CHAPTER 6: CHAPTER 6: LIKE HELL I WANT TO LIVE WITH YOU

It took about twenty minutes from entering to leaving the civil affairs bureau.

Holding the little red marriage certificate bought for nine yuan, Audrey Sutton was more excited than getting an acceptance letter from a prestigious university, yet she dared not show it too clearly.

She wanted to take a few more glances at the photo on their certificate but was afraid Shane Warner would catch her acting lovestruck, so she quickly tucked the marriage certificate into her bag.

"Why are you giggling? Let’s go."

Audrey hurried to catch up and got into the car: "Where to?"

As he started the car, Shane said, "Aren’t we going to your place for lunch?"

Audrey was stunned for a moment; she initially thought Shane was just being polite, considering he was such a busy person with probably no time or interest for this.

"...If you’re busy with company work, it’s fine not to go. I can just tell my dad."

She thought she was being considerate by giving him a way out, but he replied, "No matter how busy I am, I still need to eat, right?"

Audrey then realized maybe he did want to join the lunch.

She also realized she really couldn’t see through what was on his mind.

Though she had been secretly in love with him for many years, her understanding of him was still quite superficial, based on media reports and gossip; she knew nothing about what he was like privately.

While he drove quietly, Audrey lowered her head to use her phone.

Shane glanced at her sideways, then continued to focus ahead, driving.

Their wedding photo flashed in his mind; he hadn’t looked at it much, but her smile was etched into his memory.

Her smile during the photo shoot was very sweet and seemed to have a magical contagion, putting others at ease.

And she often smiled.

Audrey put away her phone, wanting to sneak a peek at him, but when she did, her gaze met his directly; she swallowed nervously and frowned asking, "What?"

"Nothing."

Audrey pursed her lips, hesitantly asked, "So... are we really married or is it just a fake marriage?"

Shane raised an eyebrow, stopped at the traffic light, turned to look at her, and said lightly, "The certificate from the civil affairs bureau is legally recognized, how can it be fake?"

"No, that’s not what I meant. I mean... are we just making do or... living together for real?"

With an ambiguous smile, Shane countered, "You want to live together?"

From his tone, Audrey felt like she was being teased, so she quickly snapped back, "No way I want to live with you! I just want to warn you in advance, don’t get any weird ideas."

Shane looked at her with a faint smile, not saying a word.

Audrey couldn’t handle his look, her face turned slightly red, yet she sternly said, "Neither of us can interfere with each other!"

"Mm."

The car continued to move forward.

Audrey was a bit puzzled, what did his "mm" mean?

Was it perfunctory?

Her mood seemed to sour suddenly, feeling irritated without knowing why, she turned to look out the window, no longer saying anything.

Back home, her brothers were busy with their stuff, and her parents were nowhere to be found, the atmosphere was eerily quiet and awkward.

"...Feel free to sit. I’ll go wash some fruit," Audrey said.

Shane reached out to hold her arm, "No need. Where’s your room?"

Audrey frowned, "Why?"

"Need to borrow your computer for some work."

With some suspicion, Audrey glanced at him twice but still led him upstairs.

Upon entering the room, he didn’t go straight to the computer desk but looked around.

The room resembled a child’s, dominated by pink and white tones, scattered with various plush toys of all sizes, a few posters of male celebrities on the walls, mostly textbooks and study materials on the shelves, and...

He reached out for a book that piqued his curiosity, casually flipped through a few pages, and saw some rather indecent images.
