CHAPTER 290: IN A VILLAGE

Ethan and Rey both opened their eyes. They had no idea where they had come.

"Ethan, what just happened there? What was that blinding light?"

Then Rey remembered something. They were in Ethan’s house, his parents were also there. They were discussing something with the inner disciple of the Sword God Sect. But someone suddenly attacked them, and then Ethan held his hand, and a blinding light came out of nowhere.

His mind instantly went into panic mode.

He came to Ethan and grabbed his shoulder tightly,

"Ethan, where are Father, Mother, and Grandpa?"

There was a drop of tear in Ethan’s eye. He hugged Rey tightly and slowly described everything his grandpa had told him.

"As for this place, I don’t have any idea. Rey, you are injured, let me try to use my talent."

Rey was standing there like a wooden statue. He was in shock when he heard this. What Ethan said was potentially the death sentence of his parents and Grandpa Lucas.

He thought, he could finally ease the sufferings of his parents after awakening but he just brought disasters to them. It would have been better if he didn’t have the talent.

Ethan tried to use the healing talent, but as soon as he activated it, he fell to the ground and almost lost consciousness.

He was not yet a cultivator, and his body didn’t have any energy to use his talent. So when he activated the healing talent, his life force was drained quite a bit. That was why he instantly felt weak.

When he fell to the ground, Rey came to his senses.

"Hey, are you all right, Ethan?"

Ethan weakly answered, "I am fine. Let’s find out where we are first."

Rey pulled Ethan from the ground and helped him walk, using himself as support.

They were in a village-like place. Suddenly they saw someone.

"Hello, mister, can you please tell us where this place is?" Rey asked politely.

When the man saw two children standing there and one of them in bad condition, he instantly came to them.

"What happened to your friend, child? Is he all right?"

Rey was happy to see that the man was so kind.

"He is a little weak. Do you know where I can get a doctor?"

The man thought for a moment.

"There are no doctors here, but we have an alchemist in our village. Maybe he can help him."

Rey thanked him.

"Can you please tell us the directions, sir? We’ll be grateful to you."

"Of course. I will take you to him."

Soon they entered the village with the man. He walked them for five minutes before they arrived near a dilapidated house in the village.

"Sabro, are you there? I have visitors for you!"

A moment later, the door opened and an old man with somewhat dirty clothes came out.

"Why are you shouting, idiot? And who are the visitors?"

This time, the man who brought Ethan and Rey into the village became angry.

"You old dirty bastard, who are you calling an idiot? You’re the idiot, your entire family is idiot!"

"I don’t have a particular family, all the villagers are my family. Naturally, you are one of them, so I wasn’t wrong when I said you are an idiot," Sabro said with a smile.

Garold, the man, became red with anger but couldn’t refute the old man. So he snorted coldly,

"I found them outside the village. This one looked very ill, so I brought them here to see if you could treat him or not."

Sabro was looking at Rey and Ethan like he had found two unpolished gems. His eyes were shining.

"Garold, you can leave them here. I will take care of them."

Garold looked at the sudden happy face of Sabro suspiciously, but he still left. He trusted the old man; otherwise, he wouldn’t have brought them here.

After Garold left, Sabro invited both of them inside his room.

There were all kinds of weird instruments and a strong medicinal smell inside his house.

Sabro pointed at a bed and said, "Lay your friend down there. I’ll bring some medicine."

Rey took Ethan to the bed and helped him lie down.

Sabro went inside his house to bring out medicine.

"I am sorry, Ethan. You had to go through all this pain because of me."

Ethan became even weaker at that moment.

"Don’t worry," he said with great difficulty.

After a while, Sabro came with a bowl in his hand.

"Feed this bowl of soup to your friend. He will be all right."

Rey immediately took the bowl from him and looked at it.

It was blood red in color and had a strange medicinal aroma.

To make sure it was safe, Rey took a sip from it. The taste was good, but he waited a little while to see if there were any side effects.

After ensuring everything was okay, he finally gave the soup to Ethan. He felt a little guilty doing this; it was clear he was suspicious of Sabro.

Ethan finished the bowl and fell asleep. Rey looked at Sabro.

"Thank you, mister. And I am sorry for being suspicious of you earlier."

This whole time, Sabro didn’t speak. He was looking at the duo with a smile on his face.

"Don’t worry, kid. Let’s talk. Tell me about yourselves."

Rey sat comfortably.

"I am Rey, and he is my brother Ethan. We came from a faraway land to run from our enemy. That’s all I can talk about us."

Rey stopped talking.

Sabro then said, "Okay, let’s talk business, shall we?"

Rey looked at Sabro with some confusion.

"What business?"

"I can see both of you have talents for cultivation. Would you like to stay here? I can give you food and shelter and also teach you how to cultivate.

In exchange, you will help me gather herbs from the mountain and hunt food for the villagers after becoming a little stronger. Deal?"

Rey was not shocked to know that this man could tell they had talent. It was not a difficult thing to do. But he probably didn’t know what their talents were or their rank.

After thinking for a bit, he answered, "I need to discuss it with Ethan. After he wakes up, I will let you know."

It was already nighttime, so Sabro left the room. Rey was tired too after all this hassle, so he fell asleep beside Ethan as soon as he lay down.

The next day, Rey woke up and saw Ethan was not beside him.

He panicked and instantly jumped off the bed.

He started searching for Ethan. After coming out of the room, he saw Ethan talking to Sabro, and both of them were having a meal together.

Rey heaved a sigh of relief.

Ethan looked at the door.

"Rey, come and join us."

At the dining table, Sabro again proposed his terms.

This time, Ethan took the lead in the conversation.

"We will help you, but only if we feel safe. We won’t risk our lives for your sake or anyone else’s, and you won’t be ordering us around. If you’re okay with that, then it’s a deal."
