Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 385: Are You Thinking of Getting a Divorce?
CHAPTER 385: CHAPTER 385: ARE YOU THINKING OF GETTING A DIVORCE?
After Shane Warner went upstairs, he took out the phone from his pocket and glanced at it. It was a message from Lucian Quinn: Master Shane, shall I change the flight to this afternoon? You should get some rest.
Looking at the message, Shane Warner paused for a moment before replying: No need, I can sleep on the plane.
Lucian didn’t know if there was some sort of rift between the couple, but he didn’t ask much and just did as Shane wanted.
The bathtub was filled with water. Shane Warner leaned against the edge with his eyes closed, as if he had fallen asleep in there.
He rarely used the bathtub, usually finishing his showers within a few minutes.
Soaking like this did make him feel a lot more relaxed.
The warm water made everything smoky and the view hazy.
In his mind, he recalled bits and pieces of the past year with Audrey Sutton.
She had brought many changes to his life and had changed him a great deal as well.
The time spent with her was arguably the happiest days he had experienced in nearly thirty years.
But remembering the moment she suddenly appeared at his wedding, he couldn’t figure out if it was coincidence or a well-planned scheme by her and Vincent Warner.
While on a business trip, he came across an email from Lan Irving.
In the email, Lan mentioned noticing that Audrey Sutton had been seeing Vincent Warner frequently, advising him to be careful and not to follow his brother’s path.
The email also mentioned the possibility that Stephen Sutton and Vincent Warner might have colluded back then to kill his brother. Years later, the two of them could easily have planted Audrey Sutton by his side to stage a grand scheme and seize the entire Warner Group for themselves...
In fact, Shane had already considered these things even before Lan Irving had reached out to him.
Back then, his brother had an accident because he went to pick up a friend, which Shane found out during the investigation post-accident. However, he didn’t know that the "friend" was Stephen Sutton.
So, he began to feel doubtful and torn, struggling internally.
He wanted to go on with Audrey Sutton regardless of everything, even if this happiness might not last long.
But whenever he touched the silver ring on his index finger, he felt like letting go of the romantic entanglements and returning to being the old Shane Warner, to reclaim everything that belonged to his brother...
He heard footsteps outside the room, then saw a shadow standing outside the frosted glass door of the bathroom.
She was standing by the door, seemingly conflicted over something. After a long pause, her voice finally reached him: "...You’re back, right?"
She had noticed the extra blanket on her upon waking and realized he had returned.
There was no response from Shane Warner in the bathroom, but there were faint sounds from within, so Audrey Sutton just stood by the door waiting for him.
Shane Warner put on a bathrobe and opened the door, immediately meeting her teary eyes and slightly trembling lips, but she hesitated to speak.
Seeing his cold and silent demeanor for a few seconds, Audrey Sutton’s tears couldn’t help but fall.
Shane Warner frowned slightly, raised his hand to wipe her tears, but didn’t know what to say to comfort her.
Suddenly, she buried herself in his arms, holding him tightly with small hands, crying uncontrollably: "What’s wrong with you? Why are you ignoring me..."
Shane Warner raised his hand, originally intending to hold her into his arms, but his hand froze in place and then dropped back as he watched her cry her heart out.
Her tears soaked his chest, as if they flowed into his heart, making his already unsettled heart even more tumultuous.
The phone rang at an inopportune moment, and she heard it too. Despite her grievances, she let go of him sensibly, glanced at him, and then at the phone ringing on the bed, slightly stepping aside.
Shane Warner walked to the bed, bent over, and picked up the phone.
He heard the voice on the other end: "Uh-huh, come over, I just need to pack a few clothes."
After hanging up the phone, he went to the wardrobe and started packing clothes into a suitcase.
Audrey Sutton walked over and asked, "Are you moving out?"
Still crying a bit, her voice sounded muffled.
Shane Warner lowered his head and folded clothes into the suitcase, replying indifferently: "Going abroad for a business trip."
"Are you deliberately avoiding me?"
Shane Warner quickly packed a few clothes, closed the suitcase, and stood up, saying to her, "Get some sleep, it’s almost dawn, you still have to go to school that day."
Audrey Sutton sniffled and asked him, "How can I sleep with you like this?"
Shane Warner took a deep breath and said, after getting ready to leave, "I’m a little tired lately, let’s talk when I get back from abroad."
With that, Shane Warner carried the suitcase and headed downstairs.
Audrey Sutton trotted after him, standing by the stairs, calling out to Shane Warner who was halfway down, "Are you thinking of getting a divorce?"
Shane Warner’s footsteps suddenly stopped, he slowly turned around and looked at her, the words "divorce" seemed like a sharp blade piercing into his heart.
After she asked the question, she bit her lip, tears falling even more fiercely.
Shane Warner couldn’t bear to look at her like this, so he turned away cruelly, continued walking downstairs, saying softly as he went, "I have to go to the airport, you should get some rest."
Watching him walk down the stairs without looking back, Audrey Sutton took a deep breath, listening to the car outside, and chased after him without much thought.
Lucian Quinn had come to pick up Shane Warner, and when she reached outside, she saw Shane getting into the passenger seat just as Lucian finished loading his suitcase into the trunk, closed it, and was about to walk around to the driver’s side when he first saw Audrey standing in her pajamas at the door, watching them.
Lucian stopped in his tracks; even under the dim street lamps, he could tell Audrey had been crying.
He glanced at Audrey, then at Shane who was already inside the car.
Acknowledging Audrey with a nod, he then walked to the driver’s seat.
After fastening the seatbelt, Lucian didn’t drive off immediately. He glanced at the rearview mirror where he could see Audrey wiping her tears with her hand, then turned his head slightly to look at Shane, noticing that Shane too was looking in the rearview mirror at the girl standing there.
"Shane... maybe you should comfort her first? I’ll wait for you at the corner outside."
Shane Warner fingered the ring on his left index finger silently. Comfort... he didn’t know how to do that in such a complex mood.
He even began to have a twisted thought: Was this her true feelings at this moment or her acting skill?
He was afraid that staying now would only hurt her more.
"Let’s go."
Lucian pressed his lips together, wanting to say something but ultimately staying quiet, started the engine slowly and drove out of the courtyard...
Audrey didn’t chase after them, she just stood there, watching the car as it left the yard, and her suppressed sobbing finally broke out.
Squatting on the ground, she cried so hard she dry-heaved, silently wiping away the tears that wouldn’t stop falling, then turned and went back inside...
