Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 493: Letting Go and Forgiving
CHAPTER 493: CHAPTER 493: LETTING GO AND FORGIVING
Audrey Sutton thinks that spending a long time with certain people can skew your personality.
Her older brother has always been a stable person, and she never imagined in her wildest dreams that a flash marriage would ever happen to him.
Perhaps only Phoebe King could prompt him to do something so crazy.
But ultimately, it’s a great thing, and it hasn’t let Phoebe King down after all her suffering.
After finishing her meal, Audrey Sutton lay on her bed lazily.
The cold weather these days makes her just want to stay under her blanket and not go anywhere.
While watching a new series, Shane Warner sent a message asking if she’d had breakfast yet. Audrey Sutton, fearing he’d nag her, lied and said she did. Then, she arranged a place for lunch and told her to wait for him to join her.
In the skyscraper, through the floor-to-ceiling windows, it seemed as if the entire city could be seen.
Today’s weather was gloomy, and a light rain began to fall outside the window.
Shane Warner stood by the window, trying to relax to lessen his cigarette cravings.
"Knock, knock—" After the knock on the door, Mor pushed the door open and entered, "Shane, here are the materials organized from the meeting. Take a look when you have time."
Shane Warner nodded, "Okay, just put it on the table."
Mor continued, "Also, Vincent Warner’s secretary said he wanted to talk to you and asked if you could join him for lunch."
Shane Warner pondered for a moment and asked, "Did he say what it was about?"
Mor shook his head.
Shane Warner thought for a moment and said, "Tell him I can’t make it at noon; I’ll go to his office in the afternoon."
Mor replied, "Okay."
Shane Warner asked, "What’s happening with Faye Xavier?"
Mor said, "Still at the hospital getting IV fluids; it should just be a seasonal cold."
Shane Warner instructed, "Go check on her at the hospital this afternoon, hand your tasks to the assistant."
Mor replied, "Got it, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go take care of it."
Shane Warner said, "Mm."
Why was Vincent Warner asking him to lunch? For what?
Although they worked in the same company, they almost never saw each other. If there was anything, Shane Warner would have Mor deliver the message.
Vincent Warner also knew Shane Warner didn’t want to see him, so he never tried to appear in front of Shane Warner on purpose. Except for necessary meetings where both would show up, they were rarely seen together otherwise.
In the past, Shane Warner would not only refuse Vincent Warner’s invitation, but also wouldn’t bother to see him in the afternoon. He felt there was nothing to talk about; work matters could be passed along through their secretaries or assistants, and personal matters... they didn’t have any.
This time, after hesitating, the main reason he agreed to see him in the afternoon was likely because of Audrey Sutton.
Though she had no direct impact on the matter, her presence led him to slowly learn to let go and forgive, to not hold grudges while living in the past, and instead focus on how to better live for tomorrow.
Furthermore, he had also learned about Franklin Sutton’s investigation, which further ruled out Vincent Warner’s involvement the more it progressed.
He didn’t know what the truth was, but he was now willing to believe there might be another possibility to the matter.
At noon, Shane Warner got off work early to drive to the school to pick up Audrey Sutton.
Recently, Audrey Sutton found herself seeing food and lacking appetite, yet feeling constantly hungry.
Shane Warner arrived at the dormitory building by eleven, and Audrey Sutton quickly went downstairs. They drove straight to the restaurant.
The restaurant was Audrey Sutton’s choice, a sour soup hot pot place.
The place was quite far, taking nearly twenty minutes to drive there.
When it’s cold, hot pot is the choice. Shane Warner didn’t allow her to eat spicy food, and she herself felt queasy just thinking about it.
The sour soup was mild, so Shane Warner specially instructed the restaurant to use less oil, and this taste seemed to suit Audrey Sutton’s preference. Before the food was cooked, she even scooped a bowl of soup from the pot to drink.
After gulping down the steaming hot soup, Audrey Sutton put down her bowl and said, "I have big news for you."
Shane Warner replied, "Hmm?"
Audrey Sutton said, "Sister Phoebe and my brother got their marriage certificate this morning."
Saying this, Audrey Sutton showed the wedding photo that Phoebe King had sent her earlier on her phone: "See, you said Sister Phoebe was joking back then."
Glancing at it, Shane Warner continued putting food into the pot while saying, "I think she got pressured by her family to marry."
Audrey Sutton pouted and said, "People change. Maybe she used to be playful, but after meeting someone she truly loves, she settled down. Doesn’t she seem more settled now?"
After Audrey Sutton finished speaking, she noticed Shane Warner cooking in the pot, frowned, and said to him: "I still want to drink the soup; why are you cooking?"
Shane Warner paused with the plate in hand, glanced at her, and continued putting meatballs from the plate into the pot, saying, "This big pot of soup—you can drink yours, and I’ll eat mine. What’s the matter? Will adding some food dry up your soup?"
Audrey Sutton glanced at him, mumbling: "I told you, you should eat hot pot more often. With sour soup hot pot, you drink the soup first before putting in the food. If you put the food in, the soup’s taste changes."
Shane Warner said, "Then I’ll order you another pot."
Audrey Sutton glared at him: "Are you afraid people won’t know you’re foolishly rich? Eat yours and remember next time."
After saying this, Audrey Sutton reached over with her chopsticks to pick up a leaf of lettuce he had just put in, blew on it, and said, "Doesn’t it taste good?"
Shane Warner said, "Yeah, it’s mild. You can have more of this kind of hot pot."
Audrey Sutton remarked, "It’s just a bit far."
"Director Ford, sit over here. There’s a window, and the air is better circulated."
Not far away, hearing a familiar voice, Audrey Sutton immediately turned her head to see, and saw a group of six or seven people sitting at a large round table about four tables away from them. The voice was none other than Clarissa Morgan.
This woman was still the same, and Audrey Sutton truly admired her. In such cold weather, she was still wearing a high-slit dress, with her thighs almost exposed. Just looking made her shiver.
Audrey Sutton turned her head back and said to Shane Warner, "Hey, your female classmate."
Shane Warner glared at Audrey Sutton, "Eat your food, don’t look around."
Audrey Sutton now felt secure in her position. As for Clarissa Morgan, she was long past caring. Eating from the pot, she said, "I heard she’s in the film industry now, starting to act. She’s acting in one of Vanessa’s comics, and she’s even playing the lead role."
Shane Warner responded, "Why are you so concerned about her business?"
Audrey Sutton explained, "I’m not concerned, just gossiping. Her fans don’t know what she’s really like in private. When the stills were released online, everyone said she’s beautiful, like a heroine straight out of a comic. I think if she played a character in my comic, I might start disliking my own work. Just imagining her as my heroine is distressing."
Shane Warner asked, "Is yours being adapted into a series too?"
Audrey Sutton smiled lightly, "The last one, my sister-in-law said, was being considered for adaptation, but there’s no news yet."
Shane Warner suddenly commented, "Did your last one have a female lead?"
Audrey Sutton: "..."
