?53: Chapter 47: The Funny Tale of Catching a Thief 53: Chapter 47: The Funny Tale of Catching a Thief After getting Lin Yi into the room, Li Chen was naturally flirty again.

With such a great opportunity to take advantage, how could he let it slip by?

While treating Lin Yi, Li Chen couldn’t resist making some moves, but Lin Yi was already used to it and simply tolerated him.

    ...

    The next day.

Li Chen was having breakfast on the street.

“Auntie, another fried dough stick, please.”

“Tsk tsk, auntie, this tofu dish is really good, one more bowl please!”

“Auntie, this breakfast tastes really great, two more meat buns and a scallion pancake.”

    “Auntie, hey?

Why are you looking at me like that?

It’s okay, oh, if it’s fine then stop looking at me, it’s freaking me out.

    Two more eggs please.”

The people around and the breakfast vendor were looking at Li Chen as if he were a monster.

Damn, why eat so much for breakfast?

Were you starved to death in your past life?

Li Chen had taken a seat at a table where several empty bowls were already placed.

Eggshells and other debris littered the table, and this guy had been eating non-stop since he sat down.

“Burp!” Li Chen belched and then yelled, “Auntie.”

At this, even the auntie couldn’t help but say, “Young man, eat less in the morning, it’s not good for your health.”

Li Chen was startled and then laughed embarrassingly, “No more eating, let’s settle the bill.

Oh, and pack a few more scallion pancakes for me.”

    ...

Under the speechless gaze of the auntie and the passersby, Li Chen left contentedly, but as he was leaving, he suddenly exclaimed.

Seeing that familiar figure, the perky backside, and the beautiful profile, wasn’t that Yu Yueying?

Li Chen saw Yu Yueying and secretly praised her in his heart.

Yu Yueying was dressed in a simple casual outfit today, jeans on the lower body and a random white long-sleeve on the upper body, but even so, her neat temperament and beauty could not be concealed.

    “Officer Yu, good morning.”

Yu Yueying was pretending to buy breakfast while closely watching a suspect, when a voice suddenly rang in her ear, and then a figure directly blocked her view.

    Her view was blocked!

Yu Yueying immediately got annoyed and tried to push the person in front of her to the side, but couldn’t move him.

Seeing that Yu Yueying wasn’t even looking at him and was trying to sidestep him, Li Chen couldn’t help feeling depressed.

Since when had his charm diminished?

That shouldn’t be right; considering his suave appearance, Yu Yueying should have recognized him immediately.

    Definitely something wrong here.

“You’re blocking my way!” Yu Yueying suddenly snapped, she was currently trailing a thief and hoping to follow him to his hideout to capture the whole gang, but unexpectedly, someone had suddenly popped up in front of her.

She hadn’t yet realized that this person was Li Chen.

“Do you know who I am?” Li Chen rolled his eyes, thinking what a dummy she was.

“I don’t care who...” Yu Yueying paused, looked up, and realized it was Li Chen.

“Even if it’s you, you can’t interfere with my work!” Yu Yueying got angry, pushed Li Chen, and suddenly realized that the suspect she was tracking had disappeared.

“It’s all because of you.” Yu Yueying, furious, left without another word to chase after the suspect.

Ah, really, I was just trying to say hello, and you’re already so hot-tempered early in the morning.

How will you ever get married acting like that?

Thinking it over, Li Chen also followed her.

Yu Yueying was frantic; the headquarters had already confirmed the suspect was part of a gang that had committed crimes over a hundred times in Linchuan City and had never been caught.

This gang was exceedingly clever and cunning.

They had finally identified one member and wanted to trace him back to his roots, but now the person had gotten away!

“If I don’t catch him this time, you are going to pay!” Yu Yueying gritted her teeth in frustration.

But just then, a man dressed in red turned the corner into an alley.

Spotting this, Yu Yueying quickly followed him.

The alleys here were intertwined, with ordinary homes connected, and most of them were one or two stories tall, making them highly interconnected.

Yu Yueying saw the suspect take another turn and didn’t dare to delay, fearing she would lose him.

However, the suspect seemed to time his moves cleverly, almost every time Yu Yueying turned a corner, she could only see the suspect turning another corner.

This continued until they reached the middle of these alleys.

    Damn it!

Yu Yueying clenched her teeth and seeing the suspect’s figure suddenly disappear, she quickly chased after him and looked around, but couldn’t spot him anywhere.

“Beauty, are you looking for me?” A chuckling voice suddenly came from behind her.

The man in red she had been following was standing right behind her, “You’ve been following me for a while, you must be tired, why not come to my room and sit?”

    She was discovered!

Taken aback, first things first, she needed to capture this guy and extract the whereabouts of his accomplices from him.

The man in red, seeing Yu Yueying’s surprised look, sneered, “And you call yourself a cop?

I wonder how you were trained in detective skills.

However, it’s commendable that you dared to follow me in here alone.”

“I can take you in by myself!” Yu Yueying said coldly, even pulling out her handcuffs.

“Tsk tsk tsk.” The guy shook his head and then whistled.

Suddenly, numerous figures appeared from the surrounding houses, at least fifty or so.

“Still think you can take me back?” The man in red wore a mocking look in his eyes.

“Brother Yao, this chick is a cop,” a thief said, his eyes lighting up when he saw Yu Yueying’s appearance, “She’s pretty hot.”

Yu Yueying’s heart sank; she had really walked into a lion’s den.

With so many people, she was no match on her own.

If it had been one or two, it might have been manageable, but with this many, they could literally crush her.

The man known as Brother Yao smiled slightly, “What’s up?

    You like her?

    She’s a cop, and you’re a thief!”

“With Brother Yao here, what’s there to fear?” Some of the thieves also started heckling, “Hasn’t Brother Yao always played the cops for fools?”

Yu Yueying intently stared at Brother Yao, realizing that he was apparently the leader of this group.

“Brother Yao, tie her up!” The thieves immediately surrounded Yu Yueying, their eyes burning with eagerness to charge at her.

This,” Brother Yao hesitated, frowning as he said, “We’re thieves, not kidnappers.”

    “Brother Yao, that’s your problem.

    You’re too soft.

Who would know if we tied her up?” some of the thieves began to instigate.

“We tie her up and then sell her to Black Dog.

Let the people from the streets deal with her.

Probably won’t see tomorrow’s sun, and the police might not even know it was us.

It’d be Black Dog’s problem if there’s trouble.”

Hearing this, Yu Yueying’s heart sank.

Black Dog was a notorious figure in Linchuan City, and as a police officer, she was well aware of him.

“No, that’s crossing the line even for thieves,” said the man in red, frowning.

“Brother Yao, since when do we thieves have a bottom line?” laughed the other thieves.

“Besides, she’s a cop here to arrest us.

Are we supposed to just let her go, so she can come back with a squad of police?

No way we’re letting her escape today.”

Yu Yueying didn’t say a word, sensing an instinctive danger as the group around her was amped up like they were on steroids.

Some of the thieves continued on without wait for Brother Yao’s decision, moving forward to grab Yu Yueying, but she swiftly caught a wrist and, with a quick maneuver, flipped him to the ground.

Seeing their fellow thief yelp like a slaughtered pig, the rest burst out laughing.

“Dalmatian, you’re really useless, can’t even handle a woman.”

    Brother Yao hesitated.

After all, police and thieves were natural enemies, and this woman definitely couldn’t be released!

    “Catch her.”

As soon as the words dropped, the eager thieves moved in, but just as they did, Yu Yueying’s heart sank, only to be met by a sudden faint voice, “Back off, all of you!”

    What?

The thieves paused, turning around only to see a man standing on a not-too-distant wall, holding a scallion pancake.

    “Is he talking to us?”

“Doesn’t seem so, ignore him, continue.”

The thieves redirected their gaze and were about to continue when a scallion pancake suddenly smacked one of them in the face.

Picking it up, he realized it was half-eaten.

“Damn it, kid, where are you from?

Looking for a beating, huh?” The thief instantly got angry, being slapped with a scallion pancake was a new and humiliating experience for him.

“Come down here, see if I don’t destroy you!”

“You want me to come down?

Why don’t you come up here?” Li Chen retorted disdainfully, jokingly questioning why he should comply just because he was told to, which would be a loss to his face.

Confusion swept across Brother Yao and Yu Yueying’s faces; Brother Yao was puzzled at the strange interruption, while Yu Yueying covered her face, embarrassed, “I absolutely do not know him!”

“Okay, just you wait,” grumbled some of the thieves as they began climbing the not-so-high wall easily.

Having eaten his fill and feeling energized, Li Chen shook his head, “This silly girl, always has to come to the rescue herself.” He stopped joking around and with a swift move, he stepped on the head of a thief and, like an immortal soaring, flew towards Yu Yueying, wrapped an arm around her, and whisked her away over the crowd towards another wall.

Landing steadily, Li Chen asked with a smile he thought charming,” Am I handsome or what?”

“Let go of your hand first!” Yu Yueying snapped.

Realizing his hand placement, Li Chen grinned sheepishly, “Sorry, sorry, didn’t notice.” Then he removed his hand from her ample chest.

Bewildered, Brother Yao and the thugs were stunned, and Yu Yueying ordered, “Li Chen, quick, arrest them all.”

    “Why should I?

I’m not a cop.” Li Chen feigned a yawn.

Sleeping extra might be a better use of his time.

Yu Yueying fumed; she trusted in Li Chen’s ability, but the man was anything but conventional.

“Li Chen, they’ve stolen over a hundred times, affecting Linchuan’s public safety...”

“Stop, stop, stop, I’m not buying your story,” Li Chen interrupted quickly.

“If you want my help, you could, unless you...”

He didn’t finish his sentence, instead chuckling as he glanced towards Yu Yueying’s chest, his hands clearly itching to reach for it.

The message was clear: he’d deal with the thieves if he could cop a feel.

“I agree,” Yu Yueying, furious enough to want to beat up Li Chen but finding no other option, relented, “but only after you’ve caught them.”

“All right,” Li Chen energized like he was on fire, “You all heard it, hands up and surrender, it’ll save me unnecessary trouble in flirting.”

The thieves looked at Li Chen as if he were a madman, “Stop messing around, who the hell do you think you are, Huo Yuanjia?”

“Obstinate fool,” Li Chen said dropping his playful tone, dashing down like a tiger leaping on its prey, lightning-fast.

He then rapidly weaved through the crowd, throwing bodies into a pile in the middle.

In just over a dozen seconds, more than fifty thieves had been stacked into a heap.

After dusting off his hands, Li Chen turned to Yu Yueying, “How about that?”

“There’s one more!” Yu Yueying urgently pointed out, “The one in red from earlier, don’t let him escape!”

Earlier, it was clear that he was the mastermind of the team, so it was imperative to catch him.

    “Wait a moment.”

After saying this, Li Chen vanished with a leap, quickly reappeared holding the aforementioned Brother Yao by the scruff and tossed him like a dead dog onto the pile of thieves.

“Done,” Li Chen remarked as he joined Yu Yueying and snickered, “Now, should I get to check the goods?”

Yu Yueying’s face flushed, her eyes fierce: “You wouldn’t dare!”

“Hey hey hey, you just promised me.”

    “What did I promise you?

I only said I agreed, but I didn’t agree to anything else,” Yu Yueying retorted, taking out her phone, “Headquarters, South Xiaowan Street, all targets apprehended, please send additional police vehicles.”

Li Chen was dumbfounded, “Since when did Yu Yueying turn so crafty?

Is this really the same Yu Yueying I knew before?”
