CHAPTER 77: I’M ALIVE BUT I DON’T WANT TO OPEN THE DOOR

They had talked till late at night. In the end, they were both tired and Hilla drifted off.

Holding Hilla in her arms with a sigh, Halle comforted her with gentle touching on her hair, "Sleep tight. I’ll be with you."

"Halle, it hurts!"

Hearing the whisper, Halle couldn’t help but pursed her lips and tightened her arms around Hilla. She coaxed softly, "I know, I know it."

Halle was also tired, but she couldn’t sleep well this night. After waking up, she saw Hilla standing on the balcony, leaning against the guardrail and looking down.

"What’s wrong? Why are you awake so early?"

Halle took a coat for her and looked down as Hilla did. The girl was secretly watching Bruce getting in the car.

"You are not the one who did something wrong. Why are you so scared? You don’t have to hide. If you have any questions, just go down and ask him."

"Halle, I don’t know how."

Hilla raised her head pitifully and curled her lips with a wronged expression on her face. Her swollen eyes were even worse after a night’s rest.

Halle sighed. After the car left, she pulled Hilla back to the room and asked her to sit on the bed. Then her comforting voice came up, "Wait here. I’ll go downstairs and get two eggs. You need the subsidence of swelling."

"Do I look bad?"

"Yes, so please stay here, or you may scare somebody to death."

She knew clearly that Hilla would probably prefer to stay alone as for now. Halle felt sorry but meantime helpless.

"Halle, I’m hungry. Can you bring me something to eat?"

Halle nodded. She had never seen Hilla being like this.

As soon as Halle left, Margaret came in and was amazed to see Hilla’s extremely swollen eyes.

"Wow, what happened? Was there a boxing game in the annual ball or something?"

The word "annual ball" just reminded Hilla of the memory last night. All of a sudden, tears fell over her eyes.

She found that she was so emotional that she could even keep on crying! "What’s up? Stop it. Has anyone bullied you? You are Mrs. Anderson. Besides, with

your skills, you shouldn’t be bullied. What is it?"

Margaret was so astonished that she hurriedly wiped Hilla’s tears. If she hadn’t seen it personally, she wouldn’t believe that Hilla would be like this.

Hearing Margaret’s words, Hilla couldn’t help but kept on sobbing. Meanwhile, she quavered, "Bruce ... is cheating on me!"

"What?"

Margaret’s eyes dilated with her face full of disbelief. Was that possible? Were they talking about Bruce?

But looking at Hilla’s sad face, she gradually became convinced.

There was no need for Hilla to lie. So Bruce did cheat on her?

You had gone too far, Bruce!

"Margaret, I’m so sad. I saw him hugging that girl, and they were first love."

"First love? You mean Riya is back?"

Margaret was more than surprised.

Hilla’s lips curled into a sneer, "Her name is Riya? A little bit old-fashioned."

Margaret thought, "Well ... That’s what you care about in such a bad mood? Her name is old-fashioned?"

"Actually, Bruce has broken up with her a long time ago."

"When?"

After thinking about it with her chin up, Margaret replied seriously, "Probably a month or two before Bruce had the car accident."

That was to say, Bruce might have married her before recovering from the breakup.

He was very likely to be in a deep relationship with Riya.

Now that Bruce had woken up and Riya had just returned, they were like the blazing fire meeting the dry wood!

Thinking of this, Hilla’s face instantly turned gloomy. She got up and pushed Margaret out of the room with sobbing, "I’m dumped, and I might get a divorce. I don’t feel well. Can you give me some space? I wanna stay alone."

Margaret struggled, "Let me help you. I am good at this, especially for girls being dumped. I am an expert of this."

Hilla sniffed and said in a hoarse voice with reddened eyes, "Just leave me alone. I don’t need comfort now. I want to get people punched. You’ll be my sandbag if you stay here."

Margaret shivered and patted Hilla on the shoulder, "Don’t be sad. As far as I know about Bruce, I don’t think that with his identity, he will go back with someone he once breaks up with, though he has only been in a relationship once. Moreover, you

are Mrs. Anderson and she is only a less-important ex-girlfriend."

"Thanks for comforting me, but I don’t want to talk about it anymore."

Hilla pursed her lips and directly drove Margaret out. When she was alone in the room, Bruce’s figure was everywhere. She just couldn’t get over the feeling of being dumped.

Lying on the bed, she started crying again.

She had to cry! Only in this way could she feel more comfortable!

Margaret bumped into Orlenna at the moment she came out of the room.

"Why hasn’t Hilla come out the whole morning? Is she feeling unwell again?"

In memory of Hilla’s pitiful look, Margaret nodded, "Not only physically, but mentally. She probably can’t get up now!"

Girls fallen out of love were all the same, whether in books or on TV. Well, emotional! Just like riding roller coasters!

To Margaret, things between Hilla and Bruce were just like some dramatic soap operas. She had better find some and see what was going to happen next...

It would definitely be a happy ending. So there was nothing to worry about.

At the time Orlenna heard about Hilla being sick, she was shocked and panicked.

The next minute, she pushed Margaret away.

"Why didn’t you tell me earlier? She is pregnant now. What if something happened to her? Hurry up and go get Horton ... Wait, it’s better to get her to the hospital right now!"

Orlenna rushed to Hilla’s room right after she finished while Margaret still stood in amazement, "Hilla is pregnant? But Bruce said it was fake."

...

Hilla had just turned Margaret away when there was another knock on her door.

"Why couldn’t they just leave me alone when I’m sad?" Hilla thought.

Hilla sobbed, "I’m alive but I don’t want to talk or open the door. Can you stop knocking?"

Orlenna looked concerned and then her voice came from outside the door, "Hilla, it’s me. Please open the door and let me see you."

"Mom, Hilla said she didn’t want to open the door."

Margaret stood beside Orlenna and reminded, but Orlenna rolled her eyes at Margaret in exasperation.

"You didn’t tell me about Hilla’s illness, and I’ll get even with you for this later."

"Why do you blame me for her illness? It is Bruce who made Hilla sick, not me."

Margaret only dared to mutter to herself because if Orlenna heard this, what Margaret received was not just an angry look.

Margaret thought Orlenna has had a strong bias toward Bruce since she was a child!

The door opened, and then Orlenna found that Hilla’s face was deathly pale and her eyes were bloodshot and puffy although Hilla deliberately tried to hush it up.

"My God, why are you so haggard in one night? Are you ill? If so, why don’t you tell me?"

Hilla said in a hoarse voice, "Mother, I’m fine."

Orlenna looked at Hilla with pity, "How can you be fine? Bruce is too careless. How can he leave you alone?"

Last night, Orlenna had thought that Bruce was considerate of Hilla because it was best not to have sex in the first trimester, but she didn’t expect Hilla’s condition to be so bad in one night.

Orlenna looked at Hilla and became more distressed and more anxious, especially when she remembered that Hilla was pregnant. Therefore, she held Hilla’s hand and said, "Be good. Let’s go to the hospital. What if something happened to your baby?"

"Baby?"

Hilla was stunned and looked at Orlenna with a strange look.

"Mother, are you mistaken? I didn’t..." Hilla hesitated.

"You don’t have to lie to me because I saw the folic acid in the kitchen. I know that you don’t want to have children so early, but shouldn’t you take good care of him when you are having a baby?"

When Hilla hesitated, Orlenna thought that it was because Hilla was young, thin-skinned, and not prepared to be a mother. Therefore, Orlenna thought Hilla would understand eventually if she could give Hilla lots of comfort.

Hearing the folic acid, Hilla suddenly thought of something and hurriedly said, "Mother, you have misunderstood. It isn’t mine."

"Who else needs to take folic acid other than you?"

"It’s not Hilla’s but mine!"

Halle stepped forward, holding the food that she had cooked for Hilla.

Noticing that Orlenna was holding Hilla’s hand, Halle stepped forward and said, "The folic acid is mine. I was feeling unwell two days ago, and then Hilla took me to the hospital. Dr. Hutt said that I needed to take some folic acid, so I bought that."

Orlenna believed Halle, and then she smiled and said, "It doesn’t matter. Not every woman who is pregnant needs to take folic acid. But I am still worried about you, so please go to the hospital with me."

"Mother, I’m not pregnant!"

Hilla pursed her lips and whispered. It was not good to lie to others and she has been feeling extremely guilty.

Hilla knew that Orlenna would be sad and angry after she said that, but she felt relieved.

Orlenna felt that the news was a bolt from the blue. She stood there in a daze. If Margaret had not supported her, she would have fallen.

"What? Are you not pregnant?

"How can you not be pregnant? That day..."

"I had no appetite that day, and Bruce and I didn’t...so I can’t be pregnant."

Hilla wanted to say that Bruce didn’t sleep with her, but she and Bruce were sleeping in the same room and the same bed.

...

Hilla felt her face reddening instantly when saying such things to Orlenna so bluntly.

"How is it possible? I have seen you guys... Well, you have lied to me."

Orlenna suddenly came to herself and became extremely depressed because the scene of her grandson flying off with wings was lingering in her mind.

Bruce and Hilla lied to her!

"Mother, I’m sorry. Bruce knew that I didn’t want to take those tonics, so he misled you."

Hilla’s voice was not loud, but Orlenna could hear it very clearly.

Orlenna trembled and felt this kind of thing is difficult. She held her head and waved, "I have a headache. Rita, quickly help me back to my room to take the blood-pressure pills."

Orlenna was so annoyed that her blood pressure was elevated.

Although Margaret was very dissatisfied with the name, she did not dare to argue with Orlenna right now. Therefore, she helped Orlenna back to her room.

Halle glanced at Hilla and comforted her, "Have something. Once you’re full, you won’t feel sad anymore."

Hilla looked at Halle again with teary eyes, bit her lips, and said in a hoarse voice, "What should I do? Even Orlenna doesn’t like me anymore."

In the television drama, those who married into the purple were doted on by their husband or mother-in-law. However, it seemed that Hilla was neither doted on Bruce nor Orlenna now.

"You are so cute. How could Orlenna dislike you? It ... is just a lot to take in for her for a while."

"Halle, don’t comfort me. Didn’t the Tysons give you a hard time for not having children?"

Halle screwed up her face and said, "You are different from me."

The Andersons were different from the Tysons either because the Tysons disliked Halle from the very beginning. After five years of marriage, Halle had discerned what kind of people the Tysons were. What was more, she had realized that even if she had a child in the Tyson’s, she would not be happy.

"Halle, I don’t want to stay here anymore. I want to go back to the countryside with you."

Halle frowned. She then lovingly stroked Hilla’s swollen face and smiled, "Okay, I’ll take you wherever you want to go. Be good and have something first. Only then will you have the energy to walk."

Hilla nodded, but she was filled with a sense of loss. Why did she feel even more upset when she thought of leaving Bruce?
