Chapter 298 298: Valley Crevice
The Totem Warriors began searching around. Suddenly, one of them accidentally stepped into a trap set by Shen Jingqi and his group. With a horrific scream, he fell into the trap. Immediately, several other traps were triggered as well, catching the Totem Warriors off guard, and chaos ensued in the forest.
Seizing the opportunity, Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue dashed out of the cave, running towards the direction marked in red. Seeing this, the Totem People cursed angrily, "You little brats, how dare you trick us. After them! We must catch them today."
They ran frantically, not knowing how long they had been running, until they finally reached the area indicated by the red mark. It was a desolate valley, surrounded by steep peaks, shrouded in a dense fog that obscured the path ahead.
"Jingqi, this place is so eerie. Do we really have to go in?" Lin Yue asked, her heart filled with fear as she looked at the valley in front of her.
Shen Jingqi took a deep breath and said, "We're already here, and there's no turning back. Who knows, the secret of the Divine Artifact might be hidden in this valley." With that, he took Lin Yue's hand and cautiously stepped into the valley.
The valley was eerily quiet, with only the sound of their footsteps echoing. The fog thickened, allowing them to see only a few meters ahead. Suddenly, Lin Yue felt something soft underfoot. Looking down, she was startled to find a skeleton. She screamed, "Ah! A skeleton!"
Shen Jingqi hurriedly supported her and said, "Don't be afraid. There must be hidden dangers in this valley, so we must be careful." He cautiously looked around, seeing more and more skeletons, suggesting a fierce battle had once taken place here.
They continued forward, when suddenly, they heard a low growl coming from the depths of the valley. The sound seemed to come from Hell itself, sending chills down their spines.
"Jingqi, what is that sound? It sounds terrifying," Lin Yue clutched Shen Jingqi's arm, trembling with fear.
Frowning, Shen Jingqi said, "I don't know either, but it's definitely nothing good. Let's be careful and slowly approach to have a look."
They cautiously moved towards the direction of the sound. As the fog gradually cleared, they saw a massive silhouette. It was a gigantic beast, its body like a small mountain, covered in black scales that glistened ominously in the sunlight. Its eyes were like two giant lanterns, emitting a fierce glow, and its mouth revealed sharp teeth, occasionally letting out a roar.
"Jingqi, what kind of monster is this? How do we deal with it?" Lin Yue asked in terror.
Looking at the beast, Shen Jingqi was filled with fear too, but he knew they could not retreat. He gripped his sword tightly and said, "Yue'Er, don't be afraid. Let's find a way to divert it and use the opportunity to search for the Divine Artifact's secret."
With that, Shen Jingqi picked up a stone and threw it at the beast. The stone struck the beast, angering it, and it let out a furious roar, charging at them.
Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue quickly ran to the side, with the beast in hot pursuit. They zigzagged through the valley, while the beast rampaged behind them, toppling trees and kicking stones as it went.
"Jingqi, we can't keep this up, it'll catch up with us sooner or later," Lin Yue shouted as they ran.
Shen Jingqi observed the terrain as he ran. Suddenly, he noticed a narrow crevice in the valley ahead and had an idea. "Yue'Er, run over there. We'll lure it into the crevice."
They dashed toward the crevice, with the beast close behind. As they reached the crevice's entrance, Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue quickly dodged to the side. The beast, moving too fast to stop, plunged into the crevice.
The crevice was too narrow, trapping the beast inside. It roared in frustration, trying to break free, but to no avail.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue looked at the trapped beast with gratitude. But they knew this was just the beginning, and they needed to continue searching for the Divine Artifact's secret.
They resumed their search in the valley and finally discovered some strange symbols and patterns in a hidden cave. These symbols and patterns were unlike anything they had ever seen but seemed somehow connected to the Divine Artifact.
"Look at these symbols and patterns. Could they be the key to unlocking the Divine Artifact's secret?" Lin Yue asked excitedly.
Shen Jingqi studied the symbols and patterns closely, lost in thought as various potential explanations filled his mind, though he couldn't pinpoint a definite answer.
"These symbols and patterns are quite mysterious. I need time to study them. Maybe we can discover the secret of the Divine Artifact from them," Shen Jingqi said.
They started to carefully examine the symbols and patterns. As time passed with no breakthrough, Shen Jingqi suddenly noticed one symbol bearing a striking resemblance to a mark on the Divine Artifact.
"Look at this symbol, it looks a lot like the mark on the Divine Artifact. Could this be the key?" Shen Jingqi pointed at the symbol.
Lin Yue leaned in, her eyes lighting up as she said, "It really does. Jingqi, you're brilliant. What should we do next?"
Thinking for a moment, Shen Jingqi said, "Let's try to activate the Divine Artifact by following the sequence of these symbols and patterns."
They carefully took out the Divine Artifact and began operating it according to the symbols and patterns' sequence. As they completed the final step, the Divine Artifact emitted a dazzling light, illuminating the entire cave.
Soon after, they saw a huge map appear on the cave wall, marking a mysterious location. This location's mark matched one they had seen on another map before.
"Look, a new map appeared, along with this mark. Could this be our ultimate destination?" Lin Yue said excitedly.
Shen Jingqi looked at the map, filled with anticipation. He knew they were one step closer to uncovering the truth of the Divine Artifact's secret. But at the same time, he also knew there were more dangers ahead.
"Let's go. We need to head to this mysterious place and reveal the Divine Artifact's final secret," Shen Jingqi said with determination.
Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue packed up the Divine Artifact and left the cave. The beast's roars hammered at their nerves like heavy blows.
They followed a faintly discernible path through the valley, with the fog growing thicker, as if an invisible curtain was isolating them from the outside world. Each step they took made the ground beneath them creak ominously.
"The fog is getting heavier. What if we lose our way?" Lin Yue asked, her eyes fixed firmly ahead, trying to find a clue in the mist.
Shen Jingqi furrowed his brow, glancing around, and said, "Don't panic. We'll go with our instincts. Since the Divine Artifact led us here, it must be for a reason." Though he said this, his heart was filled with uncertainty, unsure of what dangers the fog might conceal.
Suddenly, a gust of cold wind blew through, causing the fog to roll and churn, as if an invisible hand was stirring it.
