CHAPTER 204: BATTLE OF EASTERN MAEGRATH (6)

Khatu was naturally displeased, his gaze turning a few degrees colder.

Zephyron might be a Magna, but at the same time, he was but a puny human, wasn’t he?

The audacity of these dogs from the lesser race!

Had it not been for the advantageous location of their continent, they’d long fallen, perhaps even before the Dragonkin and the Elves did.

The Fell Leader, unable to control his emotions any longer, disappeared.

Khatu then reappeared beside Zephyron, locking the space and the void around him and preventing the Magna from using a spatial spell to reposition.

’What? That’s it?’ inwardly sneered the fell leader, as his claws made a grasping motion, ripping apart the space around Zephyron, which included every atom in the affected area, and, naturally, the Magna himself.

The Fire and Chaos Platoon members, who were watching from beneath, were horrified at the sight of Stiff Face being helplessly ripped to shreds.

But there was something strange about everything that had just occurred; there was no blood.

A voice then echoed in the breeze, mocking: "Laughable."

Khatu sensed danger in the next instant, and the fell leader immediately used Blink to get out of the way of something unseen yet lethal.

In just two moments, Khatu of the Kata clan had managed to attack and retreat to his initial position, just in front of his four most-trusted subordinates, including Yisu.

But he looked nowhere near what he did earlier.

On his purple-skinned neck was a fairly deep gash that narrowly avoided a vital spot, while three out of his five fingers on his left hand had been severed, with viscous, purple blood dripping down from the dismemberment.

"You dare look for Kalna when you can’t even touch me, the weakest of the Magna Novem? Aren’t you people from the fell race getting too ahead of yourselves?"

The humans, too, had their strongest.

The Magna Novem wasn’t just an empty title, and Khatu Kata was only learning about it now.

He had never fought a Magna before.

However, based on the stories of the older Fellkin, Magnas weren’t that strong, and there was one in the past ripped apart by the Maligna Seres of that generation in mere seconds.

These stories were what led Khatu to believe that he himself could take on one.

Perhaps even Kalna, the Magna who wields the power of time, wouldn’t be as strong as the humans advertised.

Khatu understood that morale was important, and this was probably the reason why the humans were making up stories about how mighty their Magna Novem were.

In short, he wasn’t convinced, though he had no choice but to be convinced now.

The fell leader’s heart raced and his blood ran cold, realizing how narrowly he escaped death just now.

"Lord Khatu," Yisu called with a worried tone, evidently shaken by the Wind Magna’s might.

She, too, did not expect that Zephyron Haldavar was this strong.

The mission’s success might be in jeopardy.

It wasn’t only Khatu’s direct underlings who were shaken by the results of the initial clash, evident in how, beneath them, the Fell Cohorts were being pushed back by the Zephyr Battalion.

If even Khatu Kata couldn’t deal with Zephyron, then wouldn’t they simply lose the battle?

It was pointless to continue.

Or so they thought...

Khatu’s schemes ran deeper than they expected, and even now, as long as the fell leader managed to hold his own against Zephyron for just long enough, the humans would be wiped out.

This was the reason why Khatu wasn’t disheartened.

Well, maybe a little, but the fell leader believed that he merely had to adjust his approach.

It was unfortunate that it might be a bit difficult for him to defeat the Wind Magna in a glorious duel to the death.

However, what about a skirmish?

He refused to believe that the humans were stronger than his cohort

If one of them could hold their own against Yisu for a whole minute, then he’d be surprised.

Basically, Khatu’s battle plan now revolved around him holding his own against Zephyron while his subordinates slaughtered the Magna’s underlings, then they could attempt to take Zephyron’s life together.

"What, after all that tough talk, you’ll just cower away?" sneered Zephyron, who materialized from a breeze of fallen leaves a distance away from the hesitating Fell Cohort. "Aren’t you just like the others?"

The next moment, the Wind Magna disappeared.

It was time for the counteroffensive.

A little over a hundred invisible wind cutters—detectable only through one’s senses and a spell with a True Sight property—materialized above Khatu and his cohort, moving towards them from different angles, and at a lethal speed.

"You underestimate me, Magna!" roared Khatu, knowing what Zephyron was up to.

A spatial dome emerged from within the fell leader, covering Yisu and the others.

The invisible wind cutters suddenly glowed a translucent purple the moment they entered the dome and slowed down to an evadable speed.

The Fell Cohort’s eyes widened at the sight of so many Wind Cutters.

However, they were ultimately able to dodge everything in their limited but safe space.

Zephyron was about to launch a subsequent attack, but the active Deceleration Spatial Dome forced him to stop.

It would be meaningless to attack Khatu and his cohort inside the dome.

"Heh, pathetic," he could only sneer once more.

On the positive side, this gave his subordinates time to set the area up.

Numerous wind elemental traps, ranging from notification-types to movement impairment, and then to lethal ones, were placed all over the location.

Meanwhile, inside his Deceleration Spatial Dome, Khatu analyzed how Zephyron fought, planning how to deal with him in the few precious moments his protective dome provided to them.

’Invisibility and probably speed, huh?’ the fell leader pondered, time ticking down.

If this is the core of Zephyron’s fighting style, then he might’ve been too hasty in deciding he couldn’t take the Magna in a duel.

He had ways to deal with both.

However, victory would probably cost him heavily. Maybe he would have to empty his manapool.

’But wasn’t a victory against a Magna worth it?’ the fell leader mused.

If the Magna Novem were this strong, then even slaying the weakest among them would catapult him to a great status within their society, no?

Soon, the Deceleration Spatial Dome dissipated, but with its vanishment came Khatu’s renewed confidence.

He shall attempt to ascend the ladder of fell greatness.
