CHAPTER 91: A MAGIC WEAPON TO WIN A MAN’S HEART

Hilla’s words were filled with jealousy.

Halle smiled as she picked up Cookie, "You’re pretty enough. You don’t need to be independent, glamorous, or coquettish. Maybe you’re exactly Bruce’s type."

"Halle, people say that a woman who always acts like a spoiled child is the luckiest. I’m miserable, because I’ve never done that to my parents since I was young."

Hilla supported her chin with her hands, thinking about what she could do to change her situation.

Halle was amused when she heard Hilla muttering. "You didn’t do anything, and Bruce chased you all the way to the countryside. If you really show your charm, he would be willing to die for you."

"Halle, but he treats his first love well. They are still contacting each other. That woman’s father owns the Marley Group. Beautiful and charming, she is a famous socialite in River City. And she knows how to draw Bruce’s attention."

Hilla could never forget how Riya and Bruce hugged each other last time.

They were so close and well-matched, just like a couple. But Bruce had never done the same thing to her.

She was getting kind of jealous.

"But you’re the most famous socialite in River City, and you’re prettier than her."

"It’s different. She is Bruce’s first love!"

First love was the most unforgettable and the purest love. One could easily rekindle his past romance. It was like a wonderful dream waiting to be fulfilled!

Hilla felt very anxious. Seeing this, Halle realized Hilla had really fallen in love with Bruce. In the past, Hilla wouldn’t have cared so much about it. But now, Hilla felt especially insecure because of Bruce’s first love.

Only a young girl in love would feel insecure like this.

"Take it easy. How many people could marry their first love? You’re Bruce’s wife. There is nothing to be afraid of."

"I know what you mean. But many happy families are ruined by first love. I can’t take it lightly."

Hilla knew how to look out for herself.

Halle chuckled. "So you are very happy at the Anderson’s. Why did you have to follow me to the countryside? What if Bruce didn’t come to you?"

Hilla was pissed off. She thought Halle was wrong, but she didn’t know what to say. "Halle, why don’t you speak for me?"

Hilla hugged the pillow angrily and plunged his face into the pillow.

She felt out of breath.

"You’re very outstanding. I believe Bruce likes you, so you don’t need to worry about this kind of thing. If you are really afraid that he will go back to his old lover, you should ask him yourself." Halle explained.

"You want me to ask him?"

Hilla had lost her courage. What if she got an answer which she couldn’t accept?

"If you are curious, go and ask. It is better than being depressed. If he still loves Riya, you should leave him at once. The earlier, the better. Look at me. I’ve lost myself in these years bit by bit."

Halle did not regret the five years with Titus. She had grown a lot. But she hoped Hilla could make a wiser choice.

A woman’s youth was precious. She shouldn’t have wasted her precious five years on marriage without any hope.

Now she was reduced to this. And she didn’t blame anyone else.

After Hilla ended the video call with Halle, she calmed herself down and started to paint. When Bruce returned home, it was dark outside.

The house had lights on. Bruce got out of the car and saw the slender figure on the balcony at a glance.

Hilla was focused and graceful, like a narcissus growing in the water. She was shining in the bright light.

"Mrs. Anderson is such a beauty!"

When James got out of the car and followed Bruce’s gaze, he put on an envious smile.

Beautiful women would always draw men’s attention.

It would be easier for men to appreciate women’s beauty.

Bruce came to his senses. He gazed at James coldly and said in anger, "Does it have anything to do with you?"

James was stunned. Realizing Bruce was about to kick him away, he quickly shook his head.

"Nope."

If he dared to have anything to do with Mrs. Anderson, Bruce would definitely kill him.

"Don’t come here tomorrow!"

"Mr. Anderson..."

"I’ll drive Mrs. Anderson to the company myself."

Bruce said in a low voice. James was confused. Hilla was only an assistant of the design department. She didn’t need to go to the company tomorrow. Was Mr. Anderson looking for an excuse to fire him?

James regretted it. He promised he’d never look at Mrs. Anderson again! He wasn’t sure if he could keep his job.

As Hilla finished the painting, she had totally calmed down. Only by painting and making clothes could she feel relaxed.

Her worries had faded away. She loved the rose garden she had painted very much.

If possible, she could build one herself.

"Bruce, you’re back!"

When Bruce entered the house, Margaret greeted him warmly with a big smile. She was sitting in the living room, dressed up beautifully.

"Look at me. How do you like the color of my lipstick?"

Margaret pursed her lips and got close to Bruce full of expectation.

There weren’t many men in their family except for the driver and the butler.

Margaret could only ask Bruce for help.

Bruce frowned and pushed Margaret away. His gaze fell on the lipstick in her hand. It looked like the one he had given to Hilla yesterday.

"Where did it come from?"

"Hilla gave it to me. I warn you, we don’t have the tradition of divorce. If you dare to divorce Hilla, you will be kicked out of our family. Hilla will be my only sister-in-law."

Hearing the word ’Sister-in- law’, Bruce’s face softened. He looked down and said in a low voice, "She gave you a present. Why don’t you give her one in return?"

"She is my sister-in-law. Do I have to do that?"

Bruce nodded, "I knew it. I’ll pay it back for you."

After that, Bruce went straight upstairs. Margaret wanted to give Bruce a kiss. He did a great job today!

...

When Hilla finished her last stroke, Bruce opened the door.

Bruce stood at the door with his gaze falling on Hilla.

Hilla had mixed feelings. She thought she had calmed down after painting for a day, but now she felt quite emotional as she saw Bruce again.

She cared a lot about the relationship between him and Riya. Were women born to be petty?

"Why are you alone upstairs?"

Bruce took off the tie around his neck and walked over. He had loosened his shirt buttons. Compared to his usual meticulous and serious look, now he was casual and approachable.

Hilla put down the brush and color board as she avoided Bruce’s gaze. She said lightly, "It’s quiet here. I like to paint in a quiet environment."

She wasn’t painting portraits, so she didn’t need others around.

Bruce nodded. Noticing Hilla was in a mood, he said in a low voice, "What’s bothering you?"

It seemed to have something to do with him. When he gave the lipsticks to Hilla last night, she was really excited. But today she had given it to Margaret.

She was so capricious that he felt at a loss.

"I’m living a comfortable life here. What’s there to be unhappy about?"

Hilla forced a smile.

Seeing her weird smile, Bruce felt goosebumps all over his body. He grabbed Hilla’s wrist and pulled her into his arms, "I must have made you unhappy. Is it because I went to the company and left you alone today?"

"I’m fine to be alone!"

Hilla rolled her eyes. She was not one of those delicate and clingy little girls who could not leave their husbands all the time.

Bruce’s gaze swept across Hilla’s face.

He couldn’t figure it out. She was happy last night. But when he came home today, she had totally changed her attitude.

Women were difficult to understand.

"It’s my fault."

Bruce said in a low voice. No matter what had happened, men should always

apologize first.

As expected, Hilla’s face softened, but she still felt uncomfortable. When she thought of Riya, she felt like there was a thorn in her throat, which made her very annoyed.

"Please give me a chance to correct my mistakes. Tell me, what have I done wrong?"

Women could never criticize men with a low profile.

Hilla pursed her lips and found it hard to tell him the truth. She could only say, "I’m fine. My period is coming and I’m in a bad mood."

After that, she freed herself and ran out of the room.

What should she do? Bruce was gentle and patient, but she just could not be honest with him.

When Hilla went downstairs, she saw Margaret trying the lipsticks.

She felt pity for her lovely lipsticks.

She must have gone crazy to give this limited edition set to Margaret so generously. Her life in the Anderson family was very difficult. Bruce had not given her any pocket money for quite a few days.

The question was, even if she had money, she couldn’t buy this set of lipsticks elsewhere. Why did she have to make things difficult for herself just because she was jealous?

She realized what she had done was stupid.

"Hey, sister-in-law, look. I tried every color. This one is the most suitable for me."

Hilla looked at Margaret and nodded in distress. Women were so obsessed with lipsticks!

"What did you call me?"

Hilla came to her senses and blushed. She was shy, because this was the first time Margaret called her sister-in-law.

Margaret leaned on the sofa and whispered, "I’ve made it clear to Bruce. You’re my only sister-in-law. I won’t accept any other woman as his wife. Don’t worry. I’m on your side."

Hilla had saved her life once. For Margaret, Hilla was her angel. If Margaret was a man, she would definitely marry Hilla. "Are you really standing by my side?"

Hilla raised her eyebrows, feeling a little excited. She didn’t expect that Margaret trusted her so much.

"Of course, you saved my life. Even Bruce’s life is yours. He promised to repay your kindness."

"Why would I want his life?"

Hilla muttered in a low voice. Margaret held her lipstick box and sighed, "His life is yours, so he can only be yours."

"But Miss Marley..."

Hilla bit her lip. Well, she still cared.

Margaret patted Hilla on the shoulder after some serious thought. She said righteously, "Don’t worry. I’m going to have a deep discussion with Bruce now."

"What will you discuss?"

"His feelings about Riya. If he couldn’t let go, I will cut it off for you. If it won’t work

... I have a magic weapon for you!"

Margaret seemed sincere. Hilla started to think the box of lipsticks was worth it.

She leaned forward and asked, "What magic weapon?"

"Cry, cry out loud!"

Margaret pretended to be serious, "Bruce has always been afraid of girls crying. He became Riya’s boyfriend only because she knew how to cry. So you have to cry, and you must cry out loud. Trust me, Bruce will do whatever you want."

"Why?"

Was Bruce so kind that he could not see a girl cry?

She suddenly felt Bruce was a careful man. He must be very good at taking care of women.

Bruce was not very young. Generally speaking, a man of this age should be gentle.

Hilla was lost in thought. Margaret was planning to go upstairs with her little box, so she replied casually, "He found it annoying for women to cry, so he wanted them to shut up."

Hilla was stunned. Bruce found Riya annoying when she cried, so he became her boyfriend? It didn’t make sense.

After Margaret went upstairs, Hilla sat on the sofa, lost in deep thought. Should she cry or not?

What if she cried very ugly and Bruce became fed up with her?
