CHAPTER 391: CHAPTER 391: THE MAN WHO LOVES HER

Audrey Sutton heard his name, and her tears fell even more intensely.

Norman Sutton was stunned, holding the phone unsure of what to do for a moment.

He hesitated, thinking Audrey was blaming him, and hesitantly brought the phone to her ear, but she turned her head away, clearly not wanting to take the call.

Norman thought she wasn’t fully awake yet and repeated, "It’s your husband calling."

Audrey replied in a muffled voice, "I don’t want to talk to him."

Norman was taken aback, and their grandmother quickly gestured to him, suggesting he follow Audrey’s wishes.

Norman had no choice but to walk away with the phone, feeling somewhat puzzled. He understood why Audrey might be upset with him, but why didn’t she want to take Shane’s call?

Outside the ward, Norman finally spoke to the person on the other end of the line, "She just woke up, so she might not be in a good mood. I’ll call you back once she’s calmed down."

Shane Warner gave a muffled "Mm."

After hanging up, Shane sighed deeply.

He heard her response and had somewhat expected it.

Hazel Yates and the others had finished their flight and were similarly delayed at the port due to the weather.

They found a hotel to stay at, and Hazel Yates was so worried she couldn’t sleep all night.

Shane Warner stayed up all night, standing by the window watching the rain outside.

The weather forecast showed that the rain and wind would weaken tomorrow, and the ship should be able to resume operation.

Early in the morning, Shane headed to the port, catching the first available ship.

Onboard, he met Audrey’s family, including her parents, elder brother, third brother, and fourth brother.

Her second and fifth brothers couldn’t make it due to work commitments.

None of them knew about the cold war between Audrey and Shane recently. On the ship, Hazel Yates was comforting Shane about the child, even though she herself was heartbroken for her daughter and the unborn child who hadn’t had the chance to see the world.

Upon reaching the hospital, they coincidentally met Norman Sutton, who was delivering food to the hospital.

Everyone’s mood was quite low. Outside the ward, they noticed Audrey seemed to be asleep.

Norman whispered, "Maybe you should let her sleep a bit longer. She cried all night yesterday and barely slept."

Hazel Yates leaning by the window near the door, looked at her precious daughter lying on the hospital bed so frail and exhausted, almost unable to hold back her tears.

Samuel Sutton held her shoulder, silently comforting her.

Shane Warner stood quietly beside them, feeling quite anxious.

He was afraid Audrey didn’t want to see him, and he wasn’t sure how to face her.

After such an incident, a simple "I’m sorry" seemed so weak.

"She’s awake," Hazel Yates whispered.

Then everyone crowded by the window.

Audrey wasn’t asleep at all. She heard the commotion outside and opened her eyes to see several heads near the window on the ward’s door.

Hazel Yates reached for the thermos bucket in Norman Sutton’s hand and said softly, "It’s better if we don’t all go in right now. I’ll go in first and give her some food."

Everyone was worried about Audrey but was also being cautious, fearing to cause any further emotional distress for her.

Hazel Yates entered the ward with the thermos cup, gently closed the door, leaving the curious family members outside.

"Daughter," Hazel Yates smiled, trying to appear relaxed, not wanting to bring any more pessimistic emotions to Audrey.

Hazel Yates sat by the bed, opened the thermos bucket she had, and said gently, "Look, Grandma made chicken soup for you; it smells delicious. Get up and have a taste."

Audrey turned her side, her back facing Hazel Yates, not wanting her mom to see her crying. With a slightly choked voice, she said, "Mom, I can’t eat."

Hazel Yates: "I know you’re feeling bad, but you need to take care of your health. Come, get up and have some soup."

Audrey bit her lip tightly, afraid of crying out loud, and pulled the blanket a bit higher.

Seeing her daughter like this, Hazel Yates’s eyes also started to moisten. She put down the thermos bucket and gently patted Audrey’s shoulder through the blanket, saying, "I know you’re feeling bad. I’ve been through similar stuff too; crying for ages and couldn’t recover."

"Back then, your dad stayed with me every day, taking me out to relax. I thought, there’s someone so in love with me beside me, I should live well for him and not let him worry about me all the time."

"Shane is outside, and when he heard about you, he rushed over. It rained yesterday, and the ship service was suspended at the port, so we only got here today. He stayed anxiously all night without sleep, looking very tired."

Hearing this, Audrey cried even more intensely.

She thought if she had a man who loved her like her mom did, she might not feel so sad right now.

Hazel Yates saw her getting more upset after mentioning Shane, so she stood up and said, "I’ll call Shane in to keep you company."

Saying that, Hazel Yates walked outside the ward and told Shane Warner, "You go comfort her; at least let her eat something."

Shane Warner nodded, but he was uncertain inside.

If none of these things had happened during this time, he might have been more confident that he could coax her into eating.

Now he was worried that he might be chased out of the ward by Audrey.

Forcing himself to go into the ward, he saw her curled up in the hospital bed, just a small figure crying softly under the blanket.

In the quiet ward, her muffled sobs could be heard, and seeing her like this, Shane Warner felt a tug at his heart.

Slowly walking to the bedside, he sat down, looked at her, opened his mouth but couldn’t say anything.

Audrey knew he came in but still turned her back to him, not sparing him a glance.

Shane Warner remained silent, lay beside her, and enclosed her in his arms through the blanket.

With difficulty, he whispered in a hoarse voice, "I’m sorry."

Audrey bit her hand hard, sobbing uncontrollably.

Shane Warner reached out, gently turning her body around, and she looked at him with eyes red from crying.

That look shocked Shane Warner, filled with resentment, determination, indifference, and reluctance...

Each feeling was unfamiliar to him.

Because in his memory, she always smiled with eyes filled with joy.

The words he wanted to say seemed stuck in his throat, unsure of how to begin.

He just silently wiped her tears, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t wipe them all away.

She pushed him away, pulled the blanket up, and hid completely under the covers.

Her sobs sounding more suppressed than before.

Shane Warner frowned and sighed softly, his voice as gentle as possible, "I know you’re mad at me, but don’t harm yourself by not eating. Get up and eat some food, please."
