Chapter 111: Chapter 107 Lin Wei Chapter 111: Chapter 107 Lin Wei …

The next day at noon, Lu Jingyan put the dumplings, which were chilled with several ice packs, in the car.

She was driving halfway when she hit a red light, so she picked up her cell phone to check the incessantly ringing WeChat messages.

It was only midday, yet everyone had already started sending their well-wishes.

Lu Jingyan casually replied to a few, then somehow ended up tapping into Sheng Xian’s chat window.

Last night at 6:47 PM, she had responded to Sheng Xian’s message.

Lu Jingyan, “Okay.”

Sheng Xian, “Should I pick you up tomorrow?”

Lu Jingyan, “No need, I’ll drive.”

Sheng Xian, “Fine, I’ll go buy some stuff at the supermarket, then. See you tomorrow.”

Lu Jingyan, “See you tomorrow.”

Lu Jingyan’s mind went blank for two seconds, then she put down her phone as the light in front turned from red to green and she stepped on the gas again.

The bag of dumplings on the passenger seat swayed, and she instinctively reached out to steady it.

Inside was an ice pack, very cold to the touch, instantly snapping her back to reality.

Lu Jingyan, “…”

She had actually brought all the dumplings from home.

Her dream had really come true!

She was such a sucker!

And an utterly spineless one at that!

Lu Jingyan arrived at Sheng Xian’s garage, sat in the car for a full half an hour, before finally exhaling and resignedly carrying the bag of dumplings into the elevator.

As the elevator doors opened, Lu Jingyan saw Sheng Xian, who was sticking couplets on the door.

He heard the noise, glanced back, finished affixing the banner, then turned around and took the bag from her hands, “What’s this, so heavy?”

Lu Jingyan kept silent a moment, “…Dumplings.”

Just yesterday he had posted on Moments that he wanted to eat dumplings, and today she had brought so many dumplings over.

Lu Jingyan really didn’t want to appear too fawning, so she added, “Housekeeper made them, said that the weather has been warm recently, they should be eaten soon or they’ll spoil.”

Sheng Xian didn’t speak, as though he believed her explanation.

Lu Jingyan felt relieved; she took off her shoes, and naturally reached for the pair of unattractive men’s slippers she usually wore here.

“Someone else will wear those shoes in a bit.” Sheng Xian opened the shoe cabinet, took out a pair of fluffy pink slippers with bunny ears in front of her, “Wear these.”

Lu Jingyan switched shoes, then realized the implication in Sheng Xian’s words, “Someone else is coming over later?”

Sheng Xian “hmm”-ed, opened the fridge, and put the dumplings she had brought inside.

Lu Jingyan thought it must be some colleague or friend of his, and didn’t ask further.

Half an hour later, the doorbell rang.

Sheng Xian went to open the door, and after about two minutes, a very pleasant female voice came from outside, “This is my New Year’s gift to you.”

Sheng Xian had someone else over whilst inviting her to spend the New Year.

Lu Jingyan tensed up involuntarily, clutching her phone tightly.

The girl quickly changed shoes and entered the house.

Lu Jingyan recognized her immediately as the girl from the day before yesterday.

Having been further away yesterday, she had merely thought this girl was very beautiful, but today, up close, she realized the girl wasn’t just ordinarily beautiful.

She was naturally discerning, and it was the first time another girl had impressed her so much.

The girl seemingly hadn’t expected someone else to be there, looked surprised when she saw her, then glanced between her and Sheng Xian. Her dark eyes flickered back and forth a few times, eventually settling on Sheng Xian, “Teacher, is she your…”

Before the girl could finish her sentence, Sheng Xian spoke with an unaffected expression, “Lu Jingyan.”

After finishing, Sheng Xian also said to Lu Jingyan, “Lin Wei, one of my students.”

Teacher? Student?

Lu Jingyan looked up towards Lin Wei.

Lin Wei greeted Lu Jingyan with a bright smile, “Hello.”

The girl’s smile was too charming, and Lu Jingyan simply couldn’t muster any hostility towards her as if she were facing Bo Mu, responding with a smile, “Hello.”

Lin Wei grinned at her again and asked, “Teacher, are we having hotpot tonight?”

Sheng Xian turned to Lu Jingyan, “Is that okay?”

Lu Jingyan nodded, “I’m not picky.”

“Then I’ll go get ready.” Lin Wei took off her coat, and instead of casually draping it over the chair next to her, she placed it on the sofa where Lu Jingyan was sitting, claiming she was just putting her jacket down, her gaze fixed on Lu Jingyan the whole time, “Can you handle spicy food?”

Lu Jingyan: “I can.”

“Then I’ll make a yin-yang pot, the teacher is injured, so let him have something milder.” After saying this, the girl entered the kitchen.

Sheng Xian didn’t seem to have any intention of helping and just sat down on the sofa, “She’s not going home for the New Year, staying alone in Beijing, so I invited her over for a New Year’s Eve dinner. I didn’t notify you in advance, you don’t mind, do you?”

With so many students, why did he only invite this one to his house for New Year’s… Lu Jingyan watched the TV, feigning indifference, “I don’t mind.”

Sheng Xian didn’t respond but followed her gaze to the TV.

Lu Jingyan couldn’t resist glancing his way after a while.

After a few moments, Lu Jingyan looked at him again, hesitated, and asked, “Aren’t you… going to give a hand?”

Sheng Xian seemed not to grasp the suggestion at once, “Hmm?”

Lu Jingyan pointed towards the kitchen, “Letting a young girl do all the cooking for New Year’s Eve dinner, isn’t that a bit much?”

Sheng Xian pondered for two seconds, “It is a bit much.”

Lu Jingyan thought he would get up to help, feeling a bit sour inside, but to her surprise, he looked at her the next second, “Why don’t you go?”

While still feeling a bit upset, Lu Jingyan turned to look at Sheng Xian, “?”

“Although she and I are just teacher and student, I think it’s necessary to avoid any misunderstanding,” Sheng Xian said earnestly, his eyes on the TV, as if afraid of inviting unnecessary gossip and trouble, “A man and a woman cooking together can easily cause misunderstandings.”

“…”

Ten seconds later, when Lu Jingyan saw that Sheng Xian genuinely intended to stay put on the sofa without moving, she felt too guilty to let a young girl be slighted by them both, so she quietly stood up and went into the kitchen.

Lin Wei heard the noise and turned her head, “Would you like something to drink?”

“No, it’s not that,” Lu Jingyan looked at the variety of vegetables soaking in the sink, “Is there anything I can help with?”

“No need, no need, wife, you go and keep the teacher company.”

Lu Jingyan nearly choked on her own saliva, “Wife?”

Lin Wei blinked, “Did I say it wrong? Aren’t you my teacher’s girlfriend?”

Lu Jingyan calmed herself, “I’m not.”

“Oh.” Lin Wei nodded, then realized after two seconds, “I see, my teacher is pursuing you, right?”

“…”

Lu Jingyan always thought she had a wild imagination, but she found the young girl in front of her seemed to have an even wilder one.

As Lu Jingyan was considering how to reply, Lin Wei’s phone rang.

It was a WeChat notification sound, a voice message from a boy, his voice tired, lazy, “Weibao.”

Weibao?

Lin Wei.

Lu Jingyan glanced at Lin Wei’s phone.

Lin Wei tapped the keyboard a few times, sending out a message.

After setting down her phone and noticing Lu Jingyan watching, she smiled a bit sheepishly, “My boyfriend.”

Lu Jingyan wasn’t good at kitchen chores but felt too embarrassed to sit idly by like Sheng Xian waiting to be served, so she stood by the kitchen door keeping Lin Wei company, “Are you guys in a long-distance relationship?”

“We wouldn’t have had to be, but he failed his college entrance exams and had to repeat a year,” Lin Wei said while tearing mushrooms apart, her tone carrying a slight complaint, “He’s almost taken high school as casually as primary school, this is his fifth year in high school, a true high school squatter.”

PS: Jiang Su, Lin Wei, I miss you.
