Veronica was still reviewing data models on her computer at DataPulse Co. when Marco's name flashed on her phone screen. She answered with professional detachment, "Mr. Valerie?"

The formality in her voice seemed to melt away Marco's resolve. His tone immediately softened. "Cecelia has been asking about you. Are you available this weekend? Perhaps we could spend some time together?"

Glancing at the complex spreadsheets demanding her attention, Veronica sighed inwardly. "I'm completely booked for the next two days. Would next week work instead?"

Disappointment flickered across Marco's face, though Veronica couldn't see it through the phone. "That's fine. Next week it is, then."

"Perfect," Veronica replied, her mind already drifting back to the patterns and projections on her screen.

Eager to return to her work, she added hastily, "Shall we leave it there for now?"

After a brief pause, Marco agreed. "Of course."

Ending the call, Veronica immersed herself back into her work until well past ten that evening before finally leaving the office, fatigue settling into her bones.

The following morning, she made her way to Norman manor, memories flooding back as she approached the grand estate.

When Ridley had departed for medical treatment abroad years ago, little Sabrina had been just over two years old - a charming toddler with bright eyes and infectious laughter. The bond between them had been undeniable; Ridley had adored her completely.

Even during his departure for recovery overseas, he'd struggled to say goodbye to her. This wasn't some obscure family history - even Cullen, who'd paid minimal attention to Sabrina in those days, must have been aware of their special connection.

After waiting so long to return home, Ridley had clearly expected to see Sabrina during their last visit. Instead, Cullen had brought Niall, leaving Sabrina behind - a slight Ridley hadn't forgotten.

This time, Ridley had specifically mentioned Sabrina would join them. Yet when Veronica arrived at the manor, there was no sign of her daughter.

Ridley greeted Veronica with genuine warmth, his smile reaching his eyes. "I've had the kitchen prepare all your favorites. You must eat well today."

Veronica returned his smile. "I'm looking forward to it."

After exchanging pleasantries for several minutes, Ridley's expression shifted slightly. "Did you hear about Cullen's latest stunt? The fool planned to bring Niall to Cook's birthday celebration. Cook, of course, refused outright and warned him that if he dared bring that woman to ruin her special day, she wouldn't even attend her own party."

Veronica's coffee cup froze midway to her lips.

"Cullen may be infuriating," Ridley continued, shaking his head, "but this is Cook's first birthday celebration in years. It seems he's finally backed down, though the whole affair has left her in a foul mood. If you have time, give her a call. She could use a friendly voice."

Veronica nodded slowly. "I will."

She suddenly realized something she hadn't considered before. After Cullen's persistent attempts to contact her - the calls, texts, and even waiting outside her office - he had abruptly stopped. At the time, she hadn't given it much thought, but now it made sense. He must have compromised about the birthday celebration, eliminating the need to convince her further.

"Watson and the others won't accept them either," Ridley added, his tone hardening.

While Cullen might have yielded regarding the birthday event, they both knew that if he truly insisted on marrying Niall, no one could ultimately prevent it. Ridley's frown deepened momentarily before he deliberately changed the subject.

They chatted for another ten minutes when the sound of tires on gravel reached them through the open window. Unlike Cullen's last visit when Ridley hadn't bothered to acknowledge him, his eyes now lit up with anticipation as he rose from his seat.

"That must be Sa," he said, moving quickly toward the entrance.

Veronica followed at a more measured pace. As Ridley had predicted, it was indeed Sabrina emerging from the vehicle. Upon spotting her mother, the girl raced toward her with unbridled excitement. "Mom!"

Before Veronica could respond, Ridley was already beaming at Sabrina, ready to welcome her.

His smile vanished instantly when Cullen stepped out of the car behind their daughter.

With an irritated snort, Ridley fixed Cullen with an icy glare. "I believe I specifically said to have someone drop Sa off. Didn't I make it clear you weren't welcome to disturb my peace? What are you doing here?"

Cullen's gaze shifted from Ridley to Veronica standing beside him. A faint smile curved his lips as he replied, "I thought you were being sarcastic."

Ridley's response was another contemptuous snort. Cullen raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, don't get upset. I'm only here to drop Sa off. I'll be gone in a minute."

Dismissing Cullen entirely, Ridley turned his attention back to Sabrina, his expression transforming with genuine affection. "Sa, I'm Mr. Norman Senior. We used to have so much fun together. Do you remember me?"

Sabrina clung to Veronica's hand, studying Ridley with curious eyes before shaking her head.

While Ridley focused on reconnecting with Sabrina, Cullen glanced briefly at Veronica, though he remained silent. After a moment of hesitation, he simply announced to Ridley, "I'm leaving now," before sliding back into his car and driving away, leaving only dust and unspoken words behind him.
