Chapter 531: Chapter 15: Zhang Xin Causes Trouble
“When I called him, he was at a dinner, but he had called earlier, and I saw it was almost time for Sisi and her classmates to get out of school, so I let him pick up the kids before coming over. He shouldn’t take long now,” Lin Xiaoguai answered.
Qiao Shan nodded and bent down to play with the child.
Shen Chi arrived very quickly. Just as Lin Xiaoguai and Han Shouzhen were considering whether to give him a call to hurry him along, he came over with the quadruplets.
“Mommy, mommy, has my little nephew been born?” Shen Yiqiao burst in, grabbed Lin Xiaoguai’s hand, and asked.
“He’s beside your sister-in-law, go see for yourself, but keep your voice down; the baby is sleeping,” Lin Xiaoguai instructed.
The quadruplets swarmed off to see their nephew, while Shen Chi didn’t rush to see his grandson, but instead asked, “Has Yinian been notified by phone?”
“Notified, but he can’t get away and will only be able to come back the day after tomorrow,” Lin Xiaoguai sighed.
“Then we’ll wait for him to come back to register the baby’s household registration,” Shen Chi nodded and said.
“No need, dad, Yinian and I have agreed that you will name the child,” Qiao Shan said with a smile.
Remembering that her father-in-law was not home when Yinian was born, and when he returned, her mother-in-law had already decided on his formal and informal names without his involvement, Qiao Shan smiled even more thinking about Yinian’s suggestion to compensate his father with the naming right of their son.
Shen Chi didn’t pay much attention to his daughter-in-law’s emotions, hesitated for a moment, then nodded: “Okay, I will think about it.”
By the time Shen Chi had decided on his grandson’s name, Shen Yinian had also rushed back.
“Shen Zhixian?” Hearing the name of his son, Shen Yinian pondered a bit and felt it was good. He then asked, “And his nickname?”
“You’ll have to let your mom decide on that,” Shen Chi said with a light cough.
As everyone’s gaze fell on her, Lin Xiaoguai thought for a moment and said, “Since the child’s formal name includes the word ‘Zhixian’, and it’s currently the season with plenty of cicadas, how about we call him Little Zhilia?”
“Little Zhilia,” Qiao Shan repeated, nodding, “The name is good. Isn’t there a saying that a nickname should be somewhat demeaning to ‘press down on the fortunes’? Naming him after cats or dogs wouldn’t sound too nice, but Little Zhilia sounds just right.”
She felt her mother-in-law had a knack for giving nicknames — her husband and his younger siblings also had unique nicknames.
The Qiao Family couple arrived especially late, Shen Yinian was about to report back to the military, and only then did they rush over in a hurry.
They felt guilty themselves, but seeing their daughter had given birth to a son, they were happy for her, albeit with the slight regret that the grandson bore the Shen surname.
Their demeanor irritated Qiao Shan, but with her son by her side, she was too lazy to argue, and since they didn’t stay long, both parties at least maintained superficial peace.
Ever since Little Zhilia arrived, the Shen Family’s days became even more lively. Qiao Shan began going to the company after her confinement, with Little Zhilia mostly being taken care of by Lin Xiaoguai.
The child was neither as well-behaved as his father during childhood nor as rambunctious as his uncles and aunts had been, but rather a calm yet stubborn child; Lin Xiaoguai saw resemblances to her daughter-in-law in him.
A half a year quickly passed, and Lin Xiaoguai handed Little Zhilia to Mrs. Zhang while rubbing her sore hands, “This boy is growing so fast, just half a year old and already so heavy.”
“It’s a blessing for a child to be chubby. Back in our days, we had nothing to eat, and the children were skinny, with yellow faces. Who could have such good times?” Mrs. Zhang laughed.
Lin Xiaoguai also laughed, then asked, “Have Little Niangao and Shanshan come back yet?”
“Not yet, the young master and young mistress have been reunited after a long time, they must certainly have a basketful of things to talk about,” Mrs. Zhang replied.
Lin Xiaoguai smiled upon hearing this, then added, “Zeng Yi will be coming over as well, right? Later, ask Xiao Liu to prepare some dishes that he can still eat.”
“I’d remembered that even if you hadn’t mentioned it, madam.”
Over the years, the friendship between Zeng Yi and Shen Yinian had indeed remained steadfast, especially after both had chosen to join the navy.
“By the way, where’s Zhang Xin? I haven’t seen her for several days,” Lin Xiaoguai suddenly remembered and asked.
Mrs. Zhang’s expression faltered, then she said, “She mentioned that she’s busy with schoolwork. A couple of days ago, she asked me for money to go rent a place to live.”
“What?” Lin Xiaoguai was shocked, “Why didn’t you tell me about this?” She didn’t believe that Mrs. Zhang, who lived so closely with them, would fail to understand Zhang Xin’s aversion to Jian’an. With that in mind, why would she let her move out like this?
At those words, Mrs. Zhang fell silent for a while before saying, “Madam, is our Jian’an really that bad?”
