My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 109: Distant Cousin
CHAPTER 109: CHAPTER 109: DISTANT COUSIN
Sheila Yardley initially thought she had found a lifeline, but upon hearing Caleb Grant’s words, she instantly realized they were on the same side.
Mr. Morgan hurriedly explained to Caleb Grant, "Misunderstanding, misunderstanding, Mr. Grant, it’s all a misunderstanding. We were just playing around, we’ll leave soon. Let’s have a drink together another day."
Caleb Grant smiled, then as if just recognizing Sheila Yardley, he called out to her, "Elaine?"
Everyone present was taken aback, including Sheila Yardley, who looked at Caleb Grant, wondering how he accurately called her by her nickname. She thought perhaps she had forgotten someone she had met before, but she couldn’t recall this person at all.
Caleb Grant took off his coat, walked towards Sheila Yardley, and Lynn Kendall and Mr. Morgan exchanged a glance before silently making way and watching Caleb Grant drape the coat over Sheila Yardley.
Sheila Yardley was stunned by Caleb Grant’s actions, but having something to cover up with, she didn’t think much about it. She reached out and tightly held onto Caleb Grant’s suit jacket draped on her shoulders.
"Mr. Grant, do you... know each other?" Mr. Morgan asked with confusion.
Caleb Grant responded mildly, "She’s my distant cousin."
Sheila Yardley gave Mr. Morgan an embarrassed look and understood that this man was coming to her rescue.
To be honest, she didn’t know who this "Mr. Grant" was, but it was obvious that Mr. Morgan respected him a lot. Even if Caleb Grant wanted to take her away, Mr. Morgan wouldn’t dare utter a complaint; instead, he repeatedly apologized, "Oh, it’s all a misunderstanding, I didn’t know she was Mr. Grant’s cousin. Excuse my rudeness."
Caleb Grant did not get angry or upset, maintaining a polite and graceful demeanor from beginning to end. As he left, he simply nodded and smiled at Mr. Morgan, saying, "Excuse me."
Mr. Morgan was still worried that Caleb Grant would take issue with him, so when he heard that Caleb was leaving, he couldn’t be happier.
Seeing Caleb Grant take Sheila Yardley away, Lynn Kendall was still unwilling and asked Mr. Morgan, "Who was that guy?"
Mr. Morgan gave her a glare, "How dare you ask! You must have a death wish to meddle with Caleb Grant’s people!"
"What? I just came back to the country; I don’t know the people here. How would I know that girl had connections?"
"I think you just want to kill me! Everyone in the city knows the relationship between Caleb Grant and Landon Sutton. Offending Caleb Grant is like offending Landon Sutton. It’s fine today if he doesn’t pursue the issue, but if he does, neither of us will be held accountable!"
Lynn Kendall was shocked, "Landon Sutton? That girl has such big connections?"
Mr. Morgan sneered and then pulled Lynn Kendall by the arm, bringing her to his side, "The duck on my lips flew away, so we’ll just make do with you tonight."
Lynn Kendall shivered, considering her future, and coyly said to Mr. Morgan, "Mr. Morgan, why are you in such a hurry? If you want a clean young girl, I’ll find one for you another day. There are plenty of schoolgirls, next time I’ll find you a willing one."
Mr. Morgan understood and smiled, then released Lynn Kendall, "Alright then. When I am satisfied, I’ll sign the contract with you."
"Don’t worry, Mr. Morgan, I’ll send someone to your bed another day."
"If you can’t find anyone, you’ll come yourself."
"Certainly."
Mr. Morgan got up and left, and Lynn Kendall spat on the ground with contempt.
Caleb Grant took Sheila Yardley to a room, like a lounge.
"...Thank you." Sheila Yardley, wearing his coat, stood nervously in the room.
Caleb Grant glanced at her casually and asked, "Have you called your parents to pick you up?"
Sheila Yardley felt embarrassed. Did she really look that young?
"My boyfriend will be here soon."
Caleb Grant raised his eyebrows, seemingly surprised that she had a boyfriend.
"Alright then, I had someone bring over a work outfit for you. Wear it for now."
"Thank you."
Caleb Grant finished speaking, turned, intending to leave, but Sheila Yardley hesitated and stopped him, asking the question lingering in her mind, "How did you know my name?"
Caleb Grant paused, then casually said, "Zell said you used to work here, and when he saw you in trouble, he asked me to help out."
Zell was the bartender here, Sheila Yardley recognized him. Now it wasn’t strange why Caleb Grant appeared suddenly, but she was curious and asked another question, "Are you also an employee here?"
Caleb Grant smirked lightly and countered, "Did you really work here?"
Turns out, she didn’t even know he was the owner.
Sheila Yardley hadn’t yet reacted to what he meant by that, and Caleb Grant had already left the room, closing the door behind him.
After he left, Sheila Yardley carefully examined the room.
It didn’t seem to be a simple lounge, as there were signs of living here, and it was obviously a man’s room.
Could Caleb Grant be living here? The employee benefits were too good, weren’t they? The accommodation was so luxurious.
Before she could slowly enjoy the room, someone knocked on the door, delivering clothes.
After receiving the work outfit, Sheila Yardley hurried to change into it, then neatly folded Caleb Grant’s suit and placed it by the bed.
The work outfit was a white shirt, not too mismatched with the jeans she was wearing.
Ryder Griffin called to ask where she was, and Sheila Yardley quickly went to the hotel’s entrance. Seeing Ryder Griffin’s car parked by the roadside, she finally felt she had returned to her haven.
However, she didn’t dare tell Ryder Griffin about what had just happened, partly because she didn’t want him to worry and partly because she feared he would scold her and stop her from working.
In fact, she probably wouldn’t be able to keep this job without Ryder Griffin stopping her.
"Have you been drinking?"
As soon as she got in the car, Ryder Griffin asked.
Knowing she smelled of alcohol, Sheila Yardley didn’t dare lie. She nodded and said, "Just a little beer."
Seeing that Sheila Yardley was sober and not drunk, Ryder Griffin didn’t scold her. As he started the car, he asked, "Will there often be such social events in the future?"
Sheila Yardley shook her head, "Probably not. Do you have something to do tonight?"
She changed the topic.
"What’s up? Do you have plans?"
Sheila Yardley pressed her lips and smiled. Just as she was about to say she wanted to watch a movie, Ryder Griffin saw through her little intention and said, "Another day. I’m working on design drafts these days."
"Alright, but make sure to rest and not overwork yourself."
Ryder Griffin nodded and asked her, "Should I take you directly back to school?"
"Take me to the hospital. I want to visit my mom."
The surgery in the morning was successful, but the follow-up treatment and hospital expenses were another huge cost.
Even though Ryder Griffin was busy, he accompanied her at the hospital to chat with Catherine Yardley for a while before leaving at Catherine’s urging.
As she walked him to the elevator, Ryder Griffin suddenly asked her, "Where did you get the money for this surgery?"
