Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 378: Carry Me Upstairs
CHAPTER 378: CHAPTER 378: CARRY ME UPSTAIRS
At night.
Audrey Sutton sat at her desk rushing to meet her deadline, while Shane Warner was quite free tonight.
He wandered around the room for a while, feeling bored, but didn’t want to disturb her as she was seriously working on her drawings.
He quietly went downstairs, turned on the TV, and sat in front of it, though his thoughts were far from the TV program.
His mind was somewhat blank; he didn’t want to analyze too much or worry about trivial things, he simply wanted to spend his days well with her, taking it one day at a time.
Audrey finished this week’s draft and sent it to Laura Yates.
Seeing that it wasn’t too late yet, only eleven, earlier than she had imagined.
She shut down her computer, stretched in her seat, then bent down to find her slippers kicked under the desk, lifting her foot and walking downstairs.
Seeing Shane sitting on the sofa watching TV, their eyes met, Audrey smiled at him, and while descending the stairs she asked, "What are you watching?"
Shane didn’t answer, just looked at her. Audrey walked over to him and sat down beside him, and he naturally stretched his arm, pulling her into his embrace.
Audrey glanced at the TV screen, mumbling, "You’re watching the commercials so attentively."
Shane pointed at the remote on the coffee table with his chin, "Switch it yourself."
Audrey reached out, took the remote, and leaned against him, switching the TV channels.
From above came his gentle voice, "Finished drawing?"
Audrey nodded, "I actually could have finished it this afternoon."
Shane accordingly asked, "Then what did you do this afternoon?"
Audrey’s hand pausing on the remote for a moment, cursing her own big mouth, but quickly her brain turned on, saying, "I took a nap, so now I’m very lively."
"So should we not sleep tonight?"
Audrey glanced at him, "Why is your mind always on those things?"
Shane chuckled and said, "What things? I said I’d stay up all night watching TV with you."
Audrey scoffed, thinking that in the past she might have believed him.
She switched to a suspense drama channel she had been following recently, then put down the remote and nestled in Shane’s arms, saying, "Let’s just watch for a bit, then sleep."
The two lazily leaned on the sofa, the drama turning intense and thrilling, and in front of the TV, she couldn’t help but feel tense as well, tucking her feet onto the sofa, curling entirely within his arms, both fearful and entranced.
She watched intently and engrossed in the TV, whereas Shane’s attention was focused on her, enjoying the warmth of her nestling in his arms at that moment.
"Pfft—" In the silence, a sudden awkward noise was heard.
Shane frowned, looking down at her in his arms.
Audrey turned her head with a smile, saying, "It wasn’t me."
Shane looked at her with narrowed eyes, "Maybe it was me."
Audrey nodded seriously, then pretended to pinch her nose, saying, "Smell it yourself, it stinks."
Shane, too lazy to deal with her, smiled, thinking that when you like someone, even their fart seems cute.
"By the way, there’s another week left before the summer holidays. When will you be free?"
Shane replied, "I’ve got to go out of town in a couple of days, then abroad at the beginning of July. I need to free up time in August for the wedding, so July will be quite busy."
Audrey thought for a while and said, "Then I’ll wait until you go back together. I want to be with you."
Shane looked down at her, feeling that her words "I want to be with you" were expressed so naturally. Should he really doubt her?
Audrey, unaware of what Shane was thinking, kept her eyes glued to the TV, changing from a sitting to a lying position with her head resting on his lap, asking, "When is the wedding dress you ordered for me going to arrive? I want to try it on first, what if it doesn’t fit?"
"I asked today, it should arrive in a couple of days. It’s custom-made to your measurements, so how can it not fit."
Audrey smiled and said, "I’m worried about the style not fitting."
"You look good in any style."
"Oh, are you complimenting me?"
Shane said, "I mean, any style would look the same on you, there’s no need to fuss."
Audrey pursed her lips, giving him a sidelong glance, murmuring while watching TV, "You fell for my looks and won’t admit it."
Shane pinched her cheek, "You’re getting thicker-skinned."
Audrey teased, "Don’t they say that couples start to look alike after being together for a long time? Aren’t I getting more like you?"
Shane glanced at her, "Watch your TV, go to sleep at one."
Audrey rubbed her eyes, saying, "I’m already a bit sleepy now."
"Didn’t you say you napped this afternoon?"
"I was staring at the computer continuously while drawing, my eyes get tired too."
"Then what are you still lying down for? Turn off the TV and go upstairs to bed."
Audrey nudged her head into his embrace, grinning and saying, "I don’t want to move, you carry me upstairs."
"I’ll toss you out instead, never mind carrying you up."
Shane got up, prepared to reach for the remote to turn off the TV. Audrey thought he was leaving and hurriedly hooked her arms around his neck, clinging on stubbornly.
Shane glanced at her, saying, "I’m turning off the TV."
"Carry me and turn it off."
Shane smiled helplessly, sighed deeply, letting her cling to him, then stretched his arm to grab the remote, turned off the TV, and finally lifted her up by the waist.
Audrey contentedly hooked her arms around his neck, happily swinging her feet in his arms.
"Stop moving, you have no idea how heavy you are?"
Audrey stopped swinging her feet, jokingly looking at him, "Nonsense, I’m light as a feather. If you don’t hold me tight enough, I might get blown away by the wind."
Shane gave her a glare, walking to the wall light switch, his voice cold, "Turn off the lights."
Audrey looked around, realizing, reached out, and turned off the wall light.
As he carried her upstairs, Audrey asked, "Am I really that heavy?"
"What do you think?"
Audrey pouted and said, "If you can’t carry double digits, what’s the point of working out every day?"
"You’re only double digits? Is the unit kilograms?"
"Nonsense."
"Did I talk too much again? A lady shouldn’t be talking about farts."
Audrey raised her hand to hit him, "Can’t you just let me be right once? You always need to win an argument to be happy, right?"
Shane laughed and said, "Know your limits, why argue when you know you can’t win? An egg insisting on confronting a stone."
Audrey wanted to kick him, "Yes, you’re a stone, a stinky, hard stone."
"Hard?"
"You’re really annoying!" Audrey snapped, wriggling to get out of his arms as he had already placed her on the bed.
She huffed, wrapping the blanket entirely around herself, mumbling, "I don’t want to talk to you anymore."
