Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 380: There’s Definitely Something Fishy About This
CHAPTER 380: CHAPTER 380: THERE’S DEFINITELY SOMETHING FISHY ABOUT THIS
Audrey Sutton saw him not speaking and assumed he didn’t want to eat, because he had never had the habit of eating late-night snacks and opposed her eating them.
Audrey mumbled, "I knew you wouldn’t eat, but Mom insisted I come to call you."
Shane Warner stood up from the chair, walked over, and gently hugged Audrey Sutton, saying, "Who said I wouldn’t eat? Let’s go."
Audrey Sutton smiled satisfactorily, knowing he agreed just to keep everyone happy. If they were at home, he would surely start nagging her about how bad eating late-night snacks was.
Audrey Sutton took his arm and went downstairs. Everyone was gathered in the living room, making the rare occasion lively.
The late-night snack was plentiful, but what tempted Audrey Sutton most was the large basin of lobsters. Unfortunately, she was allergic to seafood and could only gnaw on a beef skewer in her hand.
Audrey Sutton looked at Shane Warner, who was sitting next to her, having sipped two mouthfuls of red wine, and asked, "Why aren’t you eating? This lobster is really delicious."
Shane Warner shot her a glance, saying, "I worry you’ll be tempted."
Audrey Sutton pouted, saying, "I can’t eat it, but you can. Why aren’t you eating?"
"I’m keeping you company."
Audrey Sutton smiled with pursed lips, offering her meat skewer to his mouth, expecting him to refuse, but he bowed his head and took a bite. She said, "I think you’re just lazy, don’t want to peel them."
Speaking, Audrey Sutton ate the last two pieces of meat from the skewer, grabbed a pair of disposable gloves, and reached into the basin for a big lobster, "I’ll peel it for you."
Shane Warner paused for a moment, quickly grabbing her hand, "I won’t eat it, no need to peel."
Holding a plate of grilled chicken wings, Hazel Yates walked out of the kitchen and urgently said, "You girl are being greedy again, right? I made you chicken wings, put down the shrimp!"
Audrey Sutton: "I’m peeling it for him, I’m not eating."
"You’re just using Shane as an excuse! Ask Norman to peel it, don’t hurt your hands."
Norman Sutton rolled his eyes, "Why should I peel? I barely have enough shrimp for myself!"
Audrey Sutton glared at Norman Sutton, "I don’t want you to peel it! I’ll peel it for him myself."
Shane Warner sighed, taking the half-peeled shrimp from her, "I’ll do it myself; go wash your hands."
He genuinely hadn’t planned to eat but letting Audrey Sutton peel shrimp for him in her parent’s home made it seem like he often made her serve him.
The shrimp shell was hard and not easy to peel; he was truly worried about hurting her hands.
Audrey Sutton quickly handed him two gloves, "Wear these for peeling; they’re all greasy."
"It’s fine, I’ll wash my hands later."
Greasy shrimp left oil on the hands. When others peeled them, it might look messy or even coarse, like Norman Sutton sitting across from them.
But Shane Warner peeled the shrimp shells slowly and steadily, appearing elegant.
He knew Audrey Sutton craved it. If she could eat it, he would surely be willing to peel it for her, but she didn’t have that fortune.
Audrey Sutton watched him push the shrimp meat into his mouth, her eyes gleaming. She asked, "Is it tasty?"
Shane Warner glanced at her, "It’s alright."
"Then... can I have one?"
Shane Warner gave her a sideways glance, "Ask your mom."
"Just one, just to taste."
Shane Warner saw the pleading written in her dark, deep eyes. He really couldn’t bear to reject her, but it wasn’t good for her. Remembering last time, he hardened his heart, coldly saying, "No."
Speaking, Shane Warner wiped his hands with a napkin and stuffed a chicken wing into her mouth.
Audrey Sutton gnawed on the chicken wing, watching Norman Sutton stuffing shrimp into his mouth one after another, purposely smacking his lips and repeatedly saying things like "so good, so fragrant."
Clearly, he was tempting her, knowing she couldn’t eat.
Audrey Sutton couldn’t be bothered watching Norman Sutton eat and grabbed a roast chicken leg, walking over to Franklin Sutton, who was eating skewers, drinking beer, and watching TV beside the sofa.
Trying to appear like she was watching TV with him, she quietly asked, "Second brother, how’s the investigation about that thing I asked last time?"
Franklin Sutton glanced towards the dining room, didn’t immediately reply to Audrey Sutton, but instructed, "Bring me a chicken leg too."
Audrey Sutton quickly stood up, ran to the table, grabbed a chicken leg, and handed it to Franklin Sutton, eagerly asking, "Did you find anything?"
Franklin Sutton looked at the TV, lowered his voice, "This matter definitely has something fishy."
Audrey Sutton moved a bit closer, hearing him continue, "Think about it, it’s so hard to check just a dossier, need to report to higher-ups—it’s a case from several years ago, if there’s nothing fishy, why would they manage it so tightly?"
"So, did you see anything or not?"
"Is there anything your second brother can’t handle?" Franklin Sutton boasted a bit, then said, "There’s nothing much to see in the dossier, because the things recorded might have already been carefully scrutinized, what clues should be left and what shouldn’t be left — it’s been all arranged clearly inside."
Audrey Sutton sighed deeply, feeling this matter increasingly troublesome.
"But one thing, it mentions the car involved in Sean Warner’s accident was Vincent Warner’s car."
Franklin Sutton’s words suddenly enlightened Audrey Sutton, "Right, I forgot this. At that time, Vincent Warner also told me that the person who designed all this might originally intend to kill him, but by mistake, it became Sean Warner."
"Then this has nothing to do with the eldest brother? That person told you the eldest brother’s rival in love was Sean Warner. If it’s a scheme, how could one plan so perfectly, making a move on Vincent Warner’s car, knowing Sean Warner would drive Vincent’s car?"
Audrey Sutton also found this matter strange, but what that person told her matched a lot — it didn’t seem completely fabricated.
Furthermore, with these clues, Shane Warner could entirely suspect Vincent Warner and her eldest brother colluded, still not resolving the potential emotional crisis she might face with Shane.
Audrey Sutton thought deeply, "Looks like we need to figure out why Sean was driving Vincent’s car at that time; surely there are many details still missing. I’ll find a chance to ask Vincent."
Franklin Sutton secretly motioned with his chin towards Stephen Sutton, whispering, "Isn’t there an involved party right here?"
"No, how could we let eldest brother know we’re suspecting and investigating him? Moreover, the video said eldest brother wasn’t at the scene, need to specifically ask Vincent Warner for details."
As Stephen Sutton walked over, the two immediately ceased their conversation, pretending to watch TV intently.
