CHAPTER 288: THIS SECRET, UNCOVERED

Then what about Bai Haize? What kind of man is he?

She thought she had known him well. She thought that if there was someone in this world who had always lived as sincere as his heart it would be him. Bai HaiZe. He wasn’t someone who would ever hurt a fly, he was someone who was even willing to be by her side in a time where everyone would rather avoid her.

She didn’t love him that’s for certain. She never saw him as anything more than a friend.

But nontheless, she had always respected him, admired him even.

She felt that Jiang MengYao was never a good older brother figure, a pervert to boot who gets off from hurting her sister and finding it pleasuring to him.

But Bai HaiZe is different. He felt like the older brother, the older figure of sibling she needed to see, someone she wished she could be, someone whose steps she wanted to follow.

A sincere and honest man.

All but a lie?

If this was all but a lie?

If all of this was nothing but a lie?

AiLin felt as if she wouldn’t ever trust anyone if this turns out to be true.

Deep down she wishes that this wasn’t right, wishing that her guts, for the first time in her life, would fail.

"By the way, I think I will be gone from the office and out of the radar for four days," said Canary after a brief moment and she looked at her friend, confused.

"What? No. I don’t agree to you being out of the radar. What if something dangerous happens to you? You know that as you became a loanshark there are many enemies after you and your life."

"I know I know," Canary sighed as she patted her shoulders. "But I’m going for a break. I swear to you, see?"

AiLin looked at the ticket that she flung in front of her, a single ticket round trip to Japan.

"I’m not lying to you and I’ll be sure to send you pictures. I will be out of the radar but I will always communicate to you and if I fail to do so every three hours, you can ask your hubby to hire someone to find me," said Canary with a grin.

AiLin who saw the ticket to japan and the excited expression of Canary couldn’t push through with her rejection. She frowned, still skeptic however and asked, "But why so suddenly? You said you don’t like to go out of the country."

"Well," Canary sighed as she sat down, "Okay fine, I actually found someone I want to go there with."

"A man?" AiLin asked her, surprised as for the very first time in their life, Canary was interested in going out with a man!

Since their life was almost similar before they got to prison, AiLin knew how much Canary despise men. She was sold by her own mother to a man who then assaulted and even sold her around as prostitute. After killing that man, instead of getting the protection she needed, Canary was kicked to the prison to hide the doings of the man who had bought her as that man was once a prominent figure.

Canary for a long time feared men. Fearing as in, she wouldn’t hesitate to hit men or even threaten to kill them when she lays eyes on them.

Before knowing her, Canary was as aggressive as a dog that had been abused by its master for decades, causing for her to always have a fight response when she was close to a man.

It took years for this to change and perhaps due to the bodyguards that now worship all her works and follow her like the little good club of puppies, Canary had softened up to a man.

So how could AiLin not be surprised to find out how Canary was now interested in a man- even wanting to go to a trip to another country for days with the said man?!

"So who is this man? What is his name? His age? His occupation? Does he drink? Does he have history of abuse? Is he manipulative? You know not to get close to manipulative men, especially the soft spoken one. What about his looks? Does he feel like a puppy? A cat? A snake? Not the snake and especially not the fox okay? You get too soft to people and sometimes you couldn’t differentiate whether they’re truly in need of help or they’re pretending to need your help and you will get too invested in th-" AiLin couldn’t finish the train of question as Canary pushed her hand and face away from her.

"Eugh! This is why I didn’t want to tell yo tCanary rolled her eyes, "He’s a good man, just awkward and spoiled. I’ll show you him later alright? So let me go to Japan."

"Well..." AiLin drawled. "I’d rather see his face first..."

"He is already in Japan. I would have shown you his face first if he was here," lied Canary smoothly and it was hard for AiLin to tell her lies apart with how Canary’s nonchalant acts. "Three days," Canary pushed her three fingers up, "Just three days. By the way, I don’t think you want to see this but here."

Before AiLin could pick apart her wish to go to Japan with her "lover", Canary had pushed an envelope to her hand and in it, AiLin frown.

"This is.." AiLin knew this name so well. After all it’s the name of Mr Jiang’s mother, or to be more exact, her grandmother. Grandmother LinLin. Grandmother LinLin was always despising of Mrs Jiang so AiLin had never been comfortable enough to be close with the woman.

She could hardly count the times when she had seen Grandmother LinLin face to face much less talk to her.

But.. the reason why Mrs Jiang had been so hateful towards her as a child was due to Grandmother LinLin and other uncles and aunts of her paternal family always pointing out how she looks none like Mr Jiang or Mrs Jiang herself.

Since then, AiLin had always had a bad image of Grandmother LinLin.

That’s why she couldn’t understand why the woman had now invited her, to her house even for a talk.

And in it she said "Miss Hua AiLin." not "Jiang AiLin."

"Do you want to go there?" Canary asked.

AiLin sighed, "Seems like I have to, she said she has something for me that would help me."

"Sounds like an obvious trap to me," pointed Canary and AiLin nodded.

"But I still have to finish the puzzle of that night’s fire," AiLin pondered even more, tightening her hand around the envelope, "I’ll go. I’ll also tell Zi Chen about this first."
