My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 101: What If I Divorce Him?
CHAPTER 101: CHAPTER 101: WHAT IF I DIVORCE HIM?
Simon Rhodes’ expression was somewhat gloomy as he said seriously, "Grandpa seems to have learned about your pregnancy."
Shannon Quinn was stunned for a moment, not immediately reacting to what it meant for Grandpa to know about this, her mind went blank.
Since she got pregnant until now, she had never thought about Grandpa.
"Don’t worry too much, Grandpa might just want to understand the situation."
Shannon Quinn hadn’t had much contact with Shane Royale, but she could sense that he was a very strict old man, and she heard that he had a high position in the military before, and the younger generation of the Rhodes family was also managed in a militarized manner. Thinking about having to face Shane Royale, Shannon Quinn felt a little scared.
Following Simon Rhodes to the Rhodes family, usually, every time she came, it was for a gathering, people were everywhere, but today it was much quieter. The vast hall had only a few servants busying themselves.
Under Simon Rhodes’ lead, Shannon Quinn went straight to Shane Royale’s study on the second floor.
"Grandpa." Simon Rhodes knocked on the door.
Upon hearing a vigorous response, Simon Rhodes pushed the door open.
Shannon Quinn meekly followed behind Simon Rhodes as she entered. The old man sat on a single sofa, with a tea set placed on the coffee table in front of him, and the tea seemed freshly brewed, faint wisps of steam could be seen.
"Sit." Shane Royale didn’t even lift his head to glance at Shannon Quinn, gestured to the seat opposite, and then said to Simon Rhodes, "You go out first."
Simon Rhodes hesitated, giving a worried look at Shannon Quinn, then turned and left.
Left alone, Shannon Quinn felt even more nervous, tightly gripping her hands as she walked over to sit down, softly calling out, "Grandpa."
Shane Royale’s expression was sombre, without even basic pleasantries, he asked directly, "Whose child is it?"
Shannon Quinn’s back stiffened, she swallowed her saliva, left speechless, not knowing how to answer.
"Now there are rumors everywhere that the Rhodes family’s second Young Madam is pregnant with a bastard child. Even if you aren’t embarrassed, our Rhodes family cannot afford this disgrace!"
Shannon Quinn couldn’t put into words how she felt inside, there was guilt yet also grievance, more so bewilderment about how the news of her pregnancy got leaked, and Shane Royale’s next sentence provided her with the answer.
"If June Yardley hadn’t come to tell me, were you planning on keeping us all in the dark?!"
"Grandpa... I have already spoken to Vincent about the child, and he agreed to let me keep it."
"Just because he agrees to you giving birth, does it mean you have the face to do so?! You are now a member of the Rhodes family, not those common folks outside, you are tarnishing the Rhodes family’s reputation!"
In this matter, Shannon Quinn was indeed at fault, she did wrong Vincent Rhodes.
"If it hadn’t been for Vincent insisting on marrying you, I would have never agreed to let you enter the Rhodes family’s door; Now that you’re part of the Rhodes family, you must adhere to the rules and be virtuous, mingling outside with wild men is disgraceful!" Shane Royale was obviously quite angry about this issue, taking a sip of tea to calm his anger, he took a deep breath and said, "If you want to remain in the Rhodes family, you must abort the child, and behave in the future, if not..."
"What if I divorce him?" Shannon Quinn interrupted Shane Royale’s words, her tone neither heavy nor light.
Shane Royale clearly didn’t expect her to have such a thought, after all, women outside were eager to squeeze into the Rhodes family, and yet one who got in was talking about divorce herself.
Shannon Quinn took a deep breath, looked up at Shane Royale and said, "I indeed did wrong to Vincent, but I don’t want to lose my child either, if you think I disgraced the Rhodes family, then I can divorce Vincent."
Shane Royale was silent, looking at her, seemingly indecisive.
He himself didn’t mind whether Shannon Quinn stayed or left, but he knew how strong-willed his grandson was, and having just heard that Vincent Rhodes agreed to let this child be born, it showed how much he cared about this woman.
He knew his grandson had a stubborn temperament, this trait was indeed inherited from him.
"You talk it over with him yourself. If he agrees to divorce, I won’t interfere with how you handle the child in your belly. If he disagrees, then you must abort the child—if it is not the Rhodes family’s bloodline I absolutely do not allow it to remain in the Rhodes family!"
Discuss? How could she discuss with him? They had been married for more than two years, and she had only met him a few times.
Moreover, regarding this child, he didn’t seem to care much, after all, it wasn’t his child, with Grandpa insisting on aborting it, he would definitely agree.
As for divorce, she was really uncertain whether Vincent Rhodes would agree.
She never thought Vincent Rhodes loved her much, just felt that perhaps his situation was not good for marriage, having spent so many years to marry her, how could it be possible to say divorce so lightly and easily.
"You can go back; within a week, I want an answer."
Shannon Quinn lowered her eyes, hesitated as if wanting to say something, but in the end, she didn’t speak, got up to leave when Shane Royale called her again: "Oh, there’s one more thing to remind you."
Shannon Quinn stopped, hearing Shane Royale say, "Keep a little distance from Simon, I don’t want to hear any rumors."
"Okay." Shannon Quinn responded and then pushed the door to leave.
Simon Rhodes was standing at the door, seemingly worried for her, as soon as she came out, Simon Rhodes asked, "What happened?"
Shannon Quinn did not hide it, said, "Grandpa asked me to abort the child."
Simon Rhodes was stunned; he knew all the truth, but for a moment, didn’t know how to explain it to Shannon Quinn, nor could he explain.
Shannon Quinn told Simon Rhodes, in fact, hoping he would relay the message to Vincent Rhodes, to see what decision he would make.
"I’ll take you back first."
Remembering Shane Royale’s last words, Shannon Quinn declined, "No need, let Mr. Morgan take me."
Simon Rhodes nodded and gave instructions, after sending Shannon Quinn off, he immediately returned to Shane Royale’s study, "Grandpa."
Shane Royale looked up at him, saying, "There’s no need to plead for her, it’s her own indiscretion, can’t blame others; my Rhodes family cannot tolerate such scandals from happening and becoming a disgrace to future generations."
"The child is Vincent’s."
Shane Royale paused in his action of holding the teacup, and Simon Rhodes continued, "To be precise, it’s Landon Sutton’s, he didn’t let me tell you because he was afraid you would force Shannon to abort the child."
Shane Royale, after sorting out the relationship, slammed the teacup onto the table. "Nonsense! Pure nonsense!"
"Grandpa, I know Vincent was a bit reckless in this matter, but since it has happened, you can’t be heartless to harm your great-grandchild."
"Then what do you suggest we do? There are rumors everywhere that my granddaughter-in-law got pregnant with a bastard outside! Where should I put my old face?! I expected that kid to do no good! Is now the time for children? He just brought this trouble upon himself!"
