CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: ACCOMPANY MY WIFE

Audrey Sutton glanced at Clarissa Morgan dancing elegantly on stage to the music, then craned her neck to stare at the back of Shane Warner.

He was heading straight toward the theater exit and hadn’t turned around once to watch Clarissa Morgan’s performance on stage.

Audrey, selfishly, liked this outcome, but she was also worried that despite Shane Warner saying nothing, he might secretly blame her for causing him to miss Clarissa Morgan’s live performance.

Clarissa Morgan’s performance had brought the audience to a new level of excitement.

Even if one didn’t understand ballet before or know what professional level meant, Clarissa Morgan’s looks and dance moves alone were a visual feast.

Barry Barrett recorded Clarissa Morgan’s performance from start to finish with her phone; she was never stingy with praise for beautiful things.

Audrey’s gaze did not leave the stage for a moment. Had it not been for past grievances with Clarissa Morgan, she might have been as captivated by her as Barry Barrett at this moment.

As the dance reached its end, Shane Warner returned.

He walked directly to Audrey’s side, worried that her dress might have been stained by blood, so he took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders, long enough to cover her dress fully.

He said to her gently, "I’ll accompany you to the restroom."

Audrey grabbed his coat and looked at the seat when she stood up. Thankfully, nothing had leaked through.

On the way to the restroom, Shane Warner said, "I don’t know which brand you usually use, the clerk recommended this one, just make do with it."

Audrey opened the bag and looked inside. Though it wasn’t her usual brand, it was perfectly fine for an emergency.

At the entrance of the ladies’ room, Shane Warner stopped and said to her, "I’ll wait for you outside."

Audrey nodded, hurriedly entering the restroom.

The hallway was quiet at this moment, and faintly, the sound from the stage’s speakers could still be heard outside.

Clarissa Morgan’s performance ended, and the host conducted a brief interview with her, expressing some good wishes for the school before introducing the next program.

Shane Warner glanced at his watch; it had been five minutes already, why hadn’t she come out yet?

He took out his phone from his pocket and sent Audrey a message: No paper in the restroom?

Soon, Audrey replied with a message: My stomach hurts, just squatting for a bit, you can go back first.

Shane Warner had only heard that girls could have menstrual cramps, but he had no experience in this regard and didn’t know what he could do for her.

He opened his browser and was preparing to search for answers when he heard the sound of women’s high heels gradually approaching.

"Shane." As he turned to look, Clarissa Morgan walked toward him.

She was still wearing the outfit from her performance, the ballet dress perfectly showcased her nearly flawless figure.

Shane Warner cast her a glance, and as Clarissa Morgan approached and stopped about half a meter away, she smiled and said, "I didn’t expect you to really come to see my performance."

"I’m here to accompany my wife." Shane Warner said with a light laugh.

Clarissa Morgan chuckled, "Shane, it’s sufficient to keep up appearances in front of others, but there’s no need in front of me; I understand your situation, marriage is just to deal with certain matters."

Shane Warner smiled faintly, "Don’t be so presumptuous."

"You still speak as bluntly as ever, quite heart-wrenching. But speaking of which, I always wondered what kind of girl you’d end up with, considered many possibilities, but never thought you’d marry a naïve young girl."

Shane Warner replied calmly, "I don’t know what kind of girl I like, I’m only sure that I dislike those who cling stubbornly."

Clarissa Morgan’s smile froze for a moment, then said, "You might have misunderstood me, I’ve returned this time intending to develop here, a foreign land never quite compares to home. Though I’ve always been unable to let go of you, now that you’re married, I sincerely wish you all the best, and I also have a partner. I just hope we can still be regular friends as we were, no one said that failed confessions mean we must never interact again, right?"

Both heard noises coming from the entrance to the ladies’ room, Clarissa Morgan glanced at Audrey Sutton, who was walking out of the restroom, and continued to look at Shane Warner without hiding anything, saying, "When I get married, I’ll send you an invitation."

After she spoke, Clarissa Morgan lifted her foot to cross Audrey Sutton, heading toward the restroom.

Audrey Sutton glanced at Shane Warner without saying anything, then turned thoughtfully toward the washbasin, and turned on the faucet.

Shane Warner walked over and asked, "Does your stomach still hurt?"

Audrey Sutton looked up through the mirror at him and honestly replied, "A little."

After she turned off the faucet, he drew a napkin from the holder on the wall and handed it to her, saying softly, "Should we go to the hospital?"

"No need," Audrey Sutton replied sullenly.

She threw the used napkin into the trash can, hesitated, and then asked him, "What did she just say to you?"

Having learned his lesson from last time, Shane Warner dared not recklessly invite trouble. Holding her wrist, he led her outside while saying, "She said she’s getting married and invited us to her wedding."

Audrey Sutton froze for a moment; this news was perhaps good news for her.

However, Clarissa Morgan didn’t seem like she had completely moved on from Shane Warner, as though they were a pair of star-crossed lovers, separated by reality and forced to marry others.

When she felt frustrated, she suddenly recalled Fifth Brother’s words.

Clarissa Morgan’s affection for him was her business; as long as Shane Warner had no interest in Clarissa Morgan, she should stay sensible and tied to him, rather than throw a tantrum over Clarissa Morgan.

Even though he could tolerate and placate her now, repeated occurrences would surely trouble him.

Thinking of these things, Audrey Sutton quickly adjusted her mindset, looking down at his hand holding her wrist, suddenly feeling much more at ease.

There was no need for her to trouble herself over Clarissa Morgan’s matters; now she was Shane Warner’s legitimately married wife. If anything, it was her right to trouble Clarissa Morgan, not to be led by her nose.

Watching Shane Warner lead her to the previous spot.

Audrey Sutton stopped, and he immediately halted, turning back to her, asking softly, "What’s wrong?"

"My stomach feels uncomfortable, I want to go home."

Shane Warner nodded, "Let’s go."

"...You’re not mad at me?"

"Hmm?" Shane Warner was puzzled by her remark.

Audrey Sutton pursed her lips, walking alongside him toward the exit, and looked up to say, "Because of me, you didn’t get to see Clarissa Morgan’s performance."

Upon hearing this, Shane Warner couldn’t help but smile, he didn’t explain much, simply responded mildly, "Who told you I came to watch her perform?"

Audrey Sutton: "Then why did you come over? If not to see her, then who? How many female schoolmates do you have?"

Shane Warner smiled quietly, while Audrey Sutton held her tongue, not daring to pursue the question further.

In her heart, she secretly vowed, regardless of how many female schoolmates there were, if any dared to have designs on her husband, she wouldn’t hold back!
