CHAPTER 525: CHAPTER 22 BRAIN CANCER

"...Shen Chi?" Lin Xiaoguai’s voice trembled, hesitantly reaching out to touch him.

Shen Chi clutched his head tightly, his entire facial expression distorted from pain. Hearing her voice, despite the excruciating agony, he still tried to comfort her, "I’m fine...it’s probably just a headache caused by hangover."

Even though Lin Xiaoguai’s mind was somewhat dulled, she remembered that she had drunk practically all the alcohol last night, and Shen Chi hardly had any. Moreover, with his strong tolerance for alcohol, how could he be intoxicated by just a bit of red wine?

"Shen Chi, what’s wrong with you? Where does your head hurt? Let me rub it for you..." Lin Xiaoguai said urgently.

Shen Chi struggled to endure the churning pain in his head. This headache had been occurring for a while now, just never as intensely; he would just bear it and it would pass. He had intended to go to the hospital for a checkup when he had time, but before he could visit, Wanwan had seen him.

He felt annoyed at himself, lifted his head to offer Lin Xiaoguai a reassuring smile, but then his vision went dark, and he collapsed.

"Shen Chi—" Lin Xiaoguai panicked, calling out twice before remembering the urgency of the situation and tremblingly grabbing the phone from the bedside table.

"Director Feng? Shen Chi has fainted from a headache; we’re now at a resort on the outskirts of Beijing. Can you send an ambulance quickly?" Lin Xiaoguai’s voice was shaky and weak, "Or should I drive him there now?"

"No need, we don’t know his condition yet. Don’t move him for now; I’ll send an ambulance immediately."

After hanging up the phone, Lin Xiaoguai felt somewhat faint, and it took her a good while to recover. She was just about to adjust Shen Chi to a more comfortable position when she remembered Feng Li’s words and immediately became hesitant to act.

She managed to calm herself down, took out some clothes from the wardrobe, and changed out of her pajamas. After a moment, she made calls to Han Shouxin, Han Shouzhen, and several children.

Then, thinking about the many courtyards in the resort, and that Feng Li might not find the place, she put on her shoes and ran to the entrance to wait.

The ambulance arrived quickly. Lin Xiaoguai had only been standing at the door for less than ten minutes before it arrived, likely having called upon a nearby hospital’s services.

Lin Xiaoguai led them to the bedroom. Watching the medical staff carry Shen Chi onto the stretcher, she followed along.

When they reached the military hospital, the medical staff had already performed a preliminary examination and said there was no life-threatening danger, so Lin Xiaoguai’s emotions had considerably calmed down.

"Wanwan, what’s happened? Why did Shoulu suddenly faint?"

"Mom, how is Dad?"

Everyone who could make it had come besides Han Shouxin and Shen Yinian.

Lin Xiaoguai forced a smile, "We’ll only know after the examination, but he’s not in life-threatening danger right now."

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief at her words.

Shen Chi was taken into the CT room, and Lin Xiaoguai and the rest started a tense wait.

Once she had calmed down, Lin Xiaoguai wasn’t as panicked as before; aside from the fact that not all headaches meant something serious, even if it were a terminal illness, her pharmaceutical skills could surely turn the tide.

With this thought, she found some certainty in her heart.

Han Shouzhen and Zheng Cuicui at her side also relaxed.

Shen Chi had regained consciousness by the time he was moved into the ward. Lin Xiaoguai took his hand and asked, "How do you feel? Does your head still hurt?"

"It doesn’t hurt anymore." Shen Chi shook his head and, seeing the redness in her eyes, sighed softly, "Don’t be afraid, I won’t be in any trouble," although he wasn’t convinced in his heart.

If it were himself...

"I’m not afraid." Lin Xiaoguai held his hand tightly, her tone firm, "You definitely won’t be in trouble, you still have to be with me for a lifetime."

"That’s right, you’re absolutely correct." Shen Chi smiled with a twinkle in his eyes.

Soon, Feng Li walked in with the lab report. Seeing his grave face, everyone in the ward felt a jolt of dread, suddenly anticipating bad news.

"Director Feng, my brother is okay, isn’t he?" Han Shouzhen was the first to ask, unable to contain herself.

Feng Li sighed, "It’s an intracranial tumor, that is... brain cancer."

Han Shouzhen swayed and was supported by Wan Quan standing next to her, noticing Shen Chi’s gaze tighten, Lin Xiaoguai offered him a comforting smile, then calmly asked, "Is the tumor benign or malignant?"

"...Malignant." Feng Li answered, with difficulty.

Not only Han Shouzhen, but even Zheng Cuicui’s complexion turned pale.

It was Lin Xiaoguai, however, who remained composed and inquired, "What’s the size of the tumor?"

"About two centimeters in diameter," answered Feng Li.

"Is surgery an option?" For the first time disregarding the presence of others, Lin Xiaoguai tenderly kissed Shen Chi on the corner of his lips.
