My Joker System: From Low Mana Trash to the Mightiest Wizard!
Chapter 290 290: Unexpected Alliance
The same spine-chilling yet beautiful cries sounded another time, followed by a loud, dull thud.
This was the only information Hal had, and he could only imagine that whatever the other beast was, it was now entangled in a battle against the guardian.
For a moment, he was petrified in place.
Should he use this chance to safely flee? He could plan and return later.
'No…'
Whatever plan he could come up with, it could never be greater than the chance he had now, no?
He should take this chance and enter the Temple of Chaos.
'But would Chaos allow things to be this easy?'
The two beasts in front of him were fighting full-throttle in front of him, and if he just chose to ignore them, he could easily reach the entrance…
The fact that things could be this easy after seeming impossible to complete just a few days earlier made him doubt the 'chance.'
'Chance…'
Perhaps he was looking at this differently?
Maybe the chance was the one in front of him, not the free pass to the entrance?
Maybe he was meant to defeat the guardian with the creature that suddenly came out of nowhere and attacked the Sea Dragon?
Dragons were special-grade creatures, and even a party of master wizards isn't guaranteed to take one down.
They could even very well be wiped out themselves.
Now, he would be fighting one with a random ally from the wild seas.
While he believed his combat capabilities were at least of the high A-rank, it seemed way too much to face one for the current him.
But his intuition was screaming at him.
'Slay the guardian…'
He had a bad feeling that he would lose his chance if he went down to the island first to check whether he could enter the temple or not.
'Fine then, let's kill this damned dragon first!'
He would still be able to easily enter the temple by swimming over the Sea Dragon's corpse, anyway…
Having decided what to do, Hal's gaze grew determined, and he quickly swapped one of his [Unique]-tier cards in.
Then, with a snap of his fingers, an extremely bright wisp of light appeared a few centimeters above his head, illuminating a far larger area than [Illuminate] did.
His heart skipped a beat after finally seeing the two massive beasts in almost their entirety.
Their tails were hidden in the darkness.
However, their heads and long bodies were now fully visible.
Hissing across the Sea Dragon was a colossal Serpent with a long, V-shaped antenna extending backwards, unsettling yet mystical frills covering its ears, and damaged, pinkish-white scales.
Its vicious, X-shaped pupils with a crimson dot in the middle contracted in utter fury as it bit back at the Sea Dragon, whose maws were latched onto its body.
The white-scaled serpent thrashed its head in an attempt to tear a part of the Sea Dragon's flesh.
But the guardian's scales and flesh were just as tough as the invader's.
Still, it seemed like the dragon's attack was doing more damage.
As ferocious as the white-scaled serpent was, it seemed that its body would give way first.
It was then that a thin ray of light and a crackling spear of thunder tore through the water.
The projectiles pierced through the tough scales. However, they couldn't pierce too deeply into the flesh.
The [Piercing Light] dealt minimal damage.
The [Thunder Spear], on the other hand, forced the Sea Dragon to let go as thunder raged in its entire long body, paralyzing it for a short moment.
Having already survived in the wild for more than a decade, the white-scaled serpent was sensitive to and immediately took advantage of the unexpected opening, letting go before biting again, this time close to the Sea Dragon's throat.
The guardian cried in pain.
But just like earlier, the damage was but a moderate wound, far from enough to take the Sea Dragon's life.
Still, the white-scaled invader seemed content just biting down hard at such a vital spot.
"Nice, hold it down for me!" Hal remarked in delight, sending a vicious middle finger the guardian's way.
But nothing seemed to have happened.
He didn't stop at that, though, immediately thrusting both palms forward and following up with two more devastating spells.
A decimating wave of light ripped a lot of scales off and lightly scorched the Sea Dragon's flesh.
As for the [Gravity Ball], its visuals underwater were quite fancy, but it did very little damage.
Nonetheless, both [Rare]-tier spells chipped at the Sea Dragon's defenses.
Perhaps these openings would be enough for the white-scaled serpent.
But how could a mighty member of the dragon race allow its prideful self to be overwhelmed so easily?
It thrashed wildly, not caring one bit about the possibility of its throat getting ripped off.
The guardian's tail also whipped at Hal, forcing him to dodge.
The Sea Dragon managed to escape the white-scaled serpent's grasp in the next moment.
In utter fury, the guardian beast did something Hal didn't expect: it summoned aqua tornadoes that made the waters rage wildly.
The invader wasn't too affected, but Hal was…
'F*ck!'
With a desperate curse, he could only swim away, forced to watch from a distance as the two aquatic beasts resumed their battle.
He was too far to even attempt another middle-finger attack.
The only spells he could use from such a distance were the [Common]-tier ones.
And so, those were what he used, firing [Sparkblast]s, [Glow Needle]s, [Weak Mana Blast]s, and other similar spells.
At least while he was thinking of what to do.
They did very little, if not zero damage.
But what could Hal do?
Unlike the two beasts, he was no aquatic creature.
He could only hope that the aqua tornadoes would disappear soon so he could help the white-scaled invader.
'Don't you die on me now, serpent!'
Unfortunately, it didn't seem like the destructive water-elemental spell would time out anytime soon.
He had to think of other ways to help the white-scaled serpent.
