My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 160: June Yardley Is Stirring Up Trouble Again
CHAPTER 160: CHAPTER 160: JUNE YARDLEY IS STIRRING UP TROUBLE AGAIN
"These are all Vincent’s arrangements. He has always felt like he owes you and the child, and maybe doing this will make him feel a bit better."
Shannon Quinn lowered her eyes in thought. The child was indeed Vincent Rhodes’, and giving child support after the divorce was only reasonable. However, the amount was quite large.
She paused and said, "I don’t want the house, and let’s change the support to ten thousand a month."
"Keep the house. You and the child will need a place to settle down in the future. Or, if you don’t like this place, you can choose another one."
Shannon Quinn shook her head, "Just the support will be fine. I’ll handle the rest myself."
Simon Rhodes looked at Shannon Quinn and sighed softly, "I think I might understand why Vincent likes you so much."
If it were someone else, they would probably want more money, but such a person might not choose to divorce in the first place.
The fact that Shannon Quinn could make the decision to divorce showed that she didn’t care about the Rhodes Family’s wealth or power.
This is something many women can’t achieve.
Since she married into the Rhodes Family, she has always kept a low profile, never asking the family for money, nor using her status and connections for personal gain.
"Take some time to rest and think it over. If you change your mind by then, just consider the divorce matter unmentioned."
Shannon Quinn simply nodded and didn’t say more, but she was determined about the divorce.
In the evening, the night wind was chilling.
Erin Bishop came to the hospital right after work, bringing Shannon Quinn some snacks and juicy gossip.
As soon as she sat down, Erin Bishop couldn’t wait to ask Shannon Quinn, "Shannon, did you see today’s news?"
Shannon Quinn shook her head, "No, why?"
Slightly uneasy, she worried if something about her had been dug up.
"That June Yardley is causing trouble again! She and Seth Fairchild announced their engagement today!"
"Seth Fairchild?"
"Yes, I didn’t know much about Seth Fairchild’s background at first, but I saw on the news today that he’s quite influential. You probably know, right? The Fairchild Family and the Rhodes Family are sort of in-laws, right?"
Shannon Quinn nodded. She hadn’t understood before, but she learned about these things the last time she talked to Sean Fairchild.
She just couldn’t understand, "How did June Yardley get engaged to Seth Fairchild?"
"Yeah, I’m puzzled too, but I think it’s likely a relationship of convenience. Wasn’t June Yardley close with Simon Rhodes before? Now that she’s gone bankrupt because of the Rhodes Family, she might be leveraging the connection between the Fairchild and Rhodes Families to latch onto the Fairchilds."
"Seth Fairchild oblivious to these things?"
"Maybe you don’t know, but I’ve heard about Seth Fairchild before. He’s the illegitimate child of the Fairchild Family, not well-liked there. His personality is quite extreme, appearing nonchalant about everything, but he’s actually very shrewd and sly, concealing his true intentions."
Shannon Quinn paused, puzzled, "Then what does June Yardley gain from being with him?"
"I’m not sure, but their engagement is surely not for love. Seth Fairchild should have better taste than that. Maybe it’s a mutual partnership, and I’m wondering if they plan to cause trouble for the Rhodes Family. Although Seth Fairchild is an illegitimate child, Elder Fairchild dotes on him. The Fairchilds may be renowned in opera, but they have a number of industries under their name, mostly managed by Seth. If June Yardley meddles, the Rhodes Family might not suffer terribly, but it would still be troublesome."
"It’s not something I can control, plus I’m going to divorce soon."
Erin Bishop momentarily paused, taking a moment to process. She looked at Shannon Quinn incredulously and repeated, "You and Vincent Rhodes are getting a divorce?"
"Yes."
"Erin Bishop was a bit surprised and glanced at Shannon Quinn’s belly, seemingly understanding her intentions. "Did you propose the divorce? Did he agree?"
"He agreed."
"What about the child?"
"I’ll take care of it myself."
Erin Bishop paused, sighed in relief, and said, "That’s good. It’s reassuring to have the child with you, and don’t worry, I’ll help you with the child—I’ll even be the godmother!"
Erin Bishop had another engagement in the evening, leaving the hospital just after seven.
Shannon Quinn lay sideways on the bed, looking out at the night, and in the darkness, the path ahead appeared clear to her.
"Shannon." Sheila Yardley’s voice called softly from the door.
Shannon Quinn collected her thoughts, turned her head to see Sheila Yardley standing by the hospital doorway, and smiled. When she noticed Ryder Griffin standing beside Sheila, Shannon’s expression tensed a little, but she didn’t say anything.
Seeing Sheila Yardley holding Ryder Griffin’s arm, their relationship seemed unchanged. Maybe Sheila hadn’t yet discovered what was between Ryder and Lynn Kendall, but Shannon hoped it was just Ryder finding his way back.
"I thought you were asleep. I bought some fruits."
"The ones from last time aren’t finished yet."
"These are from Ryder’s colleague’s family farm. They taste better than store-bought."
"How’s your mom doing lately?"
Talking about Catherine Yardley, Sheila’s smile faded a bit, and she sighed lightly, "The same as before."
Sheila glanced at Ryder, seemingly not wanting to worry him, and didn’t elaborate on Catherine’s condition.
Shannon noticed that while talking to her, Ryder kept checking his phone frequently.
It wasn’t her first time meeting Ryder, and in her impression, he wasn’t someone who constantly fiddled with his phone in front of others. Plus, he had it on silent mode while standing behind Sheila, so no sound came from the phone. Sheila probably hadn’t realized who he was in close contact with.
"Sheila, Ryder, you two have been together for quite some time, right? Any plans on getting married?" Shannon shifted the topic to Ryder, noticing he visibly stiffened, subtly put down his phone, and a fleeting hint of guilt flashed in his eyes.
Sheila turned to look at Ryder, smiling bashfully, "Not so soon. I need to wait until I graduate to think about these things, plus I can’t get a marriage certificate yet."
"You could hold an engagement party first."
Sheila glanced at Ryder again, as if seeking his opinion.
It was evident that Sheila was quite eager for an engagement party, as it seemed to deepen their relationship as a couple.
However, seeing that Ryder didn’t respond, Sheila said, "We’re not planning anything like that now. I have a lot going on, and he’s busy with work too. Besides, an engagement is just a formality. I’m not that particular about it."
