of the room. Bruce Anderson was sleeping on the bed soundly. Hilla sat on the bed next to him and scoffed. As she hissed in pain, she removed her clothes.

There was a wound with fresh blood laying horizontally on her back, marring her slender and fair back. It was so beautiful that it was terrifying to look at!
