CHAPTER 415: CHAPTER 415: BREAKING UP IS FOR THE BEST

It’s not that the economic disparity between the two made Flora back off, after all, her previous partners weren’t bad in economic terms either.

But Lucian’s wealth was different from the ordinary; he had a special aura that made Flora feel this man wasn’t someone an ordinary person like her could get involved with.

"School’s about to start, right?" Lucian handed Flora a cup of tea while asking.

Flora smiled as she accepted the glass, nodding slightly, with a hint of reservation: "Mm, two more days."

"I heard you’re studying broadcasting?"

Flora nodded, her smile somewhat awkward.

Lucian: "Then working in sales at the store might be a waste. Haven’t you thought about finding a job that aligns with your field?"

Flora chuckled dryly, replying: "I did look, but with little experience, they usually start with internships, and interns don’t earn much. I’m mainly looking to make some money to support myself now, then I’ll pursue a field-related job after graduation, hopefully with some savings accrued."

Lucian nodded thoughtfully, curious about her family situation but did not mention it, instead saying: "I have a friend in radio drama production. If you’re interested, I can give you his contact info, you could give it a try."

Saying this, Lucian took out his phone, telling her: "Let me add you first, then I’ll share his contact."

Flora had seen all sorts of pick-up techniques and noticed that Lucian seemed genuinely interested in her, as he wanted her contact info.

If he truly just wanted to introduce his friend in radio drama, he could directly give her that person’s WhatsApp, no need to circuitously have her add his first.

Lucian handed over his QR code to her, with a proper demeanor as if without any selfish motives, saying to Flora: "Radio dramas are quite popular now; if you get comfortable with it, the salary can be much higher than working in sales."

The reasoning seemed entirely considerate of her future, and out of politeness, Flora couldn’t refuse his goodwill, thus she used her phone to scan his QR code, adding him as a friend.

Audrey nudged Seraphina with her elbow subtly, signaling her to look at Flora and Lucian.

Just catching the two of them looking down at their phones, chatting softly, Seraphina and Audrey exchanged smiles, saying simultaneously: "There’s something there."

The crowd wasn’t socially awkward or introverted; they had all met at Audrey’s wedding, sharing a table and engaging in lively conversation.

Though Morgan is often rough around the edges outside, he didn’t act inappropriately among friends.

Audrey chatted with Shane over dinner; he was currently dining out.

Unlike before, he mentioned missing her.

He couldn’t specify the exact day he’d return but assured he’d be back before school starts to personally send her off.

Audrey had really wanted to join him on his business trips, going wherever he went, since she could work with her computer in tow anyway, but feared she might disrupt his work if she did.

Most importantly, his mind was preoccupied with certain matters during this period; she worried about lacking rest if she accompanied him.

These two days before school provided the perfect opportunity to rest well.

After dining, Lucian drove a few of them home.

Seemingly with a strategic mindset, he dropped Barry and Seraphina off at the dorms, then Audrey at her house, finally Flora.

The school was pretty close to where Flora lived; Lucian’s roundabout driving revealed intentions that were clear without being stated.

Flora was aware, thus when her girlfriends had alighted, leaving her alone, she sat uneasily in the car.

Even recognized as an expert in flirtation, Flora found herself awkward before Lucian.

Uncertain of how to engage in conversation, she simply turned to look outside, hoping the destination would come soon.

While peering out the window, a familiar figure met her eyes on the roadside.

The car slowed as it queued for the traffic light.

She retrieved her phone, snapping a photo of Clarissa and a masked man standing by the curb.

"What are you photographing?" Lucian queried lightly.

Feeling inexplicably guilty, Flora swiftly put away her phone, forcing a smile: "Nothing, just taking random shots."

Lucian: "I see it’s still early; care for a walk by the river?"

Flora glanced sideways at Lucian, wondering what kind of charming enigma he was—a man who could flirt so uprightly.

"... No, I still need to wash the clothes I changed out of this morning."

"Was that guy who often hangs out with you your boyfriend?" Even with such a personal question, his tone seemed merely conversational.

"Ah?... Mm." Flora felt flustered, unsure what she was saying. The backstory was lengthy and unclear, yet she preferred not to elaborate with Lucian, so she merely responded with a "Mm."

With the green light on, the cars ahead moved, and Lucian followed slowly with the traffic, saying: "I noticed you two haven’t been together lately."

Flora took another glance at Lucian—was he secretly observing her? How did he know so much?

Without Flora’s reply, Lucian asked: "Broken up?"

"... Mm."

Conversing with Lucian felt akin to going home for the New Year, encountering one’s nosy relatives.

They posed questions she didn’t want to answer, yet she had to remain polite.

"That’s good." he said.

Flora twitched slightly, finding him odd. People usually express regret over a breakup, but he concluded with "That’s good."

"Actually, I wanted to tell you before, I happened to see him privately with another woman, so breaking up was for the best."

Flora was briefly stunned, but remained silent.

She only knew their personalities clashed, unaware of any two-timing.

Yet it was no longer significant; she hadn’t genuinely fallen for him, plus they were already separated.

"We’re here."

Turning toward the window, Flora felt instantly relieved.

As the car idled by the roadside beneath her building, she stepped out, still courteously thanking Lucian.

"Need me to escort you upstairs?"

Flora paused, quickly gesturing negatively: "No need, you go home early."

With those words, Flora strode into the building without looking back.

Standing in the elevator, as the doors slowly closed, she saw his car still parked outside.

For some reason, her heart raced endlessly within her chest.

This reaction typical of a young girl—how could it happen to her?

Utterly embarrassing.
