My Doomsday Train
Chapter 82: The Drowned Carriage
The Search Radar’s screen showed the group of survivors hiding in... a train?
"..."
A strange expression crossed Chen Mang’s face. To call it a train was generous—it was just a single carriage and a locomotive. The exterior armor was in tatters. His radar could pick up information on other trains within its range, and according to the data, this one was on the verge of being scrapped. It couldn’t be started, and the integrity of its various components was below 10%, making it completely unusable.
The train was currently stuck in a pond.
Normally, a train couldn’t even get this deep into the ruins of Taiping City. Most captains parked on the outskirts and sent their guards in to search for survivors and supplies. For this train to be here...
It had likely been caught in the tornado that had swept through the wasteland a few days ago, tossed into the air, and dropped here.
After relaying his orders to Biao and the others, the roar of motorcycle engines filled the air.
BOOM!
Biao and his team formed a single-file line and sped off into the depths of the ruined city.
Deep within the ruins, in a pond, a train was nose-down in the murky water. The locomotive was completely submerged, with only the rear half of a single carriage exposed.
It was an artificial pond. After a year of neglect since the apocalypse, the water level had dropped, but it hadn’t dried up completely.
Several bloated, rotting corpses floated on the surface, emitting a foul stench. The black, stagnant water was enough to deter anyone from approaching.
"Damn it!"
Inside the train, a man cursed under his breath. He’d had a string of bad luck lately. First, he couldn’t sell Ji Chuchu, which was frustrating enough. Then, a few days ago, the tornado had sent his train flying.
He’d been knocked unconscious on the spot.
When he woke up, only one carriage remained, and it was stuck deep in a mud pit in the ruins of Taiping City. The train was completely wrecked. It wouldn’t start.
Without the protection of his train, how was he supposed to face the vicious monsters out there?
He didn’t dare leave the pond and venture into the rest of the ruins. At least here, he was safe. Over the past few days, he’d observed that the zombies and zombie wolves wouldn’t enter the water. It was a relatively secure location.
But the food stored on the train was gone. The carriages with the food production lines had been blown away to who knows where. Only Slave Car #2 remained.
And there weren’t many slaves left either. Many had died in the violent crash, and the survivors were all seriously injured.
They were all just barely hanging on.
"This won’t work!"
A ruthless glint appeared in the man’s eyes. He poked his head out of the carriage and scanned his surroundings. If he stayed here, he would be dead for sure. He had to find some food.
Just then—
"Huh?"
The man froze. He thought he could faintly see several motorcycles kicking up dust at the edge of the pond, weaving through obstacles and heading toward him.
Are these people crazy?
How dare they ride like that in the ruins of Taiping City? And where the hell did they get motorcycles?
He watched, his expression shifting uncertainly. Ordinary survivors wouldn’t be this brazen. These people had to be guards from a Level 3 train, sent out to search for survivors.
They were probably here to investigate his wrecked train.
If he waved, they would surely rescue him, but he’d be reduced to a slave, living at someone else’s mercy.
He had once been a Train Captain in charge of over a hundred people. He couldn’t bear the thought of being ordered around. But if he hid, he’d starve. If he stayed trapped here, he would be dead either way.
After a moment of hesitation, the man took a deep breath and made his decision. He stripped off his coat, held it over his head, and climbed out of the carriage, roaring with all his might, "Help! Help me!"
I’ll survive first.
I can figure out the rest later.
The next moment—
"ROAR!"
Perhaps because of the noise, seven or eight Level 2 Zombie Wolves, which had been sleeping in a nearby ruined building, burst out with a roar. Their eyes were bloodshot as they stared at Biao and his men, who had just parked their motorcycles.
Saliva dripped from their fangs, staining the ground with the scent of death.
They advanced, step by step.
A battle was imminent.
"..."
Biao sat on his motorcycle, one foot on the ground, his face tense as he watched the approaching Zombie Wolves. He gripped the shard of a Carriage Blade tightly in his hand. He was nervous, but the situation was still under control.
He frowned, his gaze sweeping over the train in the pond and the bloated, stinking corpses floating on the water’s surface. His nose wrinkled.
That smell...
It was potent.
This pond was probably a virus incubator by now. Getting these people off the train was going to be tricky.
Just then!
"ROAR!"
The Zombie Wolves, unable to restrain themselves any longer, let out a low growl. They crouched, muscles tensed, ready to attack at any moment.
But then—
WHOOSH, WHOOSH, WHOOSH!
The sound of something slicing through the air suddenly echoed beside Biao and his men. Eight crossbow bolts shot out from a distance, pinning the Zombie Wolves to the ground with lightning speed.
Five of the wolves died instantly, without even a whimper. The remaining three struggled for a few moments before falling still.
"..."
Biao looked back at the Stellar, which had, at some point, climbed onto the roof of a thirty-six-story building not far away. He was stunned for a second, then broke into a grin. This long-range firepower support gave him a profound sense of security.
He’d been a guard on other trains before.
But no field mission had ever felt this secure.
He had motorcycles for transport, a Dragon Assault Rifle and a Carriage Blade shard for weapons, a Search Radar and Hive Mind providing detailed, comprehensive enemy information, and the train itself providing remote fire support.
Compared to his previous guard duties, it was like night and day.
It was a complete and total domination.
