CHAPTER 399: CHAPTER 399: I’M NOT EASY TO WIN OVER

Audrey Sutton let out another cold laugh: "There’s a bunch of handsome young guys out there, why would I stay widowed with your enormous inheritance?"

Shane Warner pinched her cheeks lightly: "Audrey Sutton, it seems like you need a little discipline."

Audrey Sutton smacked his hand away with her eyebrows furrowed: "Don’t touch me, get out."

Shane Warner didn’t budge. His gaze locked onto her cherry-red lips, and he gently grasped the junction of her neck and jaw, tilting her head back slightly, and suddenly, he captured her lips...

Audrey Sutton’s eyes widened, and her mind was blank and numb at that moment.

His kiss came fiercely, as if he was channeling all his longing for her during this time into the kiss...

As Audrey Sutton came to her senses and tried to push him away with a turned hand, he intensified his grip and the power of the kiss.

Only when she was breathless and panting did he release her, looking at her with a hint of amusement, asking: "Did you miss me?"

Audrey Sutton stood up from the chair, pushed him from behind toward the door: "Get out, don’t bother me!"

He didn’t use his strength to resist her, going along with her push as he walked towards the door: "I missed you."

As soon as he finished speaking, she noticeably hesitated in her actions.

Shane Warner paused, turned around to look at her stunned expression, then pulled her into a tight embrace and hoarsely whispered in her ear: "I missed you, Audrey."

Audrey Sutton’s nose tingled, her eyes began to redden, half touched, half aggrieved, she paused before pushing him with her hand, her voice slightly choking: "Where were you earlier?"

"I’m sorry." He tightened his grip, and she stopped struggling and stayed silent, soon he felt a warm wetness soaking through his thin shirt.

He took a deep breath and clung to her tightly: "I know you’re upset with me, once you’re better, you can punish me however you want. But for now, can I stay by your side and take care of you?"

The grievances and resentment suppressed in Audrey Sutton’s heart seemed to surge out, and she sobbed uncontrollably, her fists pounding on his chest, though the force didn’t hurt him, seeing her like this ached his heart.

"Why are you like this? What good is punishment..." she cried, her heart harbored resentment towards him, yet she couldn’t bear to utter the words "the child is gone."

She knew the child wasn’t just her pain, so she didn’t want to place all the blame on him, nor did she want to see him guilt-ridden because of the child.

Shane Warner released her, gently wiping her tears with his thumb: "Have you forgiven me?"

Audrey Sutton sniffed, turned away and wiped with the back of her hand, muttering: "No."

Finally, she raised her eyes, furrowed brows, and questioned him: "What makes you think I’d forgive you for sure?"

Before Shane Warner could answer, she continued: "Even if I love you, my heart gets hurt, I get tired, and I get sad. Love can be worn out one day, you know?"

Shane Warner nodded: "I understand, don’t cry anymore, I promise I won’t let you suffer any grievances in the future."

Without thinking, she said: "I don’t believe you."

"It doesn’t matter if you believe it or not, let time be the judge."

"You say nice things now, but once I’m back, you’ll turn cold and distant again. If you don’t think I’m good, if you don’t want to be with me, just say it, don’t disappear. If you do this again, I’ll just wait at the Civil Affairs Bureau for a divorce."

Shane Warner smiled and asked: "So you’re forgiving me this time? Not divorcing?"

Audrey Sutton sniffled, walked over to the table, took a tissue, and wiped her face: "Who said that? I’m just reserving judgment now, depending on your performance. If you do well, I might forgive you this one time. If not, I’ll divorce directly."

Shane Warner nodded: "Okay, it’s like we aren’t married yet, let me pursue you again."

Audrey Sutton snorted, muttering: "I’m not easy to pursue."

Shane Warner laughed, reached out to tidy her slightly messy hair by her ear: "How would you know if you don’t try?"

Audrey Sutton rolled her eyes, dodged his hand: "Haven’t even pursued me yet, and you’re already touching, back off! Go down by yourself."

Shane Warner chuckled, withdrew his hand, and asked: "In a few days, will you be able to go out again?"

She replied, muffled: "Mmh."

"Then we can have a date then. What do you want for lunch? I’ll make it for you."

"I don’t want to eat what you make."

Shane Warner smiled: "Alright, tell me when you do want it, and I’ll make it for you then."

Audrey Sutton didn’t reply, walked to the full-length mirror adjusting the hair clip on her ear.

"Shall I go down?"

Audrey Sutton still did not respond.

Shane Warner stood by the door for a few seconds, watched her finish fixing her hair clip, and turned to look at him like she was silently asking why he hadn’t left yet.

He looked at her and said: "Nice to meet you, Miss Sutton."

Audrey Sutton froze, and he smiled, softly closing her door, and turned to head downstairs.

She stared at the door for a couple of seconds before a smile emerged on her face.

He said he would pursue her, and she already started looking forward to how he would do it.

Does he even know how to pursue someone?

Could it be he’ll just stubbornly cling to her every day?

Audrey Sutton rolled onto the large bed, hugging the half-human-sized Pikachu plush, happily swinging her legs.

Hearing noise from the parking lot outside, Audrey Sutton quickly got off the bed and ran to the window, seeing Shane Warner get into the car he drove last time and left. She wondered what he was going out to do.

At noon, when her mom brought her lunch, she heard her mother say: "Did you not let Shane stay here?"

Audrey Sutton paused, thinking she hadn’t said anything this time. Her brothers had returned to Rivia, so there were plenty of empty rooms he could stay in, she wouldn’t oppose.

After all, he wouldn’t go far.

"So many days have passed, and I can see that Shane is sincere, working so hard yet making time to accompany you, and yet you don’t cherish it. Don’t grind away his patience until he leaves you; then you’ll have no way out."

Audrey Sutton took a sip from the bowl of soup and said: "If this is all the patience he has, why should I stay married? Mom, this is between him and me, we’ll handle it, don’t interfere. Also, stop asking him to come over for dinner, or people will think your daughter is unwanted, afraid he’ll run off."

Hazel Yates raised a hand and lightly knocked on her head: "Aside from Shane having the patience to appease you, I doubt anyone else would want you!"
