I froze in shock. How in the hell did he know that Alexander got a call in the middle of us making out?

By my expression, Ethan must have realized that he had guessed right.

“Alexander left you because he got a call from Nora’s dad, Stanley, asking if he could take Nora home,” Ethan continued. “If Alexander didn’t know Nora, then why would Stanley trust him with her daughter?”

My mind spun because I could see Ethan’s point. Why would Stanley trust Alexander to bring Nora home…

I forced myself to stop right there. I couldn’t afford to think like this. Head games were Ethan‘ s specialty, and I wasn’t going to allow him to make me question everything again.

“Come on, Olivia. Stop messing around with Alexander. He will never take you seriously,” my ex–husband said, with fake sincerity shining in his eyes. “Remember all the good times we’ve had? You’ve only known Alexander for just a few months, but we’ve had a good, long eight years together.i” /i

His words made hot anger simmer in my stomach. “Really?” I seethed. “You call a good rtionship you cheating on me? Lying to me? Upending my whole life? You’re a maniptive, pathological liar! And I’ll never be with you! I’d rather spend every single day alone than with you!”

I wrapped my hand around my water ss and threw the ice–cold water in his face. Satisfaction flowed through me as I watched water drip down his hair and face.

Ethan didn’t react. He just blinked and wiped the water from his eyes.

I mmed my fist on the table. People in the diner stared at us, but I didn’t care. I had a lot of things to say to my ex–husband, and this was a long timeing.

“I deserve to be with someone who loves me!” I said. “Not someone who takes advantage me.”

“Love isn’t enough in a rtionship,” Ethan said through gritted teeth. “You also need

forgiveness. You’re the one who proved how callous you are when you left without even giving me a chance.”

I opened my mouth to argue with him, but I realized that it wasn’t worth it. Fighting with Ethan was like fighting with a brick wall. I stood up and grabbed my purse just when the server came to check on me.

“He’s going to pay for my food,” I told Marissa.

“Sure thing,” she said and grinned.

Ethan tried to get up, but Marissa made him sit back down with a tight grasp on his shoulder.

I thanked her again and walked out greeted by the crisp morning air. As I walked down the busy sidewalk, I got out my phone. The fact that Alexander might have lied to me about whether or not he knew Nora made my stomach uneasy. If he had lied to me about that, what else could he be lying to me about?

I typed out a message asking him who called himst night, but before I could send it, I came to my senses. I couldn’t get upset over our uncertain rtionship. That wasn’t fair and the opposite of what I decided this morning. With a nod, I deleted the message.

Just before I put my phone in my pocket, I received a text.

    *Olivia*

The message was from Alexander. I stepped over to the wall so that I could read the message since the sidewalk was so busy.

‘Good morning, sleepy head. I could bring breakfast down to you if you got ate start to your morning.‘

I bit my lip so that the smile forming on my face wouldn’t spread. I wished that Alexander wouldn’t make me feel this way. Whenever I began to pull away from him, he did something to bring me back into his strong orbit. I paused with my thumbs over my phone screen, ready to write out a message for him.
