CHAPTER 198: CHAPTER 68: END OF THE VARIETY SHOW, VISIT FROM THE IRON-EATING BEAST_3

Seeing Du Xixi casually giving Miao Miao some food without a care, Sun Mulin felt relieved in his heart. For some unknown reason, even though Du Xixi was more gentle than Ke Lian and got along well with his brothers, he found himself instinctively cautious in front of her.

Not only did he not dare to speak loudly, his movements... Sun Mulin shifted his position and felt uncomfortable sitting as bonelessly as he usually did.

He actually wanted to sit upright? This was a feeling he only had when facing his mother at home as a child!

Sun Mulin quickly shook his head, losing a bit of interest even in the delicious food. He must be hallucinating. How could such a gentle and gracious sister-in-law be compared to his "Master Extinction" at home!

"Master Extinction": It is said that under the rod, a filial son emerges. Although the son is a bit older now, it isn’t too late to start beating him.

Du Xixi: ...

After dinner, Du Xixi rubbed her pregnant belly and saw Sun Mulin driving off hurriedly in his hovercar. She felt a bit puzzled: "Why do I feel like Mulin is somewhat afraid of me?"

Ever since Du Xixi awakened her spiritual power, her perception had greatly improved, especially regarding people’s emotions.

Just now, she clearly felt that fleeting moment of fear from Sun Mulin toward her. However, the fear was only transient, so Du Xixi didn’t pay much attention to it. But now, seeing Sun Mulin flee, she felt he might really be afraid of her.

But... why? She was so gentle! So kind! So filled with maternal aura! Unhappily, Du Xixi hummed, her emotions written all over her face.

Ke Lian chuckled, patting her shoulder, gesturing for Miao Miao, eager to return to the room to read, to leave on her own, and then led Du Xixi outside for a walk.

The courtyard lights were remodeled by 2569 into a warm light yellow, shedding spots of light on the flowers and plants, as well as on Du Xixi and Ke Lian, casting two closely-knit deep black shadows on the ground.

Ke Lian held Du Xixi’s hand, carefully watching her step, while answering her question: "He is indeed a bit afraid of you. I guess it’s probably because you’re pregnant."

"I’m pregnant? And he’s afraid of me?" Du Xixi’s steps slowed down. She had never heard of pregnancy being able to scare someone, yet she didn’t doubt Ke Lian’s guess, thinking only that what Sun Mulin feared... was truly peculiar!

"Sun Mulin’s mother was very strict with him, always wanting to nurture him into an exceptional literary talent." Apparently, Ke Lian had witnessed the strictness of Sun’s mother too; even with his calm demeanor, he felt somewhat empathetic, "But Sun Mulin’s nature is unrestrained; the stricter his mother was, the more rebellious Sun Mulin became. Gradually, Sun Mulin developed his current personality, along with a bit of estrangement from his mother."

"So, because I’m pregnant, Sun Mulin subconsciously thinks I’ll be as strict as Aunt Sun, and that’s why he’s afraid of me?" Du Xixi frowned, figuring out what Ke Lian was going to say next on her own, without needing further explanation.

Ke Lian hummed noncommittally, neither confirming nor denying Du Xixi’s speculation, as he didn’t believe his guess was entirely accurate about why Sun Mulin feared Du Xixi.

As night fell, Du Xixi and Ke Lian retired early to their room for rest. The next morning, Ke Lian still had to head to the Military Department to continue work.

As expected, Du Xixi woke up slightly later the next day, with Ke Lian, who had been lying by her side, already out for work. He hadn’t worked during the three days he participated in the variety show, so he needed to handle the accumulated military affairs in the following days.

Luckily, Ke Lian had delegated authority to his trusted aides, otherwise, with three days’ worth of military tasks piling up, he might have been exhausted to death in the Military Department trying to complete them.

After washing up, Du Xixi went downstairs and saw Miao Miao holding a thick book, watching it seriously, as if contemplating its contents while reading.

Du Xixi hesitated a bit but ultimately didn’t go and disturb her. Instead, she quietly had 2569 bring breakfast along to the courtyard with her.

Ke Lian had designed a beautiful swing, arc-shaped and quite large, allowing Du Xixi to lay completely inside.

Now, the simulated weather had transitioned into autumn. Although the heat in the air hadn’t fully dissipated, a slight chill rose up the ankles when the breeze blew.

Sitting on the swing, wrapped in a moderately thick blanket to prevent chills from the early autumn moisture, Du Xixi took breakfast from 2569 and began eating slowly.

Having learned to make pan-fried buns from Du Xixi, 2569, although still lacking in skill somewhat, made ones that Du Xixi usually liked, especially when she was too lazy to cook herself in the kitchen.

As the meat juices filled her mouth, Du Xixi was squinting contentedly when the doorbell rang outside the villa. Not only did Du Xixi and 2569 look towards the door, but even Miao Miao, who was seriously reading in the living room, lifted her head.

"Madam!" 2569, internally connected to a camera outside the door, reacted with some wonder upon seeing the visitors, "There are three Iron-eating Beasts outside! One big and two small! Black and white! The Iron-eating Beasts you really like, Madam!"
