CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: PEOPLE AND DOGS ARE THE SAME

Audrey Sutton turned her head to observe Chloe Swift’s reaction; she seemed uninterested in the matter of the inheritance.

Her entire demeanor was melancholy, with furrowed brows that seemed etched with unresolved worries.

Shane Warner returned to her side, expressionless: "Let’s go, let’s head back."

He didn’t seem to be in a good mood, apparently displeased with his grandfather’s decision.

This was understandable, especially if it was true that Vincent Warner had killed Shane Warner’s brother to become the heir.

Shane naturally wished to reclaim everything that belonged to his brother, yet now he had to share his brother’s legacy with the one who murdered him. If it were her, she too would not be satisfied with such an outcome.

The party ended on a sour note; his family relations were far more complex than she imagined.

"Sorry for letting you see these distressing matters."

Audrey Sutton was a bit taken aback, looked up at him, and muttered, "It’s not as if you’ve only caused me one or two troublesome things."

Unexpectedly, she continued along with him, prompting Shane to laugh lightly: "Really?"

Seeing him smile, Audrey Sutton was momentarily captivated by his smile for two seconds before snapping back to reality. She changed the topic, saying, "Let’s go eat, I’m starving."

She felt she couldn’t be of much help to him; what she could do was try to help him let go of hatred and live a bit easier.

What worried Audrey Sutton more was that his grandfather’s health was deteriorating by the day, although they hadn’t formally drafted the will today, it had essentially been set.

Then after his grandfather passes, the moment the will is executed, does that also mean that their marriage would come to an end?

She feared she didn’t have much time to make Shane fall in love with her.

Thinking about this, the food in her mouth lost its flavor.

After the meal, Audrey Sutton absentmindedly sat in the car, not noticing that it wasn’t taking the route home.

When the car stopped, Audrey Sutton finally came to her senses.

"Want to come with me or wait in the car?"

Audrey Sutton seemed a bit confused but had already unbuckled her seatbelt and followed by pushing open the car door to step out.

In front of them was a pet hospital, and he walked in directly, with Audrey Sutton following closely behind.

"Here to pick up General?" A girl dressed in a nurse’s uniform walked over, holding a cat, which she placed in a cage nearby, then looked at Shane Warner and said, "I’ll go bring him out."

Audrey Sutton wasn’t sure if she was being petty, but she always carried a bit of hostility towards any woman who appeared around Shane Warner.

Seeing this little nurse who seemed familiar with him, Audrey Sutton deliberately moved a bit closer to Shane Warner, subtly asserting her claim.

"Who is General?" she looked up and asked him.

Shane Warner chuckled, yet before he could answer, the little nurse from earlier came out leading a Golden Retriever.

The Golden Retriever pulled on the leash, sprinting straight to Shane Warner, circling around his legs.

Shane Warner knelt down to stroke the dog’s head, taking the leash from the nurse’s hand, and said, "I’ve transferred the money to your boss."

The nurse nodded: "The boss told us. You see, General probably misses home; when you didn’t come to see him, he lay in his cage sullen and thought you didn’t want him anymore. Now that you’re here, he’s all lively again."

Shane Warner stood up, smiling: "Thank you for taking care of him during this time."

"No problem, General is very well-behaved."

As Audrey Sutton listened to their conversation, General sniffed around her.

She was a little afraid of large dogs, tentatively reaching out, wanting to pet him. General moved his nose closer to her hand, causing her to immediately pull her hand back and take a step back.

The nurse looked at Audrey Sutton, jokingly said: "General got a mommy now, huh."

Shane Warner glanced at Audrey Sutton sideways: "Looks like Mommy is a little scared."

Audrey Sutton blushed, circled around a bit, and reached for the leash in Shane Warner’s hand: "I’ll do it."

Shane Warner handed the leash over to her: "Let’s head back now."

"Alright, take care."

General knew the way home, heading in that direction as soon as they exited the hospital.

Shane Warner watched as Audrey Sutton was practically led away, unsure whether she was walking the dog or the dog was walking her.

He walked to the car, called out to General: "Over here."

General immediately turned, dragging Audrey Sutton towards the car.

As soon as the car door opened, he jumped in before Audrey Sutton, sitting obediently in the backseat, evidently familiar with everything.

The only thing unfamiliar was the woman sitting beside him.

Audrey Sutton had more experience with cats, and once, as a child, she had been bitten by a dog her grandfather raised on a farm. This made her somewhat fearful of large dogs like General.

After getting in the car, she sat close to the door, maintaining a considerable distance from General.

While starting the car, Shane Warner asked her, "Afraid of dogs?"

Audrey Sutton thought, since he liked dogs, she naturally had to follow suit, so she shook her head and said, "Not afraid... just haven’t had contact, I’ll be fine once I’m familiar."

"Mm, people and dogs are the same, once you’re familiarized you’ll be fine."

Audrey Sutton looked at him, puzzled, feeling that his words carried a double meaning.

He didn’t elaborate further, and she didn’t investigate more deeply.

As soon as the car stopped, General dashed out of the door, sprinting to the elevator door, wagging his tail, even standing up to press the elevator button on the wall.

Audrey Sutton, delighted, turned to Shane Warner, who had just locked the car and walked in, and said, "It can even press the elevator!"

Shane Warner, unsurprised, said, "I think it’s smarter than you."

Audrey Sutton retorted with a dismissive hum, "I’m smarter than you."

Shane Warner laughed silently, following her into the elevator.

Audrey Sutton: "Didn’t know you had a dog before."

Shane Warner: "There’s a lot you don’t know, plenty of time to learn and get familiar in the future."

Audrey Sutton glanced at him, then at the dog, lowering her head as she sneaked a smile.

When he said "there’s plenty of time in the future," did it mean he wasn’t planning to divorce her after his grandfather’s will was executed?

Back at the room, Audrey Sutton, who originally wanted to slack off, was urged by Laura Yates to get up from bed, check her comic data; there were no new messages, let alone votes or rewards.

Sighing, she tied her loose hair into a ponytail, mustered up the energy, and sat before her computer, picking up her stylus.

In the next room, Shane Warner, during his bath, opened the comic app where she published her work.

He wasn’t too interested in the stories about a rabbit turning into a man, just browsed through her comment section.

Every reader’s comment had her reply beneath it.

She didn’t have many fans. While others’ comics could garner thousands of comments in a day, hers might only have one or two, and those only appeared recently. Looking at the previous message times, sometimes only one new message a month or two.

But she was content, peacefully crafting stories from her heart, never contemplating giving up.

To encourage her, Shane Warner spent money on such apps for the first time, depositing ten thousand dollars to reward her with a million comic coins as a token of encouragement.
