My Coldhearted Husband’s Regret
Chapter 364 - 364 - Trust Rewrites History
Rosie having feelings for Veronica? It seemed impossible to believe.
If Nate's revelation was accurate, then the conversation she had with Rosie yesterday...
Recalling how Rosie had abruptly departed during their talk, Niall felt her heart plummet. The implications were daunting.
Cullen noticed the sudden change in her demeanor and leaned closer, his eyes filled with concern. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Niall quickly composed herself, forcing her lips into a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "No, I'm fine." But inside, her mind was racing with possibilities.
Later that day, Niall shared this unexpected information with her family. The news that Rosie not only liked Veronica but was willing to accept her as a daughter-in-law left both the Mack and Crystal families utterly stunned.
"Veronica is already married with a child, and she comes from an ordinary background," one family member pointed out incredulously. "Dario's family is wealthy and successful. How could the Reid family possibly consent to such a union? Perhaps Mr. Dante misunderstood the situation."
"That must be it," Bonnie chimed in urgently, her voice rising with conviction. "Or maybe that woman has been hiding her past? The Reid family might not know she was married before, which would explain their acceptance."
Niall herself couldn't comprehend why the Reid family would approve of Dario marrying Veronica. The possibility that Veronica had concealed her past and deceived the Reid family seemed increasingly likely, but there was no way to be certain.
She had initially believed that if persuading Dario to settle privately failed, a lawsuit wouldn't be particularly troublesome. However, if Rosie had recorded their conversation yesterday, the lawsuit strategy was no longer viable.
Yet, if Veronica truly had hidden her marital status and child from the Reid family, there might still be a way to salvage the situation.
With renewed determination, Niall immediately contacted someone to investigate the matter with Rosie. Thanks to her connection with Cullen, many people eagerly sought to curry favor with her, making it relatively easy to find someone willing to gather information.
By the following afternoon, her informant had met with Rosie and inquired directly, "Mrs. Reid, I've heard rumors that Ms. Murray, who is close to your son, has been married before. Is this true?"
To the informant's surprise, Rosie simply smiled and replied, "It's true. You're quite well-informed."
This information was promptly relayed back to Niall: "The Reid family is fully aware of Veronica's marital status."
This could only mean they likely knew that the person Veronica had married was Cullen.
Bonnie's voice turned bitter with disbelief. "Even knowing the woman is married, they still agreed to the relationship? The Reid family must have completely lost their minds."
Niall's expression darkened, and she remained silent, her thoughts churning with this unexpected development.
Meanwhile, Sabrina's fencing competition stretched over two days. That afternoon, while Veronica was engrossed in reading, her phone buzzed with a call from Sabrina.
After a moment of hesitation, Veronica answered the call.
Fresh from completing her competition, Sabrina was eager to share the joy of her victory. She had worried Veronica might not pick up, but hearing her mother's voice, she exclaimed happily, "Mom, are you done with your work?"
"Mm, what's up?" Veronica replied, her tone neutral.
"I finished my fencing competition, and I won second place!" Sabrina announced, pride evident in her voice.
Veronica offered genuine praise. "Sa, you're amazing."
Bolstered by the compliment, Sabrina's excitement grew. "I've only been practicing for a short time, which is why I only got second place. But with more practice, I'm sure I'll win first place next time!"
Veronica felt a surge of pride for her daughter. "Mm, keep at it, but don't be too hard on yourself."
"I know," Sabrina responded, then asked hopefully, "Mom, what are you doing? Do you have time to come home for dinner tonight?"
Veronica's gaze lowered, her tone cooling slightly. "I still have things to take care of."
"Oh, okay," Sabrina replied, the answer expected. She had grown accustomed to such responses and didn't feel disappointed. The fact that Veronica had answered her call and offered praise was already enough to make her happy.
After chatting briefly, they ended the call.
A little later, Sabrina sent several photos to Veronica – some from the competition and others showing her on the podium with her trophy. In the images, Sabrina stood confidently holding her fencing mask, radiating grace. On the podium, her smile was bright and triumphant.
The photos captured her beautifully.
After sending them, Sabrina messaged: "Dad took these photos. Mom, do you think they're nice?"
"They're beautiful," Veronica replied simply.
It was clear that Cullen had been with Sabrina throughout the competition. Despite everything, Cullen was proving to be a devoted father to Sabrina, investing time and energy in their relationship.
Veronica had to admit that as a father, Cullen was doing well. His care for Sabrina gave her some peace of mind.
On Monday, when Veronica and Dario returned to the office, their lawyer informed them of an update: Niall's legal team had sent a message stating that she had agreed to terminate their contract and pay the required termination fee.
