Chapter 301 301: Jade Pendant
"What...what is this?" Lin Yue asked in astonishment, her eyes wide open, filled with shock and curiosity, as if the scene contained secrets enough to subvert her understanding. She leaned slightly forward, her hands unconsciously gripping the hem of her clothes, her breathing becoming rapid.
Shen Jingqi frowned, thought for a moment, and said, "It looks like an ancient memory, perhaps about the rise and fall of this castle. But why would this memory appear in this box? And what are those shadows?" His voice was low, tinged with doubt and unease, every word squeezed out from the depths of his heart.
They continued watching the scene, which gradually blurred like a veil moved by the wind. Colors began to blend, lines started to twist, and eventually, it vanished like a puff of smoke.
Inside the box, only a Jade Pendant remained, emitting a soft, mysterious glow, as if carrying some ancient power.
The shape of the Jade Pendant was peculiar, like a fusion of the most marvelous curves between heaven and earth, engraved with patterns they had never seen before, those patterns winding and twisting like mysterious snakes moving across the surface of the Jade Pendant.
"What is this Jade Pendant? Does it have anything to do with the Divine Artifact?" Lin Yue asked curiously, her voice tinged with urgency, like an explorer discovering a treasure but not knowing how to unlock it.
She reached out and lightly picked up the Jade Pendant, which emitted a warm glow in her hand, spreading along her fingers, as if engaging in a silent conversation with her.
Her gaze was fixed on the Jade Pendant, as if trying to see through it.
Shen Jingqi looked at the Jade Pendant, filled with doubt. His eyes deepened, as if plunged into endless contemplation. He faintly sensed that this Jade Pendant was intricately linked to the secrets they had been searching for, like an invisible net enveloping them. He reached out to take the Jade Pendant, and the moment his fingers touched it, a faint electric current spread throughout his body, making him shiver involuntarily.
"I don't know what connection it has with the Divine Artifact, but my intuition tells me this thing is not simple. We must take cautious care of it; perhaps it is the key to solving all the mysteries." Shen Jingqi said, his voice carrying a bit of resolve but more worry about the unknown.
With the Jade Pendant and the Divine Artifact, they carefully left the ancient building. Outside, sunlight spread over the earth but couldn't dispel the shadows in their hearts. Every step was taken with extra caution, as if countless eyes were hidden around them, watching.
However, they were unaware that the Totem People had been secretly monitoring them. In an isolated bush, several Totem People lurked like Ghosts. Their bodies clung tightly to the ground, eyes like eagles, fixed on Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue's every move.
"Hm, these two kids unexpectedly found something so important. We must seize it from them." the leading Totem Person said fiercely, his voice low and hoarse, as if it was a curse from the depths of Hell. His eyes flashed with greed and ferocity, his mouth slightly upturned, revealing a sinister smile.
"Boss, when do we act?" a short Totem Person asked, his voice carrying a bit of urgency, his eyes full of desire for the treasure.
The leading Totem Person squinted, thought for a moment, then said, "Hold your horses; we're too close to that building here. If we disturb something dreadful, it'll be trouble. Let's wait until they've gone farther and find an opportune moment to act."
Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue were completely unaware of the approaching danger. As they walked, they discussed the Jade Pendant and the Divine Artifact.
"Jingqi, do you think there might be a special connection between this Jade Pendant and the Divine Artifact we're searching for? Maybe they are the keys to unlocking some mysterious treasure." Lin Yue said, her eyes shining with excitement, as if she had already seen the treasure beckoning to them.
Shen Jingqi shook his head and said, "It's uncertain for now, but either way, this thing is definitely important. We need to find a safe place soon to study it carefully."
They continued along a rugged path, with the surrounding trees growing denser, sunlight filtering through the leaves in patches of dappled light. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew, making the leaves rustle, as if countless small hands were applauding. Lin Yue couldn't help but shiver, instinctively moving closer to Shen Jingqi.
"Jingqi, don't you find this place a bit eerie?" Lin Yue said softly, her voice carrying a hint of fear.
Shen Jingqi warily glanced around and said, "Don't scare yourself; just be cautious." His hand tightly gripped the sword hilt, ready to respond to any potential danger.
At that moment, a wild rabbit darted out from the bushes, causing Lin Yue to cry out in fear. Shen Jingqi quickly shielded her behind him, eyes fixed on the bushes. However, he didn't spot anything unusual.
"Just a wild rabbit, don't be afraid." Shen Jingqi comforted her, but in his heart, there was an ominous premonition.
The Totem People saw this scene and snickered. "These two kids are really timid, but that's good, makes them easier to handle." the leading Totem Person said quietly.
They continued to quietly follow behind Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue, maintaining a certain distance, wary of being discovered.
The sky gradually darkened as they arrived at an abandoned village. A stench of decay lingered, and dilapidated houses swayed in the wind, seemingly on the verge of collapse. Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue decided to rest here for the night.
They found a relatively intact house and entered. The house was piled with clutter, dust filling the air. Lin Yue couldn't help but cough a few times.
"This place is really shabby, but we'll have to make do for the night." Lin Yue said, frowning and waving a hand to disperse the dust in the air.
Shen Jingqi began clearing a clean space and said, "Let's rest first, continue the journey tomorrow."
They sat on the floor, Shen Jingqi took out the Jade Pendant again, studying it closely. Under the faint moonlight, the Jade Pendant emitted a mysterious glow, the patterns seemed to come alive, moving across its surface.
"Yue'Er, look at the patterns on this Jade Pendant, they seem to have some kind of regularity." Shen Jingqi said, his eyes full of focus.
Lin Yue leaned closer, her eyes fixed on the Jade Pendant. Suddenly, she discovered the patterns seemed somewhat similar to certain elements in the scene they saw inside the box.
"Jingqi, look, these patterns seem to be related to the decorations in that castle from the scene. Could there be a deeper connection between this Jade Pendant and the castle?" Lin Yue said excitedly, her voice tinged with delight.
Shen Jingqi nodded and said, "Very likely. It seems we need to delve into the history of that castle; we might find more clues about this Jade Pendant and the Divine Artifact."
While they were immersed in exploring the Jade Pendant, the Totem People had already quietly approached outside the house. Like a group of nocturnal hunters, they quietly awaited the perfect moment to strike.
"Boss, they're inside; when do we rush in?" a Totem Person whispered, his eyes revealing an impatient expression.
The leading Totem Person made a silent gesture and whispered, "Don't rush. Wait until they're asleep before we make a move. Remember, strike swiftly; don't give them the chance to use the Divine Artifact."
