CHAPTER 34: THE CONFESSION

"HOW?"

"Do you remember when you told me that the Guides they "offered" to you were Guides who took drugs for Forced Awakening?" Wonhee asked Yejun. "Do you have proof that those Guides were awakened unnaturally?"

"I don’t have solid evidence, but I know the truth," Yejun said confidently. "They can’t deceive my senses."

"Unfortunately, people won’t believe you because you haven’t stabilized yet," she said while shaking her head. "We need to gather evidence that President Kwon is involved in the Black Market first."

"Oh. So, we’re going to blackmail him?"

"Not yet," Wonhee said while shaking her head. "We don’t have solid evidence yet that APA is involved with the people who make those drugs, so you have to pretend that you don’t remember anything while you were locked up in the basement, Yejun-ah. We have to convince them that you weren’t in your right mind then so they won’t suspect you."

"Ah, that’s easy," Yejun said, laughing until his eyes had turned into little crescent moons. "I’m good at acting like a crazy dog."

[Because you are one...?]

Fortunately, Wonhee didn’t say that out loud.

Anyway, she had something to ask The System. So, she turned to the Status Window in front of her.

"Tangerine Fairy, am I allowed to tell other people about the mission I received from The System?" Wonhee asked carefully. "Of course, I’m not going to tell everyone. I just believe that Soobin Oppa, Geon Oppa, and Semi Unnie deserve to know the truth because they are my guardians. Plus, I want to tell Ahyeon and Yool, too since they’re my best friends. I hope you let me inform those five people about my situation."

The Status Window fell silent for a moment.

Tangerine Fairy: The System allowed it. Yeon Soobin, Shin Geon, and Jang Semi are people that The System chose itself. Do Ahyeon is someone who’s always by your side, so he should know about your situation. Ong Yool is a special existence, hence he’s also allowed to know the truth.

’Ong Yool.’

That was her friend’s original name and not ’Gong Yool.’

[So, The System didn’t make a mistake?]

Tangerine Fairy: The System wants to remind you that only those five people are allowed to know about your mission related to your mission to save Hwang Yejun. Yejun turned to Wonhee with a curious look on his (ridiculously) handsome face. "You can only guide Awakened People with S-Class grades and above?"

Wonhee nodded and was about to explain more when she was forced to stop talking.

After all, a loud "knock" on the door literally shook the room.

[Well, it’s more like someone punched the wall...]

"Hwang Frost, bring out my baby sister if you want to live."

That scary voice...

Wonhee’s face lit up. "Soobin Oppa!"

"Hee-ya, you’re awake?"

The scary voice that she heard earlier suddenly turned into a friendly and warm voice.

Wonhee smiled awkwardly.

[My oppa changes his attitude when I’m around, huh?]

Yejun clicked his tongue, annoyed. "We’re having a good atmosphere here and that Hyung has to ruin it, huh?"

"HAAAH."

Wonhee felt nervous while watching Soobin heave a long and frustrated sigh.

Right now, they were in Geon’s office.

Wonhee and Yejun were sitting side-by-side across from Soobin and Geon, with Wonhee facing her older brother.

"So, not only did you awaken as an S-Class Guide," Soobin said, looking at Wonhee with a worried look on his face. "But you also became Hwang Frost’s Exclusive Guide?"

Wonhee nodded her head. "Yes, Oppa..."

"Hee-ya, you should have consulted me and Semi Noona first."

Wonhee just lowered her gaze while her brother was scolding her.

Yejun, on the other hand, scoffed. "Why does Wonhee need your permission? She’s a grown ass woman, Soobin Hyung. She can decide for herself."

"Hwang Frost, watch your language around my baby sister."

"She’s not a "baby.""

"You–"

"Stop fighting, you two," Geon scolded Soobin and Yejun, then he turned to her with a kind smile on his face. "Hee-ya, there’s another reason why Soobin is worried. Actually, a newly awakened Guide like you isn’t allowed to make a contract with a Hunter right away. Moreover, Hwang Frost is registered as an X-Class Hunter. That means he’s supposed to be inactive. To simply put, the contract that the two of you made is invalid."

Wonhee gasped when she realized her mistake.

Right.

She bypassed the correct process!

[Why did I only remember the rules now?]

"I’m sorry, Geon Oppa," Wonhee said to his brother-in-law. "As the director of the National Guide Center, it’s your job to assign a Guide to the Hunters..."

"It’s alright, Hee-ya," Geon said, smiling. "But I’m curious as to why you and Hwang Frost made a contract right away." Her brother-in-law turned to Yejun with a sharp gaze. "Hwang Frost, you’re not a newbie. You know that a newly awakened Guide can’t make a contract with a Hunter without either the APA or the Center’s approval. Why didn’t you tell Hee-ya about that rule?"

Oh, right.

[Yejun is a part of the Big 4, so there’s no way he doesn’t know the rules...]

"It was an emergency," Yejun said casually. "We just had to."

Ah.

Wonhee appreciated the fact that Yejun was keeping the truth from Soobin and Geon for her sake.

"Emergency?" Soobin asked worriedly. "What emergency?"

"Hyung, stop yapping," Yejun complained. "I’m starting to get irritated."

Oh, that would be bad.

Wonhee put her hand on top of Yejun’s hand. "Are you alright, Yejun-ah?"

Soobin and Geon both looked shocked by the way Wonhee addressed the X-Class Hunter. "’Yejun-ah?’"

"W-We’re the same age," she said shyly. "We decided to speak comfortably with each other."

Yejun smiled and nodded proudly. "And we also decided to live together."

Soobin and Geon reacted at the same time again. "What?!"

"Yah. Don’t say it in a way that my oppas will misunderstand," Wonhee complained while lightly hitting Yejun on the arm. When Yejun just shrugged, she turned to Soobin and Geon. "Soobin Oppa, Geon Oppa, I need to bring back Yejun’s S-Class Hunter status and free him from APA or else..." She gulped before she continued. "I’ll die."
