Chapter 295: THE MAIN CHARACTERS
CHAPTER 295: THE MAIN CHARACTERS
LEE SEODAM’s retaliation was horrific.
Even Wonhee didn’t expect that the heartless bastard would release a deadly air-borne disease.
Apparently, it was a virus created by the Anti-System Virus itself.
It immediately killed all the surviving Civilians in South Korea.
On the other hand, the Awakened People got sick— really sick.
Coughing up blood.
High fever.
Weakening body.
Those were the three effects of the deadly air-borne virus on an Awakened Person.
Unfortunately, Yeon Soobin and Jang Semi were heavily affected because Lee Seodam dropped the "bomb" containing the virus on Yeon Soobin and Jang Semi’s residences.
That bastard is really determined to kill everyone dear to me.
The deadly air-borne virus had already disappeared, so no new victims had emerged.
However, those who survived were still on the verge of dying.
Just like Soobin Oppa and Semi Unnie.
"Administrator-nim, I don’t think this world is still worth saving," Wonhee said weakly while lying down on her bed. Of course, she was also affected by the deadly air-borne virus. Not as much as the others, though. After all, she still had the System and the Tower’s protection. However, her heart had grown weaker than her body. "It’s too late, isn’t it? Even if I take away the power of the bastards who caused this tragedy, the dead wouldn’t return."
And more than half of the world’s population had already died.
The remaining half was either dying from war or poverty— or both.
"This world isn’t worth living anymore," Wonhee said bitterly. "I’m sorry, but I think we’re already too late."
"The System isn’t here to give a response, but the Tower agrees with you, Guide Chu Wonhee," the Administrator, now in his human form, said while sitting on the chair next to her bed. "But the Tower said you misunderstood its intention."
"What did I misunderstand?"
"The Tower didn’t ask for your lifespan to save this world."
"Then what does it need my lifespan for?"
"Restart."
It was just one word.
However, it was enough to bring hope to Wonhee’s dying heart. "Are you saying that the Tower can restart the world?"
"We can do it if the System and your friend return safely."
She immediately got up.
Of course, Ong Yool would return safely— he was just that kind of person.
"My best friend isn’t the type to fail," Wonhee said confidently, and then she clutched her chest. "Is the portal that the Tower trying to open a portal that will help us return to the past?"
"I cannot answer that question."
"Why not? I already know everything."
"Guide Chu Wonhee, you only know the gist. The Tower allows you to know that much because you deserve the truth after all your sacrifices. However, we cannot tell you the details," the Administrator said while shaking his head. "We cannot tell you because speaking our plan into existence is like manifesting it to happen. A manifestation big enough to change the current world would reach the Virus. Hence, we have to be quiet about our goal."
Ah.
Wonhee knew that she understood.
However, she couldn’t really think straight.
"Get up, Guide Chu Wonhee."
"Can I rest for a bit?"
"A week from now, Hunter Lee Seodam will return to Korea with a stronger group. It seems like the Virus has already realized that you can’t take away the abilities of the "children" under its protection," the Administrator said. "Because if you have that ability, you could have taken it away from the Hunter who spread the deadly air-borne virus."
Ah, so that was a test.
Those bastards killed thousands of people just to test if my ability works on them or not.
Unforgivable.
"I know that you’re getting weaker because of the portal growing in your heart, and the virus that infected you recently," the Administrator said while getting up from his seat. "That’s why we need to awaken Hunter Hwang Yejun— before you lose all strength."
Ah, how cruel.
But what could she do? This was her fate.
"I’ll file a complaint to the Tower later," Wonhee said, forcing herself to get up. "Once the world restarts and I gain my old strength, I’ll hunt it down and punch it in the face."
***
SUNG MOONHO, who also got sick because of the virus, must be suffering even more after his building was bombed.
It was practically erased from the map.
Hence, Wonhee found himself in the middle of what seemed like an abandoned city— no signs of life, only ruined skyscrapers.
Ah, no.
There was a sign of life out there.
The huge block of ice in front of Wonhee was the "ice coffin" where Hwang Frost was trapped.
Moonho-ssi’s building was pulverized, but not this.
"Wake up— you’re humanity’s only hope now, Hwang Frost," Wonhee pleaded in a weak and cracked voice. "Please wake up. You’re the strongest Hunter in the world."
There was something that Wonhee realized after talking to the Administrator about resetting the world.
She would probably be dead once that happened.
After all, my body would turn into a portal then.
So, perhaps, she wouldn’t be able to contribute much after that.
"You’re the only person who can reset the world after I die, Hwang Frost."
As if to prove that her theory was correct, she coughed up blood.
However, she didn’t stop talking to Hwang Frost.
"We have to reset the world to correct our mistakes," Wonhee said weakly while wiping the blood off her mouth with the back of her hand. "There are so many bastards here who don’t deserve to awaken after the reset."
She didn’t know how to wake up Hwang Frost, though.
And there was a storm in her mind that was preventing her from thinking straight.
So, all she could do was to grab a stone.
She knew that it was useless, but she still tried to break the block of ice with that stupid stone while begging the man trapped there.
"So you better wake up now, Hwang Frost," Wonhee said, pressing her forehead against the ice wall before she closed her eyes. She dropped the stone when her hand weakened, so the only thing she could do was try to use her Mana in an attempt to break the ice even though she wasn’t a Hunter. "I’ll be your Guide, so please be my Hunter."
As she said earlier, she used her Mana to break the ice.
However, something else happened.
This feeling...
Wonhee raised her head, her hands still placed on the block of ice. "It’s absorbing my Mana...?"
Guiding.
She gasped when the realization hit her.
Hunter Hwang Frost is forcing me to guide him!
CRAAACK.
Long cracks quickly appeared on the block of ice.
Wonhee’s alarm went off in her head, so she quickly jumped away.
And she did the right thing,
After all, the block of ice suddenly exploded.
She raised her arms and created a shield to protect herself from the sharp broken pieces of ice. And the blinding light that came with it.
Then, a few moments later...
ARGH!
Wonhee felt her back hit the cold and hard ground as if something pounced on her.
When she opened her eyes...
Red glowing eyes, white and bluish hair, handsome face.
This is Hwang Frost...?
"A herbivore?" Hwang Frost asked coldly, tilting his head to one side. "Can I eat you?"
Wonhee let out a sharp breath, slightly scared. "No, sir, I don’t taste good..."
