CHAPTER 13: CHAPTER 13: HE DIDN’T CHOOSE THE WRONG WOMAN

Landon Sutton paused while flipping through the documents, seemingly remembering something, but he wasn’t too concerned, "And then?"

"Hasn’t she been unable to find you during the two years you’ve been at Dragonspire? She comes to the company every now and then, pestering me about your whereabouts, like some kind of clingy plaster. I’m scared of seeing her myself."

"Still coming?"

"Yes! I guess she heard the rumor that you’re back. She came to the company three times this morning. You should take this time to resolve the issue, otherwise, when you return to Dragonspire, I’ll be the one in trouble again."

"What is there to deal with? Are the guards at the door only earning a salary and not doing their jobs?"

Ronan Rhodes hesitantly said, "Master Nate, it’s not that simple. We still have collaboration with the Yardley Group. Besides, I don’t really know your thoughts on this. What if you’re interested in her? Then she could be my future sister-in-law. It would be a big mistake if I drove her away."

Landon hadn’t yet expressed his opinion when Ronan quickly added, "Actually, Claire Yardley is pretty nice. Apart from having a bit of a princess attitude, everything else is fine. The key is, she likes you. It’s been years, and she hasn’t given up despite no news of you. It shows that she truly has a place for you in her heart. Master Nate, you’re not young anymore, so why not just..."

"If you think she’s nice, you marry her." Landon cut off Ronan’s words directly.

Ronan was so startled that he quickly waved his hands, "Forget it, forget it, I can’t afford to offend her. I’ll just look for some troubled young ladies for fun."

Landon was silent for a moment, shifted his focus from the documents, and looked at Ronan, "Just don’t concern yourself with this matter anymore. Tell the guards at the entrance not to let her enter the company at will."

"Isn’t that a bit inappropriate..."

"If it’s not appropriate, then you marry her."

Ronan immediately said, "I’ll go give the instructions now."

After the office quieted down, Landon Sutton leaned back against the chair, closing his eyes with a hint of fatigue.

He reminisced about the scene from that night, his hand unconsciously stroking the smooth surface of the table, as if it were her delicate skin.

He realized that before getting involved, there wasn’t such a strong desire, but after experiencing it once, he kept thinking about it.

Thinking about her beauty.

Fortunately, she was obedient, not doing anything to betray him during their two years apart.

Even when faced with his sarcasm and temptation, she still stood by her principles.

It seems he chose the right woman.

However, she is unaware of the truth, so those events that night must be tormenting her inside, right?

After work, Shannon Quinn went straight home.

All along the way, she kept wondering if Vincent Rhodes would appear again, or if she would see him right away when she opened the door.

The truth proved she was overthinking it; the room was exactly as she had left it.

His appearance last night seemed like a dream.

When it comes to Vincent Rhodes, there’s more curiosity than fear.

No matter how terrifying the outside world claims he is, after all, he’s her husband, and she wants to know more about him, but has no way to do so.

Even the people in the Rhodes Family guess about Vincent based on rumors, and the only one who might know the inside story is Vincent’s brother, Simon Rhodes.

She had tentatively asked Simon once, but his answer was similar to what Vincent told her last night, advising her to not get too involved as knowing too much wouldn’t be good for her.

It started raining again at night. Shannon, lacking inspiration, watched television for a while before lying down in bed.

She didn’t dare to turn off all the lights in the room because she didn’t know if Vincent would come again tonight.

When he came, he would cut off the power in the house, so if the lamp by the bed suddenly went out, it would indicate he had arrived.

Shannon lay wrapped in the quilt, staring at that lamp, unable to sleep soundly.

Her mind was filled with random thoughts, including wondering about the repercussions if she really asked for a divorce.

Back when the family business faced bankruptcy, her family was willing to marry her off to an old man to save the company.

She couldn’t decide her fate, so she compromised.

But then the Rhodes Family offered to pay for her to marry their second young master, notorious like a monster.

Just because the Rhodes Family was powerful, her family sold her off to them for status and prosperity.

She thought her life was ruined, but later realized her life before and after marriage wasn’t much different, and indeed better than marrying that old man.

The Rhodes Family treated her well and honored their promise to salvage the failing company, so if she were to betray them now and ask for a divorce, regardless of whether the Rhodes would agree, her conscience wouldn’t allow it.

The thought of divorce never crossed Shannon Quinn’s mind before Landon Sutton brought it up.

She had no idea when the rain had stopped or when she fell asleep.

When she woke up, it was already daylight outside the window, and the lamp by the bed was still on.

As soon as she woke up, she received a call from Aidan Lockwood, her studio’s boss, "Are you awake?"
