My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 140: Killing with a Borrowed Knife
CHAPTER 140: CHAPTER 140: KILLING WITH A BORROWED KNIFE
The two medical staff walked out of the ward dejectedly, and Shannon Quinn stopped one of them to ask, "What’s wrong with Ms. Kendall?"
"Ah, young girls, you know, after getting disfigured, their emotions run high. And it seems like something else is going badly. All we can do is wait for her to calm down on her own."
"Okay, thank you both."
Shannon Quinn carried a bouquet into the ward and saw Lynn Kendall, whose nose was covered with gauze and face was bruised and swollen. She put the bouquet on the bedside and asked her, "Feeling any better?"
Lynn Kendall began to cry and said, "Shannon, don’t you think this is just too much bullying? Her brother beat me up like this, and the lawyer I hired just told me that Boss Grant intervened, and no matter how much I pay, he doesn’t dare take the case. I also heard that Sheila Yardley’s brother has already been released."
Shannon Quinn paused and asked, "Which Boss Grant?"
"Who else could it be? The owner of that bar we were at last time. They say he’s Sheila Yardley’s distant relative or something. I don’t even know, just a bar owner, how does he have such power?"
Shannon Quinn was initially puzzled as to why everything had escalated so much, and yet, without rhyme or reason, they released someone this morning. Turns out Caleb Grant had intervened.
But this made her even more confused. How on earth could Caleb Grant be some distant relative of the Yardleys? If the Yardley family really had such a relative, their lives wouldn’t be as they are now.
Could it be Sheila Yardley privately asked Caleb Grant for help? Have they been in contact all along?
Even though Caleb Grant is Landon Sutton’s friend, and Landon Sutton has a good relationship with Simon Rhodes, and Landon Sutton talks a good game and is generally a good person, his friends aren’t necessarily the same, like Ronan Rhodes who’s notoriously messy with women.
She’s worried if Sheila Yardley has fallen into Caleb Grant’s trick and gone down some wrong path? Otherwise, why would Caleb Grant help them for no reason?
"You should stop worrying about these things and focus on your recovery."
"Just let them get away with it? She’ll think I’m easy to bully. Who will help me next time this happens?"
"That won’t happen. Those who need to be taught a lesson have been taught. Your main focus should be on recovery; that’s the most important thing."
Lynn Kendall still looked dissatisfied, saying, "They beat me up like this and didn’t even come to the hospital to apologize or check on me. It’s like I don’t exist!"
Just as Shannon Quinn was about to say something, someone else arrived at the door. She wasn’t a stranger, as the visitor was Claire Yardley.
Claire Yardley seemed surprised to see Shannon Quinn there, glanced at her without greeting her, and walked directly to Lynn Kendall’s bedside.
Lynn Kendall started complaining to Claire Yardley, completely painting herself as an innocent and kind victim. Naturally, someone like Claire, who was unaware of the full story, believed Lynn Kendall’s words one hundred percent.
"Lynn, I’ll leave now. Listen to the doctor’s advice and take care of yourself. We’re all waiting for you to return soon," Shannon Quinn said with a smile.
Lynn Kendall nodded, still looking very grateful, and said to Shannon Quinn, "Thank you for visiting me. There must be a lot of work at the office? You should go back. Also, please apologize to Mr. Lockwood for me; I can’t take on work for now and may delay him."
"Mr. Lockwood won’t blame you. He also hopes for your speedy recovery."
Shannon Quinn said a few more words, then turned and left.
Once Shannon Quinn was gone, Claire Yardley asked Lynn Kendall, "What did she come for?"
Lynn Kendall’s grateful expression quickly turned to disdain as she glanced at the flowers Shannon Quinn had bought and said, "It’s just crocodile tears, wanting to laugh at my misfortune."
"That woman really has a lot going on in her mind!"
"By the way, do you know Caleb Grant?"
"Caleb Grant? Yes, he’s quite close to Landon Sutton. I’ve seen them drinking together several times."
Lynn Kendall pondered for a moment and said, "It was Caleb Grant who intervened this time. That guy is already out!"
"Caleb Grant? They have connections with Caleb Grant too?"
"Who knows? They just rely on that little bit of power to bully me like this."
Claire Yardley looked in the direction Shannon Quinn had left and said, "I don’t think so. Didn’t you say Sheila Yardley and that woman have a good relationship? Don’t forget, Shannon Quinn is the Young Madam of the Rhodes Family. With that status, she can do whatever she pleases. She might be nice to you on the surface, but behind your back, she could be the one smoothing things over. Don’t underestimate this woman; she’s no simpleton."
Lynn Kendall paused, her eyes rolling as if plotting something.
Lynn Kendall always felt her skills were no worse, perhaps even better than Shannon Quinn’s, yet she wasn’t doing as well in the company.
On the surface, they treated each other as good sisters, but deep down, she envied Shannon Quinn. Just as well, Claire Yardley also didn’t like Shannon Quinn, so could she use Claire Yardley to deal with Shannon Quinn?
Use someone else’s hand to kill without getting herself dirty in the process.
This Claire Yardley had more bluster than brains, unlike her clever sister, making her easy to manipulate.
So Lynn Kendall just pitifully said, "But what can I do about her? I don’t dare to mess with her."
Claire Yardley smiled and said, "I do have a plan."
"What is it?"
"She’s only arrogant because of her status as the Young Madam of the Rhodes Family. If she gets kicked out of the Rhodes Family, she’ll be nothing. Dealing with her would then be a piece of cake."
Lynn Kendall pressed, "Mona, what’s your plan?"
"You’ll find out soon enough."
Lynn Kendall didn’t know what good idea Claire Yardley’s brain could come up with, but as long as it was against Shannon Quinn, it was welcome for her.
After all, it’s Claire Yardley’s doing, so even if there’s responsibility to bear in the future, it wouldn’t fall on her.
With Shannon Quinn, there’s no need to tear things up; whatever happens is in her favor.
"Mona, you’re the best to me."
"I’m just helping myself. I’ve long found that woman an eyesore. I suspect she’s been involved with Landon Sutton for a while now, or else we would’ve been together by now. With a shameless woman like her, if we don’t teach her a lesson, she’ll never know her limits!"
"You be careful too, don’t get yourself into trouble."
"My sister was always cautious about everything, but in the end, wasn’t she bitten by that woman? She always said I act impulsively, but in all her calculations, didn’t she end up trapped herself? She has no hope of marrying into the Rhodes Family now, yet Shannon Quinn is still securely the Young Madam. I don’t know how she can swallow that."
"Sometimes there’s nothing you can do. Her status is simply higher than ours, so no matter how frustrated you are, you can only bottle it up."
Claire Yardley chuckled proudly, "She’ll soon know what it’s like to fall from grace."
