Chapter 112: Chapter 108: Lu Xue Mei Chapter 112: Chapter 108: Lu Xue Mei Lu Jingyan almost laughed out loud.

“It’s alright, laugh if you want. I’d like to laugh at him too.”

“…”

Lin Wei worked quickly and efficiently, and soon she had finished chopping and washing the side dishes and arranged them on a plate. Since Lu Jingyan couldn’t handle these tasks, she helped by carrying the plate, arranging the dishes around the bottom of the pot as Lin Wei mixed the sauces.

When Lu Jingyan saw Lin Wei come out, she pulled out a chair, just about to invite her to sit, but Lin Wei quietly tugged at her clothes and whispered, “Sister, do you know where the bathroom is?”

Lu Jingyan hesitated for a moment, then asked subconsciously, “You haven’t been here before?”

Lin Wei nodded, “This is my first time entering Teacher’s home.”

Lu Jingyan immediately caught the significance of “entering”: “When you came before, Sheng Xian never invited you in to sit?”

“No.”

Lu Jingyan suddenly felt that Sheng Xian was rather indifferent; common courtesy would suggest inviting someone inside for a drink of water if they’ve made it all the way to your doorstep.

Lin Wei, unaware of Lu Jingyan’s thoughts, continued, “Besides, I don’t often come to Teacher’s place. I’ve only been here twice. The last time was to deliver some materials. I heard the Teacher was injured and felt it inappropriate to meet outside, so I made the trip.”

Lu Jingyan was taken aback. Had she come over the day before yesterday to deliver materials to Sheng Xian?

“Anyway, he’s my teacher, you know? He puts a lot of pressure on me.” As she spoke, Lin Wei, as if fearing that Sheng Xian might hear her, lowered her voice even more: “I actually had plans for a get-together tonight with classmates from our group who aren’t going home. But then, out of the blue, Teacher sent me a message asking me to come over.”

Seeing Lin Wei’s troubled expression, Lu Jingyan glanced at Sheng Xian, who was sitting by the sofa.

He was still watching television, his expression indifferent, completely unconcerned about what she and Lin Wei were doing.

He seemed to have an attitude of letting them chat about whatever they wanted.

Lu Jingyan looked away and pointed to the right, “The bathroom is over there.”

“Oh, thank you.”

Lin Wei went to the bathroom.

Only she and he remained in the living room; Lu Jingyan couldn’t help but look over at Sheng Xian again.

She didn’t know where her confidence came from, but she always felt like Sheng Xian had called Lin Wei over suddenly to clarify something to her.

However, he didn’t know that she had come the day before yesterday.

While Lu Jingyan was lost in thought, the bathroom door opened, and Lin Wei came out.

The hot pot on the table was boiling away, its fragrance filling the room. She lifted the lid and called out to the two, “Time to eat.”

Sheng Xian grunted in acknowledgment and got up to wash his hands.

Lu Jingyan walked over to the dining table and helped Lin Wei add some vegetables to the pot.

Sheng Xian’s dining table was big, big enough to seat ten people. Lin Wei sat next to Lu Jingyan, while Sheng Xian sat alone on the opposite side of Lu Jingyan. He took the chopsticks passed by Lin Wei with a polite “thank you” and lowered his eyelids to start eating the hot pot.

Sheng Xian acted as though the two of them weren’t even there.

The three couldn’t just eat hot pot in silence. Fortunately, the television was broadcasting behind-the-scenes footage of the Spring Festival Gala, which featured many celebrities, so Lu Jingyan and Lin Wei chatted intermittently, contributing to a festive atmosphere.

After a few minutes, Lin Wei suddenly remembered something, “Sister, what do you do for a living?”

“I work with websites,” Lu Jingyan pulled out a business card from her bag and handed it to Lin Wei, “This website.”

Hearing this, Sheng Xian glanced up briefly, his gaze sweeping over the gold embossed business card in Lin Wei’s hand.

Lin Wei was shocked, pointing to the app on her phone, “This is your company’s?”

Lu Jingyan swallowed a bite of greens and hummed vaguely.

“Have you met all those celebrities on TV? Are those online gossip rumors true or false? The TV drama with dual male leads that was popular recently, are they really together in real life? Netizens say they share a closet. And that hot young actress, did she really have a surrogate pregnancy?”

Lin Wei excitedly followed Lu Jingyan in gossiping for a while, then she asked, “Sister, which university did you go to?”

Lu Jingyan, “The same one as you.”

Lin Wei, “So that means you went to the same university as my teacher, right? Did you know each other back in college?”

Lu Jingyan, “No.”

“Ah?” Lin Wei was taken aback and calculated their ages, they must have been at the same school for at least two years, “My teacher was very outstanding, a prominent figure at the university. Even if you didn’t know my teacher, you must have heard about him, right?”

Lu Jingyan looked up at Sheng Xian, paused for two seconds, and told the truth, “No.”

Lin Wei was stunned. She glanced awkwardly at her own teacher, and in order to ensure a comfortable college life in the future, she shifted her eyes and said, “Maybe my teacher skipped grades, so you didn’t overlap.”

The always silent Sheng Xian, suddenly threw out a sentence, “We overlapped.”

Lu Jingyan and Lin Wei both looked up at him.

“Overlapped for two years. When she joined the university, I was in my junior year,” Sheng Xian said, noticing their gazes, as he placed the greens from his chopsticks back into his bowl.

Lin Wei looked at Lu Jingyan, then at Sheng Xian, “Then, teacher, you…”

It was as if Sheng Xian knew what she was about to say. Before she could finish her sentence, he crisply hummed an affirmation, “I’ve heard quite a few rumors about Junior Lu.”

“…”

“Lu Jingyan, the School of Journalism’s talented girl, top scholar in the college entrance examination, beauty queen, and from a distinguished background.”

“…”

Sheng Xian recited from memory the descriptions of her from the campus network without missing a word.

Lu Jingyan’s hand shook, and the beef ball she had just picked up fell into the boiling pot, splashing oil droplets. A large drop splattered precisely onto Sheng Xian’s face.

Lu Jingyan, “…”

Sheng Xian, “…”

Lin Wei, “…”

Three seconds later, Lu Jingyan silently pulled out a tissue and handed it to Sheng Xian. Perhaps it was because he had called her ‘Junior Lu’, she hadn’t quite caught on, “I’m sorry, senior.”

Sheng Xian stared straight into her eyes for two seconds, then reached out to take the tissue, “It’s okay, Junior Lu.”

Lu Jingyan’s heart skipped a beat, and she fought the urge to bite her tongue. She picked up a glass of juice nearby and drank it calmly.

Lin Wei felt the atmosphere at the dining table was awkward, as if she was superfluous.

The room suddenly quieted down.

Only the lively and festive sounds from the TV’s Spring Festival Gala remained.

The more Lin Wei felt out of place, and just as she was pondering whether to politely leave, her phone suddenly rang.

She breathed a sigh of relief and quickly answered the call.

Being too hasty, she accidentally activated the speakerphone, and a very young voice burst out, “Lin Wei, where are you hanging out now?”

Lin Wei was taken aback by the question and inadvertently glanced at Sheng Xian across from her. After two seconds, she said, “I’m at my teacher’s place.”

“Are you looking to die, hanging out at another man’s house in the middle of the night?”
