CHAPTER 218: SPELL ATTRIBUTES

’Phew...’

Hal took a deep breath.

He had just finished drawing [Rare]-tier cards 400 times, and with the [10x Draw] function, everything was over in just a little over a minute.

He would’ve normally savored all 400 draws, investing a total of 20,000 points in them.

However, they were already close to the sealed entrance, and he couldn’t take his time this time.

He was still happy that he managed to draw 147 [Rare]-tier cards, nonetheless, although he hadn’t checked any of them yet.

He still had 10,000 points to spend.

This time, and for the first time, in [Unique]-tier Draws costing a hundred Chaos Points each.

[Unique]-tier spells were quite the strange ones of the pack, and their effectiveness couldn’t actually be graded.

It was just that they were far stranger than most spells, and they specialize in a certain thing, hence the term "Unique".

There were rarely any direct offensive spells in this category.

Most were used to either enhance offense, defense, or other aspects of a combat wizard, such as senses.

Unfortunately, Hal, who wasn’t such a studious individual, didn’t know this.

He was hoping to obtain something similar to a single-target obliteration beam that would kill his opponent instantly.

’But first..let’s check the rates...’

==

Unique-Tier Draw Success Rates:

Rare-tier spell card = 15.35%

Unique-tier spell card = 7.72%

==

’What the hell?!’

And this was after he had already upgraded the draw rates multiple times!

What pleased him a bit, however, was that there were no draw rates for [Common] and [Uncommon]-tier spell cards.

It would be a bit annoying for such low-tier cards to compete with higher chances against the [Unique]-tier ones he desperately wanted.

As for [Rare]-tier cards, they were a welcome addition.

Soon, Hal began tapping away, notifications appearing one after another:

[Boohoo! No Cards drawn!]

[Boohoo! No Cards drawn!]

[Congratulations! You have drawn a [Rare]-tier card!]

[Boohoo! No Cards drawn!]

[Boohoo!...]

’Ahh...who knew I would miss this darned feeling?’

Drawing [Common] and [Uncommon]-tier spell cards hadn’t been so thrilling as of late, and this time, since the draw rates were far higher, the [Rare]-tier draws didn’t make his heart bleed.

But the [Unique]-tier draws...

They returned the accursed sensation, increasing his anticipation and satisfaction for when he finally drew his first [Unique]-tier card.

Oh, how sweet it would be!

Unfortunately, even after twenty-seven draws, all he got were seven [Rare]-tier cards.

The one a tier higher remained elusive.

’Damn it, I deserve one right about now, no?!’ he raged inwardly.

It was fortunate that he was currently invisible. Otherwise, his subordinates would see this ugly side of him.

Hal Fennec, the hopeless gacha-addict.

[Boohoo! No Cards drawn!]

[Boohoo! No Cards drawn!]

’Oh come on! What a fucking rigged draw!!’ he complained.

But then, like a mentally and emotionally challenged individual, his anger all vanished in the next moment, and his mood immediately shifted to the other end after hearing the sweet dinging sound of a notification that read:

[Congratulations! You have drawn a [Unique]-tier card!]

’Yes!!! Hahahahahaha!! F*cking yes!! Finally!’

He quickly tapped on the [View Card] option, prompting a window to appear:

==

Card Name: Breathing Room

Rarity: Unique-Tier

Type: Spatial/Wind

Durability: Permanent

Cooldown: 180 seconds

Chaos Karma cost: 20 + 1 / second

Description: Veils the user in a thin, spatial barrier with an infinite supply of breathable air; prevents water from entering and purifies unbreathable air.

Note: This spell does not protect the caster from other spells.

==

Hal froze, unsure of what to feel.

It was an incredibly useful spell card, but it wouldn’t save him from a darned fell horde, would it?

’At least the durability is permanent...’

He could only proceed to draw more cards with a slight scowl.

Around twenty more draws later, he got another:

==

Card Name: Mundane Zone

Rarity: Unique-Tier

Type: Sealing

Durability: 2 uses

Cooldown: 600 seconds

Chaos Karma cost: 150 + 10 / second

Description: Establishes a small and sturdy domain where spells are prohibited.

Note: Affects the caster.

==

Hal was already inwardly celebrating while reading the card’s information, until he read the note at the bottom.

’WHO THE HELL WOULD EVEN MAKE SUCH A USELESS SPELL?! WHAT, SHOULD WE HUMANS FIGHT AGAINST BEASTS, MONSTERS, AND THE FELL, WITH SWORDS AND SPEARS?!’ he cursed, his thoughts muddled by his growing frustrations. ’DUMB!’

There were certainly uses for this spell.

It was just that his turbulent heart and mind didn’t allow him to think of them.

He then drew two more cards with questionable uses, angering Hal to the point of making him close the system in sheer rage.

’Embodying Chaos my ass! Maybe that god or whatever just loves torturing me with lousy draws?!’ he cursed inwardly.

But Hal suddenly remembered that they were only around fifteen minutes away from the sealed entrance, and that he still had to merge his cards and do a quick scan of the effects of the new ones, especially the [Rare]-tier cards.

He couldn’t allow his emotions to get the best of him.

Fortunately, he remembered that he had the [Common]-tier [Serene] spell, which would allow him to calm his heart with every subsequent usage.

Hal was able to restore his mental state after merely ten seconds, slightly shivering at the thought of how the system’s draw function poisons the mind and agitates the heart.

’I should avoid drawing high-tier cards before a battle as much as possible...’ he noted to himself, realizing that losing a lot of Chaos Points to the accursed [Boohoo] notification wasn’t good for his heart and rationality.

Hal then tapped on his left wrist, merging every card he could while avoiding the Summon-type ones.

He could use the limited-use ones as bait.

After all, even if they get destroyed, it would only be the charge of the spell that would be wasted, unlike a permanent-durability summon-type spell card, which would break if the summon dies.

It was better to keep a few disposable level zeroes in his arsenal.

Having invested 16,080 Chaos Points in the [Common]-tier draws, almost all the cards Hal had in the said tier had surpassed level 100, some even making it to almost level 160

The [Weak Mana Blast], for one, had reached a whopping 158, while his trusty [Glacier Shard] made it to 151.

Just when Hal was about to move on to the [Uncommon]-tier cards, he noticed that there was a strange plus-sign at the lower left part of every spell card that passed level 100.

There were a little over sixty cards that had the said sign.

Hal tapped on the sign on the [Weak Mana Blast] spell card in curiosity, prompting a small selection panel to appear:

==

Please select an attribute to infuse into the spell card:

[Speedy]: Increase the spell’s speed by 30%.

[Piercing]: Increase the spell’s piercing capabilities by 30%.

[Explosive]: Makes the spell detonate upon contact, dealing an additional 30% damage.

[Sneaky]: The spell generates 50% less sound when cast.

==

Hal’s eyes momentarily widened, and his heart raced.

Attributes!

’So a spell would gain an attribute after reaching a certain mastery, huh?’ he mused, ’I wonder how this works in a regular scenario...’

The [Weak Mana Blast] spell wasn’t too powerful, so increasing its piercing capabilities wouldn’t be too effective.

The [Explosive] attribute seemed great.

However, the spell’s limitation is its weak damaging capabilities, and the additional 30% damage wouldn’t be much.

This attribute would probably do better on spells like [Fireball].

The [Sneaky] attribute, on the other hand, was quite tempting, but it would be better to apply it to a spell he could use to assassinate his opponents from the shadows.

And the [Weak Mana Blast] just wasn’t such a spell.

So, Hal tapped on the [Speedy] attribute.

The small panel then disappeared, revealing the changes in the [Weak Mana Blast] spell card.

Hal quickly checked the card information:

==

Card Name: Weak Mana Blast

Rarity: Common

Attributes: Speedy

Type: Chaos

Durability: Permanent

Cooldown: 0.5 seconds

Chaos Karma cost: 1

Description: Shoots a small sphere of mana that detonates upon contact.
