Chapter 444: Monster
The light gradually faded, and the temple returned to calm. Shen Jingqi and Li Baiyu sat on the ground wearily, looking at each other's disheveled appearances, and couldn't help but smile at each other. Although their faces were tired, their eyes were filled with the joy of victory and anticipation for the future. Shen Jingqi said, "Senior, we won!" Li Baiyu smiled and said, "Yes, but we know this is just the beginning."
They stood up and looked again at the treasure that emitted multicolored light. Shen Jingqi said, "Senior, what should we do with this treasure?" Li Baiyu thought for a moment and said, "Let's take it with us; it might help us uncover the truth." So, they carefully packed up the treasure.
As they stepped out of the temple, they looked back at the ancient structure, still standing silently as if telling an unfinished story. Shen Jingqi and Li Baiyu knew that the road ahead was long, and with the mysterious book and newly acquired treasure, they would embark on a new journey.
In the following days, they studied the mysterious book and treasure while continuing to search for clues about the truth. They found that some of the runes in the book were similar to the patterns on the temple walls, making them even more convinced they were getting closer to the truth.
However, danger followed closely. One day, while resting in an ancient town, they suddenly felt a powerful evil presence approaching. Shen Jingqi looked around warily and said, "Senior, I feel danger." Li Baiyu also became tense, saying, "Let's be careful."
At that moment, a group of even more terrifying shadowy figures appeared. These shadows were stronger than those they encountered in the temple, exuding a nauseating evil aura. The leading shadow coldly said, "Do you think you can escape our pursuit with those treasures and the book? Today, you will all die!"
Shen Jingqi and Li Baiyu tightened their grips on their weapons, knowing that this would be an even harder battle. But they didn't retreat, for they held a firm belief in their hearts: to protect the peace and tranquility of this world.
The battle broke out again, with Shen Jingqi and Li Baiyu using all of their strength. They engaged in a thrilling life-and-death struggle with the shadows. During the battle, they continuously searched for the shadows' weaknesses, cleverly using the powers of the mysterious book and treasure to counterattack.
After a fierce battle, they finally repelled the shadows once more. But they knew this was only a temporary victory, as those evil forces would not easily let them go.
Shen Jingqi and Li Baiyu looked at the wounds on each other, exhausted but with eyes burning with determination like flames, growing even stronger. They knew this was just a brief respite in a long battle, as those evil forces were like snakes hidden in the darkness, ready to strike again at any time.
"Senior, we can't keep taking hits like this," Shen Jingqi gritted his teeth, his voice low but filled with strength, constantly thinking about strategies in his mind. "Those shadows seem to be bent on obtaining the mysterious book and treasure; we need to find out why they are so obsessed."
Li Baiyu slightly furrowed her brows, her eyes revealing a thoughtful light, "Considering the current situation, this book and treasure definitely hold great unknown secrets, perhaps related to the world's hidden ultimate power. But we have too little information now; we need to find a place to study them thoroughly."
They decided to leave the dangerous town and find a relatively safe place to rest and explore the truth. Along the way, the oppressive atmosphere made breathing difficult, and Shen Jingqi periodically glanced around warily, tightly gripping his weapon as if letting go would mean being consumed by darkness. Meanwhile, Li Baiyu walked with furrowed brows, silently piecing together known clues in her mind, attempting to find the key hidden in the fog.
When they arrived at a deserted ancient fortress, dusk had already descended. The fortress appeared particularly eerie and terrifying in the twilight, with dilapidated walls covered in vines like the wrinkles left behind by time. The half-open gate creaked, as if telling ancient stories.
"Senior, this place looks quite secluded; shall we take a look inside?" Shen Jingqi looked at Li Baiyu with a hint of expectation and hesitation in his eyes.
Li Baiyu glanced at the fortress, then at the surrounding environment, nodding, "Alright, but be careful; there might be danger here too."
They cautiously walked into the fortress, greeted by a stench that made them wrinkle their noses. Thick dust blanketed the hall, and each step kicked up a cloud of dust. The torches on the walls had long since extinguished, with only faint moonlight filtering through broken windows, creating patches of mottled light and shadow.
Suddenly, a low roar sounded from deep within the fortress, the sound resembling that of a demon from Hell, sending chills down their spines. Shen Jingqi and Li Baiyu immediately grew tense, standing back to back and surveying their surroundings warily.
"Senior, what is that sound?" Shen Jingqi asked in a low voice, gripping his weapon even tighter.
Li Baiyu shook her head, her eyes brimming with alertness, "I don't know, but it's definitely not something good; let's handle it cautiously."
As the roaring drew closer, a massive shadow slowly emerged from the darkness. It was a huge monster, its entire body covered in black scales that shimmered with a metallic luster. Its eyes burned like flames, exuding ferocity and brutality.
"Humans, how dare you trespass into my territory!" The monster roared deafeningly, its voice echoing throughout the hall, shaking dust off the walls.
Shen Jingqi took a deep breath, forcing down his fear, and said loudly, "We are just passing through, looking for a place to rest, with no ill intentions."
The monster let out a cold laugh, "Hmph, no ill intentions? Then what's with the mysterious aura you carry? Hand over that mysterious book and treasure, and I might spare your lives!"
Shen Jingqi and Li Baiyu exchanged a glance, both understanding that the monster was also after the mysterious book and treasure. Shen Jingqi firmly said, "Don't even think about it! We will never surrender these items to you."
The monster let out a furious roar and suddenly lunged at them. Its speed was lightning-fast, like a black flash, reaching them in an instant. Shen Jingqi and Li Baiyu swiftly dodged to the sides, and the monster missed, crashing heavily against the wall, causing the fortress to tremble slightly.
"Senior, this creature is powerful; we need to be careful," Shen Jingqi said while searching for the monster's weaknesses.
Li Baiyu nodded, "Alright, let's cooperate well and attack it together."
