CHAPTER 54: CHAPTER 54: I DON’T HAVE A HUSBAND

Faye Xavier looked at Shane Warner’s back with a face full of gratification and muttered to herself, "Master Shane is still so young, impulsive, and full of energy. If he says he’ll do it, he does it."

In reality, Shane Warner felt he had approached the wrong person.

Though Faye Xavier was surrounded by a myriad of flowers, the women around him were not genuine pure-hearted girls. Most of them were the kind of women whom he could dismiss with a bit of money, as he would put it.

Therefore, the strategies he spoke of were not applicable to Audrey Sutton at all.

Shane Warner wandered around the restaurant, recalling how she always had some fruit every night at home, so he personally went to the kitchen to cut a fruit platter and brought it upstairs.

When he opened the door, she was still in the same position as when he left. Squatting on the chair, she didn’t even glance at him when she heard his return.

"Ahem—" Shane Warner cleared his throat lightly, pretending his throat was uncomfortable.

Seeing she still didn’t respond.

He changed into slippers, walked quietly behind her, and placed the cut fruit beside her computer.

After putting it down, Shane Warner stood behind her for just two seconds, and seeing that she did not acknowledge him, he deliberately turned around and left the room again.

He thought, if she was mad right now, she wouldn’t touch the fruit if he stayed in the room watching her.

Leaving her alone also served as a gesture of goodwill, but whether she would accept it was unknown.

Shane Warner wandered around the yacht alone, finding an empty spot by the railing to smoke.

Audrey Sutton glanced at the fruit beside her hand—all her favorite kinds.

A bit tempted, but she just wanted to stay angry.

Pretending not to see, she continued drawing, staring at the computer screen.

In less than two minutes, the hand holding the pen paused.

Audrey Sutton turned to look around the room, ensuring he was not there.

She looked again at the colorful fruit platter.

Thinking, with such a big platter, eating one piece wouldn’t be noticed.

Thinking this, she picked up the fork beside the plate, initially only intending to eat one watermelon piece.

But couldn’t resist and ended up trying almost every fruit.

Afraid of being caught, she then put down the fork, pretending nothing happened, continuing her drawings.

Her head felt a bit dizzy, and her eyes felt heavy, so she finished only the line draft and then shut down the computer.

Shane Warner smoked several cigarettes in a row and returned only after the smoke smell dissipated.

At first glance upon entering, he noticed she was no longer at the desk.

Then he saw a curled figure on the sofa, tiptoed over, and gently pulled down the blanket to take a look, only to find she had fallen asleep.

Her little face was flushed, and her eyes were puffy from crying.

Even asleep, she looked aggrieved.

She was so angry with him that she wouldn’t even sleep on the bed.

Shane Warner worried she wasn’t sleeping deeply and didn’t immediately move her.

He stood up and looked at the desk, noticing the fruit platter seemed untouched.

This made Shane Warner feel somewhat defeated.

Was she going to completely refuse everything from him?

The yacht started to head back, and after waking up tomorrow, it would be about time to disembark after having breakfast.

Hopefully, after waking up, she truly wouldn’t hold a grudge overnight.

Shane Warner sat by the chair at the desk and fiddled with his phone, remembering the time he rewarded her, and how gleeful she had been.

So he opened the Drawing View App again, pulled up her comic page, and rewarded five million drawing coins consecutively.

He then started imagining whether she would scream excitedly like that day when seeing the reward tomorrow morning.

He just wanted to see her smile cheerfully like a child every day. That heartbroken, aggrieved crying face from the evening, he never wanted to see a second time.

At midnight, after about two hours since Audrey Sutton fell asleep, Shane Warner got up, tidied her blanket, then carried her, blanket and all, to the bed.

When he returned to lift the pillow under her head, his hand accidentally touched her face, and the burning temperature made Shane Warner frown immediately.

He reached out to touch her forehead, confirming she had a fever.

He hastily called the ship’s doctor. The doctor’s face looked somewhat uneasy, seeing the thermometer near forty degrees, and said, "The equipment and medications on board are limited. Madam’s situation is not very stable. Have her take two fever-reducing pills first. If it doesn’t work, take her to the hospital immediately after disembarking."

This night was destined to be unsettling.

Outside the ship, it began to rain, with muffled thunder accompanied by lightning crackling intermittently.

Shane Warner kept changing the alcohol cotton on Audrey Sutton’s forehead, yet her temperature showed no signs of dropping.

He called Faye Xavier to urge the captain to increase the return speed.

The ship, originally scheduled to dock around ten in the morning, reached the dock a little after seven.

Arthur Sutton disembarked first to bring the car to the pier. After Shane Warner carried Audrey Sutton off the ship, they immediately drove to the hospital in Arthur Sutton’s car.

...

After Arthur Sutton informed the family, everyone rushed to the hospital to stay with them.

The medical staff bustled around, administering injections and medications, and by around ten in the morning, Audrey Sutton’s fever had subsided.

Hazel Yates, looking pained, said to Shane Warner, "There’s an empty bed nearby; go get some rest. We can watch over her here."

"It’s okay. I’ll wait until she wakes up."

Just as he spoke, she woke up.

Standing at the bedside, Hazel Yates immediately bent down with a gentle smile, saying, "Audrey, you’re awake! Do you feel unwell anywhere? Look at me, I’m Mom."

Samuel Sutton couldn’t help but tease his wife, "Our daughter has a fever, not amnesia."

Norman Sutton: "Our sister has always been a bit silly; it wouldn’t be surprising if her brain got fried."

Hazel Yates turned and glared at Norman Sutton, then asked Audrey Sutton, "Do you still remember Mom?"

Audrey Sutton was just a bit dazed momentarily, and after hearing Hazel Yates’s question, she chuckled, "Mom, do you really think I’m that silly?"

Hazel Yates immediately sighed with relief, "It seems your brain wasn’t fried. You almost scared me to death."

"Why is everyone here?"

Stephen Sutton: "Third brother called saying you had a fever of forty degrees. It scared Mom and Dad, so they rushed here without breakfast."

"Second Brother was here too, but he went out on a call."

As the family conversed one after another, Shane Warner stood by the other side of the bed, staying silent.

It was Hazel Yates who brought the conversation to him, saying, "Audrey, you made the right choice marrying him. Shane took care of you all night, without closing his eyes."

Audrey Sutton followed Hazel Yates’s gaze, turned her head to look at Shane Warner, her expression a bit puzzled, and blinked at him, asking, "Who are you?"

Shane Warner: "?"

The people in the hospital room were momentarily stunned, and Hazel Yates hurriedly said, "He’s your husband, remember? Don’t joke with Mom!"

Audrey Sutton, looking very serious, said, "My husband? I don’t have a husband?"

Shane Warner: "???"
